Must be the first time Ronaldo isn't in the top 3 in a decade ?

And deservedly so, IMO. There has been 3 better players than him in 2019.

Surprised to see Bernado Silva not make the top 10 myself, and Mane should be ahead of Salah, based on 2019 too I reckon.

He's good but it was more for his age that he got the plaudits. No chance any defender out performed VVD.

I believe I'm entitled to my own opinion and my opinion is De Ligt was easily the best defender in the world this year.

Interesting to see how much that opinion would change had VVD been playing for United and had the same performance :pac:

VVD's big issue was how he seemed to get the rest of the defence playing. We just stopped conceding goals last year from anywhere. We've modified that this year to only conceding very few in each game.

I'm sorry I don't deal in hypotheticals, van dijk doesn't play for Manchester United.

Or if he's actually seen De Ligt for Juve as he's had a few bumps along that road so far.
I'm stunned Salah got nearly twice the amount of points as Mane.

Took them on his back and was unlucky not to win a Treble with Barca.

Ronaldo unlucky again I'd say. Third country he's win a league title in, was that leagues outstanding player. Got Portugal over the line in the nation's league.

If be disappointed for de lift, easily the best defender on show this year, and v transitioned well into Italian football.

Van dijk probably deserved second but personally I'd have those three ahead of him.

I'm not sure which part to disagree with most, as there is about 3 different things! :pac:

De Ligt has been getting pelters this year from the Juve fans I follow on twitter. They say he has been at fault for a number of goals conceded this season, including one again at the weekend. He is meant to be having a really tough time adjusting. Just look at this for example. it's been a trend from what I can gather. https://twitter.com/PremierSportsTV/status/1201118094825021440

3 players outscored Ronaldo in Serie A last season too, including 36 year old Quagliarella, playing for Sampdoria who finished 9th so a much more difficult task. There is a stat going around currently that this season, Ronaldo has 4 non penalty goals & 1 assist in 16 starts. Low numbers, especially for him.

Ronaldo is still a clutch player and some man to get the big moment goals but to suggest that he had a better 2019 is a big reach. Don't be fooled by multiple hattricks against Lithuania.

Awful stink of bitter lemons in here today, bet those complaining would have no problem with it if it was they're own club, and anyone saying they wouldn't are flat out liars and deluding no one.

When one is unable to have an intelligent debate or argument they resort to insults.

Really surprised at this now that be fair, it's not the way I thought it would go at all...... Wonder who leaked it? Well deserved by Messi eitherway he carried a misfiring team yet again.

So the way I read this is that French journalists have decided that when Kylian Mbappe joins Liverpool he will be their 5th best player :p

    1) If you think Boomer is an insult I have some bad news for you

    2) If you think it's possible to have an intelligent debate or argument with somebody who is a hypocrite within a few days. I also have some bad news for you.

What did Hazard do to warrant being ahead of Sterling/Silva?

What did Hazard do to warrant being ahead of Sterling/Silva?

In fairness his last season with Chelsea was pretty standout.
And he got them back into the CL near single handedly.

Did you ever think, why is this guy my manager, he's an eejit?

It's all about being in the right place at the right time. Talk the talk. etc

Got EL player of the year :pac:

Not sure how he got that since he contributed very little to the campaign.

Join Real Madrid....sorry, I meant win the Europa League(even if he only played like 4 matches).
In fairness to Bernardo Silva and Sterling the league they won was actually competitive with a title race unlike Barca, PSG or Juve winning leagues nearly by default.

1)It's worse than an insult, it's just childish. I was being kind to you.

2)At least try and wow us with your knowledge.

Player awards are subjective and everyone is entitled to their opinion but around here if the opinion is different a certain few get quite upset about it.

I do think it's shocking how City players aren't talked about more highly in these conversations.

Probably suits them over the years though as the likes of Aguero, David Silva, Sterling, Bernardo, Kompany have never been talked about as serious targets for Real Madrid and Barcelona despite being among the best around in their position at points of their careers.

Don't forget that he got his picture on the cover of FIFA 20 too, that has to count for something.:)

They absolutely are subjective and he is entitled to it. Nobody is getting upset, I asked a question and he responded with nonsense so in response I posted something at his level.

By all means think De Ligt was better but if poster is going to say ' I don't deal with hypoteticals, but what he meant to say was '' I don't deal in hypoteticals where it will say something positive about Liverpool' If you want to talk about childishness address that moreso.

Also I'm not sure why we're even having this discussion. It's 3rd party stuff.

In response to the Hazard post - Good call, forgot he won the EL

No he didn't. They qualified through EL and Hazard only started in 4 of those games. He scored two goals in the final alright but Chelsea were already winning at that stage.

Giroud was Chelsea best player in the EL last year.

That's my point before you jump down my neck!
Claiming because they were already winning 2-1 in a final doesn't necessarily mean anything. Subjective.
He carved Arsenal open in the final and put the game to bed.
And he scored 20+ goals and near the same assists in the PL the same season.

It's not outlandish to suggest why he finished where he did in the table indicated in this thread.

The mark against Man City is Europe. They've made a semi final once (with no real form as they played Real Madrid who had Ronaldo & Bale really struggling with injuries at the time) and have kinda made a pigs ear of it the last few years.
As for Real or Barca not being in for players they know City never need to sell & can probably out pay them too if required. Sterling has been linked to Real but unless it's a bosman that won't happen. For the fee City would want Real would rather get Mbappe.

How do you negotiate with someone who has no real concept of money other than "I have lots of it"?

He scored two goals and had one assist in the final and had one assist in the semi. He started four games and had four sub appearances, averaging 30mins over the course of the EL campaign.

Giroud on the other hand had 11 goals and 5 assists in the competition.
