There is no mate p30 pro, and the Mate 30 or 30 pro may well not be launched in Europe if the Google situation doesn't change.

Presume you mean the mate 30 pro. I don't think they are being launched in Europe and they definitely won't have google services even if they are. There is some reports around of people sideloading but seems buggy and generally far too much hassle. Best bet is get the p30 pro or else some other brand entirely

Actually Google play services can be installed using one app, so the process seems rather simple and not complicated. Can't say first hand, but XDA Devs can't be too far wrong!

I'm a P user, so I'm looking to see how things are in Feb/Mar, and the launch of the P40. If the same situation still pertains, I'll still seriously consider it, if there's a work around.

I'm itching to try a 5G phone from Huawei, and by then 5g may be an option from more networks.

Great camera and fast and will get android 10 by all accounts
All the new phones look great but I'll stick with what I have

Will be also seeing how the ban pans out with the P40 next year, I would still consider it with out Google services most important things for me is camera and battery life.

Then go with another phone. Rather than support a brutal and authoritarian regime. Cannot understand why people would buy this stuff.

Chinese people deserve to have jobs and make a living. They are amazing people with amazing culture. Its the authoritarian government and SOE's that need a shakeup.

Cannot deny the CCP are at best are adverse to our Democratic societies and freedom of expression. If they have those laws in China they can enforce them there. The issue is their repression is spreading to western companies and censoring of people outside of China... Money over lives is never good.

Hey does the p30 pro not display notification lights or am I doing something silly?
With WhatsApp I don't get notification light. I went into app launch and disabled battery saving for this. I don't like pop up of the text, only display banner but phone doesn't light up if I get a message or anything so unless I'm looking at it I have to unlock to see if I have any texts. Thanks in advance

There is no notification light I'm afraid. There is an always on display though that will indicate you have WhatsApp messages

And also there's an option to make the screen turn on for notifications so it's more noticeable if you don't hear it.

Thanks for both your replies. Didn't realise it didn't have the light. Don't know how ha.
I can only get the phone to light up when I allow whatsapp pop-up where you can read the full text. I prefer the banner so I'll probably just leave it as it is so.
    Thanks though!

My current P20 Pro has been good too.

Is the Google issue a factor?

i dunno....had mine now a couple of months - p30 pro....and very mixed feelings on it.

main positive i would say is battery life...really good.

but, coming from an s8+....and at a bit of expense to upgrade, what with new contract, cases, earphone adapters, etc...i sometimes, quite a lot of sometimes, find myself missing the old s8+

the s8+ didnt have battery life as good as this..but in other ways it felt superior......this screen on the p30 pro is amoled, but it feels like a cheap budget screen in comparison, just duller and less vibrant.
the s8+ always took a good photo for me....but me being easily influenced was very smitten by the youtube reviews of the p30 pro and especially the optical zoom, i had to have it....i find that in any poor light, or slightly low light, indoors for instance, the p30 pro takes a washed out photo...hard to explain..but faces will be dark and monochrome looking...anything with a light source behind it really throws exposure off in a way that it didnt with my s8+ (which took decent low light / indoors photos).

can never seem to get a good portrait photo on p30...my s8 with single camera did better....i try aperture mode mode too...always seem to have blocks around subject not blended correct.

i find the optical zoom only good on anything static...a building or such...anything moving like a dog and motion blur is an issue...i find just cropping a regular photo produces better results with anything moving.
there are times the p30 pro takes superb photos, but only in ideal conditions....i do use pro mode, but maybe in fairness i could use it better than i do.

i find typing on the p30 pro i often hit the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen in a way that never happened on my s8+, which i cant really figure out why that is, what i am doing different...same keyboard / settings too...gboard.

accidental touches to the side of the screen bug me sometimes too on the p30 pro, which never happened on the samsung.

i had to go through adb commands to disable 'power genie' as i couldnt figure a way of stopping screen dimming...developer options and transition effects to 0 helped somewhat but it still was there.

had issues with missing headphone jack, but that is no negative to the p30 pro as i knew it going in...tried bluetooth earphones, but none could match my wired ones in sound quality, and charging the things is a niggle...but i got usb adapters that work well so far.

anyway....it does have great battery life :) .....i must say on the camera, i think i found it better before the last .193 update...but maybe its only me thinking that.....emui 10 will be out next month, or whenever we get it here...that may make differences to photos, it'll have a new camera interface anyway so maybe other camera differences too.

oh..and, although i dont use it - only for novelty effect - the desktop mode is outstanding, what it can do wirelessly in that mode is astonishing.

thats my experience with it so far.

    relax with the 'ffs'

low light but not dark like night mode....like a dimly lit room but not dark enough to force it to brighten the photo like in a darker scenario.

    Ok I went for it.

Got the phone for a retention special €62 plus VAT. 2 year contract at €45 p/m + VAT, but as a reward for being a loyal customer that was reduced to €35 p/m + VAT.

Contract issued showing a 12 month term - sweet.

Oh and I sold my old but good P20 Pro to CEX for €160.

When you do the math the new phone will cost me €180 plus VAT, less the €160 :D

As far as I know, any Huawei phones in production or approved by Google before May 15th will continue to get updates.

This is why the mate X (folding phone) won't. It was announced around that date and had been given Google approval with the same chipset as the P30, but after revising it, not releasing it, and upgrading the Processor to the Kirin 990, it was deemed an all new model, and like the Mate 30, was canned for GMS.

    First time poster here.

I was going to buy the Huawei P30 Pro 4G 128GB 8GB RAM Dual-SIM black EU sim free but the €900 price (carphone warehouse) was putting me off a bit.

Found a retailer in Carlow (Rea Communications) selling it online for nearly €200 euro less. Anybody heard of them? Are they reliable? Don't understand such a price difference. Cant post a link yet but the spec is the same on both retailers websites

    Thanks in advance.
