Its a €50k+ car new with the spec it has. I can't imagine a Cat S would give you any issues with insurance, i'm sure there are thousands of cars like this on the road here that we don't even know about as they are not recorded.

DSG, PP, VW dealer, 182 instead of 181, no Cat C. 3K difference.

Missing the leather seats and the sunroof alright, though missing leather would be a positive in my eyes :)

That's a non PP. PP in the 7.5 is 245 bhp. Nice car all the same!

Ha, you can tell I usually look at MK7s. Fair enough so!

wtf, are those seats standard? Yuck!

The leather in the 7.5 has this perforated effect... red in the GTI, white in the GTD and R. It does look a lot better in the flesh... those photos are poor.

I'd have to have the tartan seats in a GTI. I like them too much.

I like the tartan too but my issue with the standard (tartan) seats is the absolutely appalling quality of the non-tartan bits - the door cards, armrests, bolsters, seat backs. Cheap, scratchy, easily stained material... it really doesn't feel right in a 50k car imo! That's why the half-tartan / half alcantara / "pleather" option was lovely and not bad value. Pity they dropped that in the 7.5. That "art velours" option ain't as nice imo.

Folks looking at buying a 2016 GTD. See one in the north with 50000 miles so although miles little high I reckon I can buy it all in vrt etc for between 19500 and 20k. Main dealers here looking 23 to 24k for identical car. Can't justify paying an extra 2000e for a lower mileage GTD.
What should the 2016 GTD I buy roughly stand me in say 2 years time assuming I'm doing 20km per year. Also why is the VRT calculator applying 19% VRT for a car with co2 of 125. Shouldn't it be 18%. I would like to stretch into the mk7.5 model but again they are still quite abit pricey. Thanks.

That's a real finger in the air question as there's changes happening to motor tax and I'd assume they'll tinker with VRT. You've also got the MK8 Golf coming and the ID3 if we're to believe VW is the Golf MK9.
Probably changes coming to fuel tax as well which may jack up the price of Diesel, I'd also expect them to allow vat to be reclaimable on Petrol or else they just stop allowing vat reclaims on Diesel. Then you've a possibility of a hard Brexit which may put an extra loading on imports from the UK.
One one hand I think used diesels might do very well resale wise but on the other hand prices could go to pot.

Your car won't be worth any less than an equivalent Irish one when your reselling just pick something with all the extras as that'll make the difference come resale time. You can easily advertise yours at dealer prices if a better spec.

Seems like a lot for a chancey one, nice spec though. What's light damage though has he pictures?

There are too many fish in the MK7 sea to be bothering with buying damaged ones for a perceived saving. Front end damage on a car with ACC could be mean big bills or loads of niggles alone.

Went and had a look at one today and gave a good test drive....felt like I was doing a carwow test drive lol. It so happened the one I was looking at had the noise pack that can bump artificial noise. I know this might be controversial but Jesus it's actually class. And least ya can turn it off in individual mode. I'm assuming the noise pack is a 1 in a million chance of finding or is it a common enough feature? Car had a FMSH but a few touched up bonnet stone chips that I'll have to decide can I live with.

    Noise pack?

Soundaktor I'm sure he means. To be fair, some people like it. I've no issue with, the only people who are out and out against it are a bit too purist for my taste :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,035 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

I thought it was standard, I'd rather turn it off.

Noticed the other day all EV's have to come with a noise pack after July or something, didn't think they've decided on a noise, but it has to rev up and down like a car on the outside for pedestrians.

I keep the soundaktor on when giving test drives, people who don't know about always comment on the "engine noise"

I usually keep the car in individual when I'm driving it, with everything in sport but the soundaktor in eco and that effectively turns it off.

Yea that would be exactly my idea to drive in eco but if I was in a showing off mood or that I had the soundaktor there if I wanted.

Is eco mode not just low volume? I thought you had to code it fully off or pull the fuse.

Is it the real sound of the engine just amplified or just a fake noise file like the i8 and the Kodiak VRS?

I think you're right, but in eco mode you'd barely notice it in my experience. I had it coded out for a while completely but was in odb eleven the other day and flicked it on again.

Not sure but when I went into individual mode theres a setting for 'engine sound off' and it sounded just like a normal diesel to drive but obviously I'd have to compare back to back.

Are these really hard to find on a car? I'm not mechanical or techy but is it the sort of thing that would give bother or lead to other issues?

Whats peoples thoughts on a 3 yr old with 50000 miles. I know little high but the price is good and 12mth warranty. What sort of issues is common on the GTD manual as the miles gets on? As far as I know isnt the timing belt 80,000 miles/5years. Cheers

All GTD's have the soundaktor but there was a sports and sound option on the GTD where there was an active exhaust, basically a speaker in the middle resonator and a rear silencer delete. That option was rare enough here and cars that had it came with red calipers. So it may have been one of those you drove today. They are louder than standard GTDs but it's still a diesel at end of the day, loads of v6 Audis have it

Yea man that was the one I had as I checked the pics and red brake caliper. Granted the car I looked at was a north reg and I'm looking at an english/north import. I assume the pack is no more common on imports, difficult to search for it on autotrader. The question is, is it the sort of thing causes issues the fact the exhaust and all is different. Like if I bought the car and the sound stopped working, I wouldn't spend money fixing it as it makes no difference selling it on but would it be the sort of thing if stopped making noise one could drive away with. I'm thinking of trying to stretch for a MK7.5 with lower miles and skip the soundaktor. Also, when you say they all come with a soundaktor, I assume the Leon FR didnt have it as standard as I just came out of one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,902 ✭✭✭hooch-85

Not sure on the Leon but I don't think they have it. They also dropped this option for the 7.5. the soundaktor is the speaker in the dash which is there to mimic engine sounds, as I said all GTDs have this, it's the active exhaust part which was the rarer option

Okay cheers. I actually drove a normal GTD about 2 years ago and never actually noticed the artificial noise through the speakers....perhaps it was turned off. Do you also know can the sat nav be easily retrofitted. Few of the GTDs have the sat nav button but then says to enter an SD card. Actually don't need sat nav but just don't like the button there and not having it ha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,035 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Has it android auto, you won't need the sat nav if it does.

Clubsport up for sale in Cork, no pictures yet but white, and looks like its been well enjoyed for 2 years, as it should be, 40,000km on it.

As mentioned, if you have an iPhone or android phone, app connect is way better to have than the sat nav. You can tell by hitting menu and selecting app connect. If it says it needs to be activated then a dealer can do that but it'll probably cost a couple of hundred.

Edit - just realised you didn't mention what year the car is. The pre 2015 small screen infotainment can't run app connect. You can tell which is which by the screen. The pre 2015 one has a shiny black bezel around the screen and is smaller. The newer one doesn't have the shiny black part and has a larger screen.

Some lucky bugger has just taken delivery of a black TCR which is on the Frank Keane Instagram page. Those Reifnitz alloys are something special.

Driving a gti as a rental.....the instrument cluster display tilts downwards...whats that about?
Brakes on the thing are phenomenal for a normalish car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

I find the brakes on most new VW's are ridiculously good, compared to driving most other stuff. Not sure how they do it but they feel immensely effective, even in the likes of a Polo etc, a gentle tap and the car is stuck to the road.
