George Lee has gotten great mileage out of this, all the same.

Think it has destroyed his credibility.

High winds in West Mayo since about 7 pm today,
Gusts severe enough to knock people
    Aran island ferry cancelled
    Fishing boats sheltering at Killlybegs
Thanks to the Met office for forecasting this
It may have been quieter elsewhere but imho RTE were correct to inform us

Absolutely spot on. We are in a very changebable location for weather. Just as easy the storm could have swung over the country.

It's pretty wild here in West Galway now... definitely alot worse than your standard windy night.

Starting to pick up in Limerick in the last hour...still can't believe shops were closed early today in anticipation of the "storm"

They were dead right. You have plenty of time to pick up new shoes / set of headphones / pint of milk.
AFAIR people got stranded and one got killed the last time around due to their businesses being opened despite weather warnings.
If they get it slightly wrong sometimes then so what. There's more to life than shopping.

Barely enough wind to dry some clothes and no rain. Place is dry. Kinvara Co. Galway.

    I hotburgerly agree.

Hmm.. Hotburger.. Not a bad name for a hurricane that....

List of the next 8 hurricane names....

    Melissa
    Nestor
    Olga
    Pablo
    Rebekah
    Sebastien
    Tanya
    Van

Apparently the names that are not used get put away until 2025. No idea why but all I know is there will be a whole lot of ****e memes knocking around the Internet when hurricane van kicks into gear 🙄

If you didn't buy in to the drama of the build up on this forum?

If you ignored all the crap on social media?

If you laughed at the so called mainstream media over hyping it?

If you actually followed the ME forecasts (as in read them)?

Your day both work and social was not affected anywhere in the country.

ME did feck all wrong. The media and some weather enthusiasts added fuel to a fire that sheep like people embraced.

Grandeeod ; THANK YOU! The nimbyism and illiteracy in these pages....frustrated thrill seekers..They need a real disaster to remind them ..

Lorenzo raging out here.. alive and well he is.

That is reality. A gale that means we cannot risk opening doors. There is some minor structural damage now. and of course we are cut off.

All is well .. weather is to be respected. As is met.ie . They were totally correct.

Does not seem to be easing at all yet? Sudden severe gusts.

A neighbour emailed and we are hoping for the shopping trip today.

One poster told me off as apparently we do not count as we are " extreme"..

    Ah well!

Stay safe out there.. as we are out here. All is well. we were forewarned and thus safe. And had the storm missed us we would have been heartily relieved and thankful .

Something just changed out here; increasingly savage gale. Dwelling shaking. Has it changed direction? Gusting dangerously.

Something just hit the roof or came apart!

Hi Grace, I'm in east Mayo at the moment, Ballyhaunis direction, and strangely, just when I saw your message, the wind became noticeable for the first time today. It seems to be getting a little violent now but nothing to worry about here.

    Keep safe.

Thanks, I added to my post; maybe Lorenzo passing nearer on his way out? Around the right time for that and spot on forecasting again.

Just forbade the cat to go out!

Holy Moly....was woken up by ferocious gusts of wind 15 minutes ago in Sth Galway.... it is pretty bad out there and I can only imagine what it’s like on any islands off the West Coast. Thanks to all the weather regulars for some great info on these boards over the last few days concerning this storm. It is most certainly NOT a “ non- event”. Will be interested to see what wind speeds were recorded over the last hour or so!

I can confirm that Storm Lorenzo has definitely arrived in Sth Galway. Was woken up by ferocious gusts of wind around 4am... it is pretty bad outside for the last 30 mins and I can only imagine what it’s like on any islands off the West Coast. Thanks to all the weather regulars for some great info on these boards over the last few days concerning this storm. It is most certainly NOT a “ non- event” although I thought a few hours ago, that the worst of it would miss us.Will be interested to see what wind speeds were recorded over the last hour or so!

Still very active here in Galway, not so much big gusts but more long sustained periods of strong wind, hopefully there are no trees or branches down on my route to work.

Pretty big event here in west Mayo. Raging out there, there will be plenty of damage done I reckon.
