People really need to grow up on both sides!

You'll always have racism unfortunately but that's just how it is!

    Accept it and move on!

Might have been the prevailing attitude 150 years ago but things have moved on.

At the moment the problem is most people have no idea what racism is

Simple case, recent post and a white person posted something. Wasn’t racist but was called out by a non white. The person that called them out was extremely racist against whites....anyway loads of people backed up original post as not racist but nothing mentioned about the racist posts because it was against a white person

    So we punish who exactly?

Also you will see a huge percentage of people think you can’t be racist against white people.....

I'm a bit racist myself but I keep it to myself, don't think you should be allowed send people messages like that and get away free.

Why would he have a problem with the people around knowing what he believes in?

Worst than the lenient sentencing for murder in this country. Especially if they're White. Racist non-whites don't exist so they get a pass. :p

no punishment for racist thoughts (yet) but when you actually go after and abuse an individual thats a different story.

punishment should be the same as equivalent non violent crimes

It really is amazing how Racist and bigots sometimes feel their free to voice up without any consequences to themselves. They make their comments at school gates, supermarkets, football games, work place, on the bus, on the train, waiting rooms, in the pub, everywhere! thinking to themselves "yeah I've just said what everyone is thinking" and never realize how badly they've marked their card and how it's gonna come against them, down the road.

We need to convince people that buying a home is hopeless, and that they should become lifetime renters, with that in place the state can become the largest landlord in the country, and we can implement a social credit system like in China where if you commit a thought crime or wrongthink, you're immediately evicted and cut off from government services. It might create a few extra homeless people for a short while, but in the long term it's a small price to pay to see and end to offensive jokes and speech.

    It shouldnt be accepted

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

China gets its ideas from Black Mirror.

I have two thoughts on this. Verbal attacks on people need to be policed. There’s no way people should be harassed walking down the street. Or online.

Opinions politely expressed, no matter how repugnant to some, don’t need to be policed. We go the opposite way, no platforming some speakers or banning people on twitter while street talk isn’t really actioned.

It's as offensive as you decide it is. Stan Collymore was never a slave. If he (and others) just decided not to be offended by these words then suddenly they don't have any power.

Equally of course people could stop saying these words, sure. But as long as they have power to hurt and offend then there will be people who use them. These people don't want these words to lose their power because then they won't be able to use them anymore. But the people who get so upset by them have the power to stop putting themselves at a "disadvantage" so to speak. Just laugh it off like an Irish person would laugh off being called a drunken leprechaun. Collymore is black today and he'll be black tomorrow no matter what people call him or don't call him.

Are you giving Black people advice on how to feel about racial abuse?

Is this what you're actually trying to do?

There are laws going back long before the internet about what can be published or said in public. Someone was arrested at a football match in England yesterday on suspicion of having broken one of those laws. If what is published or said is illegal, I don't see any reason for the victim to laugh it off.

An anarchist in California attacked a 74 yr old Jewish man , she lost her job.

That was clear cut so was going after Collymore, lesser though as violence not used, no physical immediacy.

Problem lies in the now debased idea of "that's racist".

Activists have been accusing everyone and everything of being racist that it is no longer clear.

The great majority of them being white middle to upper class socialists, they used it as a stick to beat all around and beneath them.

Giving them more leverage on this would be like returning to the Bishops in charge.
