Its an SE Ultra Tecknik alright. Just haven't seen many like it. Compliments the grey well in the flesh anyway, sticks out a bit over the more common black

You can buy those slats from Audi I think they are eighty euros.

    Update on my 520d breakdown.

Stretched chain it is then. Car had full BMW history up until last year but BMW say they won’t cover it as the chain hasn’t snapped. They said if chain had snapped they most likely would have at least contributed towards it. Weighing up the costs of a repair now before deciding what to do with it.

Drive it, snap the chain and throw it in to BMWs showroom through glass wall!
You did a a smart thing, and prevented more damage and they just go: *shrug* Do more damage?

I'd imagine it could actually be cheaper to have the stretched chain replaced now at your own cost by an independant garage than what it will cost you from a main dealer even with the contribution from BMW. BMW would most likely only cover the cost of the parts and you would need to pay the labour rate of the job which at a main dealer will be quite substantial. I think it's costing around €1200 these days to replace the chain by an indy garage.

I agree Bazz so it’s with a trusted BMW mechanic I know and I gave the go ahead for repair. He needs to check if there is valve damage which could potentially add to the cost.

What's the mileage on it and was the chain ever done before ?

196k km. Chain not done before. Had it inspected by BMW August last year and got the all clear so I stupidly assumed I’d get longer out of it.

Hearing this **** first hand is really putting me off looking at anything with an N47 engine now. If Brexit is extended again I might just hold out and bring in a 3.0L and pay the extra in vrt.

This annoys me. Just because you didn't make sh!t of your engine BMW don't want to know about it? That is fooken stupidity of the highest order if you ask me.

Your last point I totally agree with.

Looks like BMW are rewarding Jane who knew something wasn't right with her car but kept driving on.

While Mikey who pulled in immediately and stopped using the car gets penalised for being cautious.

But you don't agree that CIP4 should buy something without wipers given the fact that the wiper is jumping across the windscreen?

Shame on you old diesel :pac:

Anyone know how to go about fixing the sound/speakers in a 3 year old Golf? When I hooked up my bluetooth to the car today and played spotify, the sound was brutal. Crackly, distorted, bass sounded terrible etc. I put on the regular radio and the same problem there aswell. Changed up the bass mid and treble settings to see if they would help but still same problem. Music is not crisp and clear like usual. Any advice how to sort this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,397 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

Move the fader fully forward and balance fully left. If problem is not there your front left speaker is good. Move balancr to right and check front right, then move fader to rear and repeat. If you can isolate a single speaker then likely a bad connection in there behind the speaker. If it's the same from all 4 maybe the amp or head unit has an issue.

Thank you. Would it then be best to bring it to the dealer I bought it from or a general mechanic to fix?

I would give it a go myself. If it's under warranty drop it to dealer.

I've finally ended up owning a bmw.

I got an e39 520. Only had it a few hours but loving the comfort already.

Now to learn all the quirks and what all the buttons do. 😂

If that's the 2.2 6 cylinder in m sport spec you've got a lovely machine there.
