I had a motorway spin last night so already destroyed by bugs ..
The only things I added are the technology pack and keyless .. everything else is standard.
Thanks to dastardly00 for the inspiration on the colour!!

Ger in Halfords in Waterford i would highly recommend, he fitted a dashcam in my last A6 and again in the New one this year, top class job on both occasions

    Lovely GTI

Garage stickers/disc holder off and a set of pressed plates on. Always the first things I do with a new car!

I collected my GTI PP Dsg on Tuesday .. build completed on May 17th, arrived at the dealer a week later which is pretty quick!

Have any of you had a dashcam fitted? I'd like one with 'parked mode', so will need to be hard wired. Any experience of Halfords fitting service? And any recommendations? This one has caught my eye today ...

Out of curiosity, build finished May 17th or arrived in Dublin port May 17th? My car was on boat arrived May 17th and it won’t be ready for collection till next Wednesday

Build finished May 17th, and landed in Dublin on the 21st. VW customer service were good with updates along the way. They did say there was some congestion at the port that might cause a delay, but didn’t seem to affect it much. It arrived in Waterford on Friday 24th.

Looking at the GTi above, it's gotten me wondering. Will I upgrade? I've a 141 Leon FR (184PS) that's running like a champ so I don't "need" to change but I really don't need a diesel. I'm just wondering will I go for
    * A Golf GTi (like above) now (sensible choice)
    * Golf R now (a snot quicker than a GTi)
    * Leon Cupra (more manic than the R, more my style)
    * Wait for the new Golf GTi / Golf R / Leon Cupra?

Or, be sensible and keep the Leon, it's working just fine and as it's over 100k on the clock & 5 years old, I'll get a crap trade-in

Glad I could be of inspiration :p

You are soon to become very familiar with the 2-bucket wash method in order to keep the car clean :D

Great place to get some pressed plates. No silly fonts or anything, just nice legal pressed plates :)

Hard to say what to do here, the price to change might be pretty steep, but if you like the way they look, and can handle the extra road tax and small bit of extra fuel costs, I'd go for a post 2015 Golf R. They're about the same price as the GTIs and there's a load of them for sale online.

But I'm an interior snob and almost automatically discount the Seats for that reason.

Depending on what your trade in looks like now, and what it'd look like in a year and a half waiting might be an option too. It'll be a while though before the MK8 performance cars come in, and even then you might want to wait for them to iron out the kinks in a new platform.

Savage looking GTI kev, well wear! Really like that colour.

I see lots of negative posts about the interior of the Cupra but I didn't find them bad at all, there isn't a huge difference between the Leon and a Golf. Aside from adaptive cupholders and felt lined door pockets I can't think of much else missing from the Cupra.

If you're considering one, look at demo models. You can get a 181 for €32-34k and a 191 demo/pre-reg for €38k. The new price seems to have gone up to around €44k, judging by what's available. Big increase from the previous €39k and they still lack front sensors and digital dash as standard, I believe adaptive cruise is also still missing and Irish models with ACC are scarce.

They're a nice looking car too and less of them on the roads.

I think a remap will take it up to 240bhp. Would save you a lot versus changing the car.

There's a 181 for sale online and it's the 300 model with DSG, not bad value at 32k. Better sounding exhaust before they introduced wltp on the new 290's.

If its the blue one in Coltons it's been for sale for well over a year, i was trying to make the man maths work on one last year and it was for sale for 37k then

Doesn't seem like a bad price considering the other 181s I was looking at were 34-35k and didn't have ACC or keyless. I wish I was in a better position to be looking...

I'm surprised that some of them aren't selling, the first one I looked at sat for 6 months. Then there's ones that sell in a week that aren't necessarily better mileage/spec.

I was concerned about running costs doing high mileage. This guy obviously wasn’t.

Company car and company fuel card! Ex owner is on here, even though it looks cleaned up well I was told to avoid. With that mileage it's about 8-10k overpriced imo.

That’s probably a 10k a year fuel bill and no vat rebate so maybe 6k a year extra fuel costs for the company versus running a GTD

Totally worth it for good staff morale:D

To be honest, the likes of the digital dash, felt lined cubby holes, etc is of no interest to me. That's one of the reasons I went with the Leon (all the VAG tech, not the VW price).

I realise the new cooking models are about 2 to 3 years away. At that point, I'd hang on until the Leon gave up the ghost. I've trying to get the man maths working and maybe change now.

I know what will happen. I'll ponder and ponder, putting it off until before I know it, the new GTi/R/Cupra will be out.

    Thanks for the thoughts.

This pops up 9/10 times when I plug my phone in. At first I thought it was because my phone got a big update awhile ago but the Ford I had on holiday worked flawlessly every single time, several times a day. As much as I hate Ford Sync, at least it worked!

Can't find anything about VW Android Auto issues relating to it not starting, just people saying it's crashing. I don't suppose anyone here uses Android Auto? With how little there is online about Android Auto online it seems very few people seem to use it.

I'll try my mam's Mokka and see if it works ok with that.

I've never had that popup on my screen (191 Mk 7.5 GTI). I have a OnePlus 5T running Android Pie.

What phone are you using and did you use the same cable in the ford and Golf? Android auto can be very tempremental about cables and there can be issues with particular phones. Use the original phone cable or get an Anker one of Amazon. I use both with my Oneplus5 in a Leon and never have any problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,597 ✭✭✭tossy

Any issues I’ve had with connecting (albeit CarPlay) was always down to the cable.

Agree with above anker make the best cables going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 95 ✭✭mayflyatr

    How’s it going all.

Long shot but looking to see if anyone has aa original 19” Pretoria alloy available for sale? Silver preferably but will take any other colour. With tyre or without, doesn’t matter.

    In North County Dublin.

    Thanks,

    Nick.

    Cable is most likely it.

If it's android Anker or otterbox cables work well. Any chance you've rooted the phone or are running a beta build?
