That is a serious machine and spec. Low-key, all-weather high performance cruiser with all the bells and whistles.

I actually like the colour and chrome trim, it's the M-Performance skirts I'm not a fan of, they clash with the rest of the trim imo.

Wonder if it was a press or demo car, would a private buyer really add all that spec?

Sound system is a ~7k upgrade. I have only seen the seats in the US and Germany too - air conditioned.

Also noticed the adaptive dampening or whatever you call it.

I agree that the German manufacturers won’t come up with anything as quick to accelerate for the same money.
However leaving aside the range deterioration in windy cold weather as well as if you exploit its speed, I couldn’t spend that amount of money and put up with the niggles that are widely reported.
Dodgy panel gaps and bad paint quality, poor wipers, poorly working headlight assist, excessive road noise and now I’m reading you can’t even change a tyre if you get a puncture!
These things would drive me insane on a day to day basis regardless of how quickly the car accelerated. It seems however loads of the electric enthusiasts can overlook these issues.
    I don’t think I have OCD but I couldn’t.
I think the German cars will not compete directly with the model 3 on performance but may be more complete as a premium product.
It will be interesting in the next few years.

I'm getting my deposit back, clocked up 1600km this week headache free. Couldn't be bothered with all that charging malarkey along with everything you mentioned.

Very nice colour. I don’t know anything about the dealer. I still think the 640d gc is a great BMW. Still look very fresh and loads of equipment generally.
You canceled your Tesla order? What had you ordered? Also have they put up the prices of the model 3? I speccedup a performance with metallic and white interior and it was almost 70k after grants. I’m sure it was closer to 60k when I looked a couple of months ago.

Its currently grey with grey wheels, was black with the white interior. The price has dropped again today I think but had went up, it hard to keep track of. Deposit is down from 2 to 1k. Didn't apply to get it back probably will later tonight.

Hadn't considered the 6 series, was looking at a6 bdtdi's 320bhp but seemed a little thirsty in reviews, I know I don't want another 5 series, milage is going to be fairly high for 2020 so I reckon something like this might fit the bill, seems like a proper performance car and economical.
I know nothing about the 6 series though, I know an LCI model came in 2015 but not sure that one is.

It doesn't have the later type sat nav screen anyway.

So it's that kinda dull BMW one not a new style crisp picture. Does that mean the nav isn't great either, found the maps terrible on my last one but I had the latest maps.

I'd have that 7 over a 640d. I used to love the 6 series but a little long in the tooth now imo.

I still love the 6GC think it's still a gorgeous looking motor.

Agree, think the GC is one of those designs that will look great when it’s older too

My thoughts exactly. Not sure when my mindset changed, likely around the time the G11 came out in 2016, but I feel the 6 dated very soon after. I used to think it was the most stylish car out there! The centre stack and rear end especially look dated I feel. Still a great looking car, but something akin to how the 2008ish Quattroportes are still great looking cars, but dated. Considering how much the 6 still is, i'd be looking to spend the same money elsewhere.

I’ve a 1 series coming up but that’s it for the moment.

Any sign of that baby m coming?, got to see one in the flesh today, wasn't a fan until I met it in person, don't think there's any picture does it justice.

The one I'm waiting on isn't an M anyway, just an M-Sport.

Request in for a 330e too but they don't have one yet.

Noticed this the other day, maybe it's strong money for a soon to be 12 year old car. It looks a lot less rough and ready than my own for the odd week that I'm in my own car and will always be a bit more desirable in terms of a future buyer. I've probably driven my own car for 8 weeks this year though so maybe I'd be mad to have it sitting up, not even in my sight.

It looks like the version of m sport you get before m sport is available, so an aero pack.

if you got the chrome wrapped in matt black itll look the same as an msport for all intents and purposes.

I would say it is an M Sport but has been optioned with the brushed aluminium trim instead of shadowline. This was common enough on F10s aswell.

Decided to trade in wife’s car a 2016 X5 next year. She wants similar in 2019 on.
Basically a seven seater Jeep. Looking at new Model x5, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 , Land Rover discovery. Anybody any experience of any of these good or bad or any to avoid.
Anything else we should look at?

Finally have deposit on 530e in UK.
Late 18 msport plus. sapphire black with 20 inch wheels and reversing camera from main dealer.
Now to get over to view it and hopefully get it over here quickly.
Wondering what currency company to use. I would need to have money lodged with currency company and just need a phone call to release it to dealer when over there.
    Any advice?

Thanks bazz. The gle is 7 seats alright Might look at this too. Local Mercedes dealer isn’t the best though which puts me off.

Personally I'd avoid the landrover. Nice looking and all that but atrocious reliability issues, even on the latest versions. The Volvo has probably the best bang for buck out of the rest and is massive. Lovely interior in the right colour spec. I'm guessing for economy reasons etc it will be a 2 litre diesel?

GLC is available as a 7 seater too apparently but more X3 in size.

Does it have to be diesel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,835 ✭✭✭carsfan2

The land rover wouldn’t really be high up the list due to reliability reputation as well as sheer size and economy. Also 1200 a year to tax.
The bmw and Audi are three litre six cylinder engines only which I would like but wife finds irrelevant. Economy apparently isn’t any different as the two litre engines have to work harder. I have driven the bmw and The x5 is a lovely drive, but not as space efficient as Volvo or Audi which is important as three teenagers plus their buddies/ team mates travel regularly in the car. Current X5 gets lots of complaints for the cramped conditions in the third row and the new x5 isn’t any improvement.

If mileage isn't huge or diesel a requirement then maybe a left field alternative might be the Lexus RX L hybrid? Would trump all the others on reliability which might go some way to offset the higher running costs over a diesel, would really depend on your mileage though.

You’ll be offered an insult if a price on the x5 trade in

How about Tesla model x ?

Do about 35k km a year lot of it cross country roads so really diesel is best option. Hate the look of the Lexus and it’s third row is poor apparently.
Not really willing to go the electric car route either.
I looked at Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia sorrento last week and they feel very cheap inside despite being close to 60k in top spec.
Tiguan Allspace is nice but very tight in the third row.
