The Samsung would probably be the best bet at this stage in most areas (just with an inferior camera) but get the S10+ if you're getting one of them so you've a decent battery.

So I can get a refund from Amazon on my Huawei Mate 20 (500 sterling) and get the pixel 3 XL for 599 pounds (64gb only though).

    Sell it to me?

I hear the camera is good. I like vanilla Android. But I can get the S10 128gb for 579... or keep the Huawei...(and already have case etc for that)

I can't speak for the Pixel 3 but I was a Samsung man from the S2 upto the S7 edge including numerous notes and edge plus and they all frustratingly slowed down and had to be sold on after 12 months, I also smashed three S7 Edges because of the curve you'll never get a case to protect it properly.
Enough was enough so I went for the Pixel XL and used it for almost 3 years with regular updates, no slow down and amazing camera with constantly updated camera software.
The only reason I didn't go for another Pixel last month was the price and also that I got an amazing deal on a Mi Mix 3 which I'm very happy with.
If I was in your boat with the money for a pixel 3 XL I'd definitely go for it.

I have a pixel 3xl since last year. I also picked up a 3a in the US last week, as Im based here for a few months. The experience is great - camera is best in class. Speed is great and the screen is great. The only downside for me is the notch. Interestingly i actually really enjoy the 3a. Its a lot smaller, but way lighter not being glass, experience in terms of speed etc is same as the 3/xl and its half the price.. pictures looks identical on both to 3xl and 3a to me.

I'm tempted to sell my 3xl in August and keep the 3a and maybe pick up a 4 but honestly im tempted to just stick with the 3a.. i think we've gotten carried away with specs in the last few years and they really aren't that important.. once you have a great camera, oled screen, and snappy UI experience thats all you need..

Finally bit the bullet and got my screen fixed. Was quoted £202 sterling and sending it to England for the 'official' repair and up to €250 in shops here. Eventually got it done for €160 in the Merrion Centre in Dublin for €160 and it's as good as new now.

Got a proper case this time around too, not relying on a MNML one again.

I'm due an upgrade on vodafone and I was going to for with a 3XL, but they are no longer listing the Pixel 3 or 3Xl only the 3a ans 3aXL. The google store is also not listing the 3XL. Just the Pixel 3. Have google stopped making the 3XL already?
The only other phone I was interested in was the huawei P30 Pro. But thats no longer a option got me withall that going on with huawei at the moment.

It might not be listed on the VF website but did you check any of their stores? They might still have stock left.

I did notice that they are seeing the 3 and 3 XL as ready to go phones. I might hold for for the 4 XL which would be due in 4 months

The 3 and 3 XL are back in stock on Vodafone. I'm going to wait for the 4 XL. Don't fancy paying 250 for the phone on a 60 p/m plan esp when a new model of being released soon

4 probably won't be available till early November if other years are an indication

Does anyone care to estimate when the 3 range might be due a price drop in anticipation for the 4 release?

Q Beta 5 is available now.

Much, much smoother than 4 so far. Few minor dark mode changes.

Thank you for the heads up.

I had pretty much decided that I was going to go for the Pixel 3 but now seeing that both it and the XL are reduced to the exact same price gives me some pause for thought.

Anyone with a pixel 3 or 3 XL on Vodafone tell me what the APN setting are in their phone?
    Thanks

Beta 6 is out today, main thing is nightsight in the swipe menu on the camera.

Just checked and Android 10 is available when I checked for an update.

    Just a heads up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,817 ✭✭✭AngryLips

Think I'll wait for all the other eejits to download it first and make sure it doesn't brick my phone

    Updated it there.

Dark theme is very nice!!! The change to the gestures will take a little getting used to, seems to be very smooth though so far.

My Pixel 3 and my old Pixel 1 both updated here. Can't say I'm a fan of dark mode or the new gestures so have disabled both.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,786 ✭✭✭youngblood

Really not sure what to make of this update

    1. I'm not really sure Dark Mode has made any difference to battery life
    2. While the new Android Auto seemed initially slick pre update, the hang up sounds, while ending a call seem a little cheap/tacky if that makes sense
    3. The top notification bar seems v busy
    4. The gestures also seem overly busy so were quickly turned off
    5. The privacy permissions are good but could see it becoming annoying if I have to continually allow/deny permissions- others will find this a god send
    6. Some apps have not yet updated but still are functioning which is a positive

    Anyone else found anything positive/fun?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,548 ✭✭✭✭Alun

My problem with the gestures is mainly with the left or right swipe. I have a case with a lip around the screen and it's a bit difficult getting your finger close enough to the edge to trigger it. A lot of times you end up swiping in the app instead, accidentally deleting mails in Gmail say, or replying to WhatsApp messages. It works pretty well as with the phone out of the case though.

Can't say I've noticed anything that makes me say wow, I really missed not having that though.

I really really miss the ability to slide along the pill on the bottom to very quickly go back and forth through the recent apps list, as opposed to now where it can only be done one at a time.

You can change it back in the settings.

That just changes the button layout. It does not restore the "swipe and hold to slide between all recent apps in one stroke" feature that was available in v9.

    Hi All,

Just to let you know I'm selling my pixel and my wife's on adverts including stands.

Unfortunately two cracked screens but in perfect working order apart from that.

Anyone have an issue with rapid/fast charging?

Pixel 3 will no longer charge with the fast charger, I've tried two (0fficial) fast chargers and it will only charge with the regular charger (official)

    Any ideas?
No debris in port-regular chargers work fine...

Contacted Google and they said they will send out another rapid/fast charger
