What is or should be the punishment for racism?

I don't defend people being able to say absolutely anything - what about kids verbally bullying other kids? Yeah you need to let most stuff roll off you and be a bit tough but there's extreme stuff too that nobody should have to put up with.

That's harassment or threats so yeah if someone is being harrased or bullied then it should be stopped. The government saying you can only say certain things to insult people and not others? No I don't agree if you harass somebody for whatever reason then you should be punished not for racism or sexism over other things.

Couldn't racism or sexism be construed as harassment in certain cases though? I don't think it's a "one or the other" matter - it's a difficult one though, from all perspectives. I certainly don't agree with the nonsense of getting offended by anything either, and a certain amount of hardening the f up is needed by some if they want to get through life without cracking up.

I don't subscribe to the notion that someones actions are worse when 'racism' comes into it. I don't think tweeting a racist insult to a black celebrity is any worse than than calling an overweight celebrity a fat bastard or something. I think they're both dickheads but one isn't worse than the other.

Classifying as anti-social every single member of an ethnic group, based on the actions of some of its members: that, comrade, is racism.

Definitely, and I'm pretty sure there are things people can already be done for, breach of the peace or incitement or something (within reason of course)

Very few would classify absolutely every single member as anti social, but as a whole community, the problems are out of control (a lot more than just some of its members).
