Live TV games

Loughnane Cyril Farrell and Tomas mulcahy all gone from RTE?

Actually just read that Sky have given up their Qualifier game on the 22nd, to allow another game later in the year. So no qualifiers/games on Sky that weekend at all..

Yeah crazy scheduling from the GAA.
You would swear GAA/RTE/SKY are not on speaking terms, and the GAA does this to annoy the broadcasters.

I would assume Sky would have have wanted Mayo or Monaghan games, RTE put them on at 7pm same time as Munster Final on RTE, so Sky threw a tantrum and said they wouldn't show any!!

Also no logical reason that the Cork/Clare match can't be streamed live on RTE.ie. Seems to be ok for soccer world cups and rugby world cups etc but according to RTEGAA they can only show one live game at a time. I presume thats so that they don't take over the 2 terrestrial tv channels. Surely theres no reason other than the lack of forward planning as to why the game can't be streamed :mad:

There are roughly over 300 live games on TV per year. The coverage the GAA gets for itself is exceptional especially when you compare it to other sports in this country. Add to that roughly 2 highlights shows per week, 100 per year, re-runs, classic matches - preview shows - radio coverage - its saturation! Yet people in the GAA still complain about the coverage it gets. I can't understand it. People won't be happy until every single game , league and championship is either on TV or streamed. There are articles in the mainstream media this week lamenting the lack of midweek GAA games - ignoring the fact that most GAA players have to work for a living, and they only exist to entertain us!

Try being an amateur athlete in literally any other sport in Ireland and look at the coverage they garner for themselves and their sports - then come back and complain about GAA coverage.

I'm not saying the GAA doesn't deserve the media coverage it gets. But its definitely disproportionate to what other sports gets - if you really want to see a game - get up off your arse and go! I know a good few people off to Ennis this Sunday that otherwise wouldn't be going!

But sure the most effective form of marketing is TV and radio minutes - maybe in terms of social media some counties are more effective than others but I'm not altogether sure it has too much of a knock on effect on attendances, awareness etc. An all encompassing streaming service is surely not too far away in any case.
