Great to see o emperor get music choice first prize, I was disappointed last year to hear that they are disbanding,I thought they have been one of Ireland's best bands since their debut album about ten years ago probably. Must be incredibly difficult for a band to make a living in Ireland, so many bands seem to start off well, but after a few years I'm guessing the likes of family and need to have some sort of steady income kicks in. I guess, you break a bigger market (U.K.) or it becomes a hobby. Anyway fair play o emperor, great music, not afraid to push the boundaries musically too, hopefully they'll be back.

Plus Waterford has a very bad name for hiring the same bands over and over again. New and upcoming bands find it impossible to get a chance of a gig when you have the same old 3 for the Road and No Hot Ashes completely dominating the line-up.

Don't think that is the issue, This is a national issue, Ireland is in general not big enough to support full time bands. I think plenty of opportunities out there for a band, if they good enough they can get gigs, loads of spaces there, central hall etc, free ones at first in pubs until they make a name for themselves.problem is a fairly successful band like emperor, as good as they were, a couple small gigs in your home town, a couple in Dublin, cork, Galway, Lk, kk, athlone.....that's about it for the year.it is not enough to sustain it IMO. It ain't Waterford, its small population, you try break into the UK and you have 50 urban areas when we have about 10, most. I suppose all you can do is try support the local, the up and coming, in hope that they might make break thru if good enough.

Alot of the issues with big bands coming to Waterford is that unless the likes of mcd are running it then they put a stop to it happening. They dont want them down in places like Waterford. Its not viable for them.

Belated credit to the Council cleaning staff who had the Quay so clean the morning after St Patrick's Day that you could operate on a patient there.

Also great job by the hurlers yesterday - into the League final in Croke Park next weekend!

I thought that event last week to bring a load of major retailers to view the city was an excellent idea, organised by I dont know, fair play whomever involved

Saw something on wlr web page or twitter of some councillor, can't remember exactly.
Checked..Eddie mulligans twitter page is where I saw it. Pretty sure I saw it on wlr somewhere too, maybe I heard it on wlr.

Not sure this is really where credit is due but the council clearly have decided to make this summer the season of road re-surfacing. Lombard street currently under way, with plenty of road markings in the Upper Ballytruckle, Pearce Park area finally (yes I have a local interest in these).

Oh yes Johns Street also on the list - that has actual craters.

Really wish they would get a start on Bunkers hill it has to be the worst road in the town,that and Doyles street.

Shane from Full of Beans- 10 out of 10, very nice guy and gave me some excellent tips for buying vitamins in the shop there recently. A must-stop for anyone who wants to eat healthier and the staff are top notch. Recommended!

Credit must go to the lads in Halfords, well one of them in particular, who looked after me at the weekend.

The battery in my mother's keyless entry car key went...and her spare too...on a Sunday! She tried opening the car with a key inside the fob and set the alarms off.

We couldn't figure out how to get in to where the battery was - stress levels were rising. A quick spin up to Halfords where one young one on the counter was seemingly hungover and bitching to one of her colleagues about being in work.

It turns out her colleague was brilliant. He didn't know how to get into the battery either, but went online and figured it out and did it for me.

Five mins later I was down the road with a functioning car key and an alarm switched off. Great to encounter a lad willing to show a bit of initiative.

And I love buying Irish , but unfortunately a lot of the ingredients to make Irish produce is imported from UK .

The Craftsman bar for opening up early for the rugby last 2 weeks- I know we lost yesterday but they had a great set-up there and the food from Marc is a delight, the buster breakfast is legendary! Its become a second home to this Cork man. Well done all!
