Not the dealers problem, they never owned the car.

Do you know the name, address, phone of the previous owner?

You could go through the M50 toll and not pay, original owner will get hostile letters...

Few words on the rental....the thing seems effortless to go.... I've hit a Garmin satnav indicated 232kph several times on the flat...the car itself suggesting I'm going quicker but you'd put faith in the Garmin. It wasn't flat out either but I'm not the best pilot so wasn't being reckless ....the autobahn aren't as straight as I'd like them to be for long enough.

Munich to Stuttgart and some urban miles in both it returned 28mpg.

Quite comfy, seats great, minimal windnoise...body seems taut....no rolling about. Maybe over 200kph you can see how an R would appeal but for Irish roads it's all the car you'd need in performance terms.

    I wasn't caning it....generally in 5th or 6th coming out of 100 & 120kph zones and rarely dropped gears...just sank the shoe.

A small car with the heart of a lion 😍

Nice wheels but i hate the way the right side of the car they spin the "wrong way"

    Same with the discs actually...

All wheels with a somewhat off straight pattern direction do that. Unless you make them left sided & right sided they have to.

    Same for discs.

    I'm half hoping you're joking TBH :)

I'm the same. I can't stand "handed" alloys. Not too bothered about brake discs though!

Time to introduce my new motor, the forum GTI club is now complete :)

Wanted one of these for a long time and was disappointed when they decided to not bring it to Ireland once it finally launched.

UK import, previous owner had a Milltek Sport Road+ exhaust fitted, sports springs, and a small remap from 113bhp to 133bhp.

I put a set of OZ Racing alloys on it myself as the standard fit diamond cut alloys just aren't suited to this country, especially when your daily commute involves some country roads! I'm keeping the originals stored away safely.

The car itself is absolutely brilliant fun, especially on a backroad blast.

Had a few annual leave days left to take from work so decided to do a bit of a staycation and give the Polo a good run. Nearly 900km covered around the West of Ireland and absolutely loved it. It handles so well, yet is still fairly comfortable. Crossing roads that would have had me grimacing in the Fabia, this just seems to iron the bumps out. The seats aren't quite as comfortable as the Fabia, maybe they just need time to soften up a little but I was getting sore after a few hours where I wouldn't have in the Fabia.

Economy wasn't really a factor when I was buying as I do small miles but it's a nice surprise to see that it is economical. ~50mpg is way better than I expected from a 2.0 turbo petrol! 5.6l/100km from the drive home from Kerry to Dublin. ACC on for most of it, set to 124km/h on the motorway with a few overtakes on the N roads.

It's practical as well, and comfortably swallowed a bike and luggage for 2 people with the back seats folded.

The sound from the standard speakers is disappointing. I will definitely look at upgrading in the future. And I will also turn off the sound aktuator using VCDS as it can be a bit droney/boomy even when set to Eco mode.

One thing I've noticed is its ability to put its power down. In the Fabia, I always had traction control kicking in, whereas I've hardly had it intervene once in the Polo. The wider chassis and tyres help I'm sure. The Fabia also had a little bit more low down power I felt due to the supercharger and the 7 gears made acceleration quite frenetic whereas the Polo seems altogether more grown up in it's delivery.

Is the part specific to the GTI/GTD range? Have you got a part number?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,569 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Did any Boardsie get their GTI seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau this morning? :pac:

Or else anyone looking for a GTI might get a cheap one :pac:

You'd think with all that crime money they'd have splurged for the performance pack...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,597 ✭✭✭tossy

You'd be a brave man to buy that.

..... Meh..... It'll likely be auctioned off somewhere and the eventual owner will have no idea of it's history.

The current Hutch affiliated owner won't be overly bothered where it ends up either I reckon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 252 ✭✭Hebegeebee

I think the more pressing issue may be others not affiliated with the original owner who would have issues with said owner and his family. Would you be willing to risk a case of mistaken identity?

I heard that CAB auctioned cars have their number plate changed prior to sale

I'm thinking of getting an R towards the end of the summer.

Preferably Lapiz blue with Cadiz wheels. There's one for sale in Autosports at the moment, probably a bit over what I want to spend. Anyone know about that dealer?

I'll be keeping tabs over the summer anyway - a GTI PP would also be considered

That's a 7k mile car, well worth the money if all checks out, too many doors but is DSG - that's all personal preference stuff.

Don't know anything about the dealer however.
