I've an 02 Bora from new 100BHP TDI, 160k miles, never replaced a drive and only put in the 1st ever wheel bearing 2 months ago. An unbreakable car.

+1 on the Bora, I owned one that was two years old at the time and put well over 50k on it and it needed nothing, it was my go to car then when I was "in between" cars last year, bought another one for E300 that had a years test and a few months tax, drove it on for about 5 months and not a knock or a bang out of it. Great cars, possibly because they're much lighter than a Passatt up front.

That's the same with most spurious parts. Fine for light use, but if you push on or do high mileage OEM is the only choice

Unless VAG parts are s**te as well?

€360 VW wanted for a drive back then, I got two from Otto and they were still in the car when it got killed.

I fitted an SKF complete shaft in my A6 about 15k miles ago now, no bother with it so far. Was only about €125

That Mondeo is a big heavy car so the 1.6 feels a bit underpowered and as a result they are a bit thirsty.

They were discussed a few months back in this thread. Great engine but particularly thirsty over 100km/h due to it only being a 5 speed (I think the eco-boost is 6 speed).

I have a few cars nailed down just thinking is it worth getting the motor check or green light verification also. I have a lad who is a mechanic will do the actual test, should I bother with the check also?

I would only pay for a report on a car that you are actually going to buy, as in a few minutes before handing over the cash.

I'm considering a bangernomics prius. Are they worth it or does a potential battery problem rule them out. I've heard that battery failures are very common after 10 years and expensive to fix.

05 new shape A6 diesel with NCT till May 2020, €1100

    Decent car for the money

Never had even the slightest bit of interest in one myself, but over the past week, I've been looking at the prices and have become strangely curious myself. I see a few around a grand or 1.5, and from what I've read online, people reckon the fact that you very rarely see them listed with new batteries or reconditioned batteries fitted, that they aren't actually failing all that frequently!

I see a crowd in Clare who do reconditioned kits and I think the cost for a Prius is around 550 for a repaired one with 3 months warranty, or 900 for reconditoned with 12 month warranty.

We have one with 250k on the clock, 2008 mark 2 prius and the battery is fine.
Grand cars, certainly more reliable than a newer diesel as there's less to go wrong.

Try aim for a Tspirit spec as they came with nicer stuff eg cruise control, ac and backup camera

Majority of the general public wouldn't tell a difference between the two if you debadge it!

Back in 1998 compared to the competition they were a great car, couldn't tell you what was on the boot tbh. The boss was happy with the lack of fuel receipts being thrown over his desk.

From a driving perspective I was talking about. The Bora boghopoer is nothing more than a polo, horrid yokes. I'm finished with this now as it's ruining the thread.

Road tax isn't 1800 quid is it? That has to be a mistake. If so it has to be a hard pass
