Most worrying thing is who will take them seriously next time.

I think that’s it nail on the head, they’ve invested so much in it that by backing down and saying actually there’s nothing to worry about folks after whipping up the country into a frenzy is not a good look and is serious egg on their face.

Gerry Murphy did a bit of backtracking on the 9:00 news. Basically admitted that outside of the 5 Orange warning counties - its pretty much a regular breezy autumn night.

He looked quite uncomfortable saying it.

Dee Forbes, have a look at all those reporters, news crews, camera men etc sent out tonight around the country to report a non event.
How many hotel roomts are booked now tonight by Rte to put them all up?
And she's asking us for more money for their debts.

The cynic in me said they were hoping for a major event to match their major coverage... cue demand for licence fee increase because the public relied on rte for news during a crisis.

Kite surfer having to be rescued on Wexford coast and people swimming in the sea in Galway after all the warnings???

Darwinism. We should really leave these fcukers there and not risk anyone elses lives

So forget about reporting real news.
    That makes sense.

Tv presenters and media are seriously stupid why cant they just listen to what they are saying...they are so stupid he just couldnt be bothered to even correct her anymore...he should have just slapped her:mad:;)

Just watched that RTE Primetime. What rubbish and what a waste of public money. The cynic in me says that the hype about this storm is to soften the blow for a 5c-10c hike in carbon taxes on road fuel next Tuesday - sure Miriam even announced that their next big show is to discuss the budget.

Is it actually going to cross Ireland from West to East or just piss off towards Greenland?!

Are/when are we expecting the worst winds to hit the Dublin area?

    Storm, what Storm.
Seems every time it's breezy out the whole of Ireland has a hissy fit.

What has this to do with technical discussion? There’s a chat thread for this!

Starting to get windy here in Galway. Gusts probably not far off 90kph, and will probably hit 120kph at 2/3am.

    Gusting 90?

Jaysus I take you are a lot closer to Mace Head than Ballinasloe!

Low 30s here in E. Clare and gusting 50.

Reporting real news is reporting things that have actually happened, not reporting things that you expected to happen, but didn't.

Calmest night ever, I would have expected even a light breeze.

It's going to move over our north coast and then just die out completely.

I remember back around the time of Ophelia, we weren't affected in Mayo, but a couple of weeks after it, we had the worst storm, huge trees blowing like flags, even by my standards it was very scary....and not a pip from the national media about it that evening.

Calm here on the north coast at minute and no wind forecast until 7 in the morning and then nothing severe looking. Lorenzo might of got lost.

Met Eireann has done nothing wrong, they only issued an yellow advisory for most the country. The orange warnings just for coastal areas that may have had the potential for stronger gusts.

Its the media that has over hyped this event up and people loosing the run of themselves because they heard the words hurricane and Ireland together.

Sorry but the yellow warning was absolutely not required in most of the country. If it was, there'd be 30 or 40 yellow warnings a year.

He wasnt backtracking. He said the same in the 6 news and met eireann have been consistent in saying this would be a west coast event for a few days now. RTE's desperation to hype things up is to blame, not met eireann.

Cork was included originally. There has been no justification for an orange warning in Clare, Limerick or Kerry that I have seen or heard of.

The coastal surges were nothing out of the ordinary.

This this this ..... it’s part of a bigtime push by Rte, they are even doing a bunch of climate programs right around budget time.

They should have downgraded Limerick to yellow at a minimum. Also Clare and Kerry, although they may all have scraped the requirements for an orange.

Guys I'm confused. Everyone is joking about how weak the storm is. But is it not due to hit full strength after midnight?
I do think RTÉs performance in particular is ridiculous but I still think there's plenty to come from this storm.
The only thing that annoys me is its a relatively standard bad winter storm for the west coast but to justify the nonsense RTÉ will focus on any small bit of damage done tomorrow and hype it up. They are in to deep now. No going back. Storm Special, the prime time guy deployed.

Totally agree. Note how they (RTE) cancelled their reporter who was here in Donegal after the 6 news. Its so calm up here tonight it's laughable what they are doing.
