@offtopic :ideally , when a can is 1.99 and there's an offer 24 cans for 20 euro, the till software 'knows' you have a qualifying item for an ongoing promotion and applies the discount on the spot.
If you bring 24 individual cans on top of a slab carton ( 24 singles or 4x6pack with the flimsy neck plastic ring) the till person could be tempted to drag the carton ( with the cans) across the glass-scanning area : maybe you get lucky and it scans first the vertical sensor, catching the barcode from the can; maybe it scans the slab barcode , at a different price ; the person at the till doesn't care...( apologies for the long text )

@ontopic : any good deals on dunnestores? i got some 10 off 40e in the post from them , and wanna use it

Definitely cut & paste that post into an email and fire it off to Tesco customer service. They'll send you a gift card for the inconvenience.

Definitely do this. I emailed tesco before about the "4 for €10" constantly not working and having to walk the cashier down and show her each individual beer and the offer beside it.
They sent me a gift card with €15 on it!!

Anywhere with any decent deals on gin?

Re: the Dunnes wine deal, based on the ad in today's Independent, it is valid until 12th October and applies to ANY 6 bottles of wine or champagne.
It seems to be instead of the usual 25% back in points or 5% off any 6 bottles.

Third it and also the FireTree Nero d’Avola

Their Cotes du Rhones Villages is exceptional value at 6.99. Overall, any of their 7 euro + wines are decent and represent good quality for price point

    Excellent price for powers.
Anyone tried the new Irish whiskey in Aldi?
    Is it nicer than Clontaraf?

Its made by West Cork Distillers so I'd approach with caution... their own produced liquers (before the stock was old enough to be sold as whiskey) were disgustingly awful.

The full price West Cork whiskey gets consistently bad reviews on here, I wouldn't touch it.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

When they get this in it always sells out quickly. €9.99 - lovely red.

    Grande Alberone Zinfandel

I would stick to the Clontarf, I picked up a bottle of the Ardfallen and after trying a glass im reluctant to go back for a second. I hoping it will be ok for a hot whiskey as its the only way I can see myself getting through it.

Any of the Riojas tend to be reliable. One thing though- the idea of a 'nice' bottle of wine is subjective. Different wines have different attributes- some have high tannins and very oaky tastes (for example) whereas others might be fruitier and/or quite high in sulphites. If you can narrow it down a bit better- detailing what you actually like in a wine- we might be able to give you better suggestions.

I used it for steeping 18 month old Christmas puddings in- bad mistake, think I'll have to toss them.

West Cork 10 is a Cooley product (I think, it tastes like one) and isn't as bad as their own liquers were; but isn't worth its price tag either.

You buying it for cooking and the odd Irish coffee or to drink neat?

If it’s the former work away with powers but if it’s the latter I’d be saving an extra tenner at least and get a bottle of something a lot less harsh in an O’Briens sale.

Dunnes have 24 bud/guinness and Jameson 700 ml at 2 for 50 euro (mix and match). If U have a 10 off 50 voucher makes it 2 for 40. Did not notice an end date.

They've gone very sneaky of late. They don't even tell the managers when the offers finish. Head office just tells them to stop :(

Hi thanks for replying, I don’t drink wine myself so don’t know what’s good. I was buying for friends. I went with the Toro ones from Aldi, thanks anyway.

They may not ! There is now a 10 euro off any 6 bottles. Up to about 6.50 a bottle , it is equivalent to 25% back. After that it aint!

    With the points back 25% and 20% off (10 off 50 voucher), a 10 euro wine cost 5.50. In the new system, it costs 6.70 (6@10= 60 less 10 =50(less 20% of that 50) = 40 for 6).

    A 15 euro wine cost 8.30(15 less 25% +20%) , under the new offer it costs 10.67.

I will be surprised and pleased if it reappears!

Dunnes doing the mix up deal again 1 litre vodka etc and slabs for €50 so 2 slabs or slab and vodka for example for €50 and use a €10 voucher it's only €40

Such a pity Tesco doesn't have a broader collection.
