I've stupid tiny veins so they never take blood from me. It's hard enough getting blood for testing and that's only a small syringe full. Not a whole pint.

Yay I just remembered I've to get bloods done tomorrow morning. Blech. I hope it's a nurse. I don't mind needles or blood etc but doctors are terrible at blood draws.

I had to go in for bloods years ago when I was very skinny and I kept passing out. After 3 times of them waking me, trying, me passing out, waking etc I BEGGED them just to take the blood while I was unconscious.

Still don't see why they wouldn't just have done that!

I used to work in research and people I shared a lab with were working on a bacteria called staphylococcus aureus - the same family as MRSA. About 10% of the population are carriers of staph and theIs lab were investigating the immune system of staph carriers. I’m a staph carrier so they wanted my blood to test and I kept passing out. I told them to just take it but they said they couldn’t because I was out cold. First do no harm etc.

I also donated skin - that was a fun day :pac:

I see this topic is not for me, ugh i mean obviously fair play to everyone who gives blood, the thought of it makes me ill.

I used to be fine with it untill, one day a nurse when the town on my arm taking blood, painfull enough for a while after and id a bruise from under the bicep to the middle forearm, i still wonder was she attempting to take the blood blind folded...

The nurse in a&e did this to me last year. I was in a&e with an ear infection and they needed to give me iv antibiotics and she butchered me.

This is a coincidence! I had bloods taken last week for my annual thyroid checkup. The nurse was freaking amazing. I couldn't even see the hole when it had stopped bleeding. There wasn't even a hint of a bruise. I've been butchered by enough nurses and doctors before to know an expert when I see one.

My husband fell and banged his head a few months back and had to go to a&e and the nurse in triage actually destroyed his arm trying to get the IV in. She tried 3 different sites before she finally got it in the vein and the bruise on his arm afterwards was spectacular.

When they can’t get blood from my arm they use the back of my hand. That’s fairly sore. Luckily I don’t have a fear of needles or blood. It’d be a bad combo: bad veins and the fear.

They can never find a vein in my arm so always have to go in through the hand. Even when I tell them they won’t get one on the arm they still try before eventually going to the hand. The next time I am just going to refuse them permission to try my arm.

Editing this because yep that sounds weird. But I think theres a link with fitness? Like my brother is ridiculously fit and when he gives blood its over in seconds. Meanwhile I used to be squeezing the little squeezing yoke for all I was worth like.. come on blood!! Come ooooonnn!
