Where did you get that from?

    http://www.moneyguideireland.com/property-tax-amounts-2018.html

You are soapboxing again. it's Dublin Councils who charge less and some of the rural councils are charging more.

The OAP should then sell their tiny house with toilet downstairs and move into well insulated cheap 6 bedroom Cavan house and pay less tax and less for heating. Or sell the house and rent somewhere suitable, not pay tax and have toilet upstairs. The OAP sitting on an asset with huge value and no mortgage (I assume) is not among those hardest hit.

That ain't gona happen. They will adjust the way they collect the property tax to make it more fair.

Dublin councils do charge the minimum allowed by law. Charging Dublin citizens more would be unjust as the money would leave Dublin & go to other councils.

Look make the argument all you want but all indicators are that the recommendations are for outside Dublin to pay more. The results of their study seem to point to Dublin being asked to shoulder too much of the country's burden.

I'll leave it there. We could have a thread for this alone. Time will tell what will happen but my money is for more money being collected outside of Dublin

A Terrace house in Donnycarney is worth more so is an asset - the fact the owner is sitting on it / living in , in is immaterial

Do you have tge study or is it just wishful thinking?

Anyway I have no problems with paying more or changing the system to take into account higher property price increases in urban areas in comparison to the rest of the country. But don't start with this country vs Dublin bs.

Of course its an asset but to suggest that the OAP sell & move to cavan rather than adjust the valuations is ridiculous. The government are looking for a fairer system. They have recommendations for a fairer system. They just aren't brave enough to try them out this side of the election

Listened to the piece Ciara Kelly did with the solicitor about legal fees, insurance premium hikes and so on.

She seemed to be absolutely sh1tting herself to say anything about the legal profession or the judiciary.

I can only assume her recent experience where she found herself in hot water over her comments on medical care for her relative has coloured her judgement so much she is totally averse to saying anything that might get her in trouble again.

She shut down the business owners from Galway who called in fairly quick smart.

In this instance, she should not go near anything that might involve a critical analysis of the way the law works in this country.

Has her legal difficulties been settled or is it still ongoing?

I'd like to know where that 'experts' gets his figures relating to UK premiums being the same as here. From the figures I've seen over the years they usually seem to be paying a 1/3 of what our premiums are.

I thought the same myself. Most of what he said didn't ring true imo.

Was wondering that myself. It's about the only hope we have of getting rid of her at this stage.

I'm probably alone thinking this on this thread but i don't get the love in for Susan Keogh as a replacement. Maybe her time filling in on the Last Word or Ivan have left their mark but I've always found her segments very fluffy and like subjects from Loose woman. She's a good journalist but I can't warm to her as a presenter.
As bad as some of you may find Ciara and not saying I agree with her all the time but at least she'll voice her opinion and get animated about a subject.

    ^^^^^^

Im all for opinions and the more the merrier,it creates an open forum for discussion. That's a healthy thing.

What I can't bear about Ciara Kelly is her insistence on the final say on EVERY matter and her opinion shall be heard above all others, regardless of the expertise of her guests or contributor, Ciara will shout them down and cackle her way through HER opinion.

She has an awful lot to learn as a presenter.

No guest gets to finish a sentence.
It's just bad manners and unprofessional I don't know why Ciara has guests on the show she already knows everything about everything

Agree, and I'm not an apologist for her and she's far from perfect but at least she's not afraid to go against the grain. I just find when Susan fills in her segments are all fluffy and nicey nicey, like shes got her mates around to reminisce about good times. It was the same when she filled in on the last word.

theres not being afraid to go against grain and then theres being dismissive of other peoples views and thinking your right about everything - terrible woman

Mummy talks bore me a bit. I must be strange but I never noticed judgement or cared about it. I do feel guilty when I listen how much sports other kids do and how good they are at piano when the only thing ours are really good at is Pokemon. But I don't feel guilty enough to do anything about it.

Edit: i feel sorry for the kids of a wagon that's on now.

The one Ciara didn't agree with and gave her fck all time?

Show is like a school playground.

I dunno, been able to only give the kids 30 mins a week screen time must require a huge amount of work/effort on the part of the parents.

    Not at all.

Frustration with her is just palpable.

That judgmental bitch that was on later should take note.

Come off it, You can't turn without seeing an obese kid.

The odd one will have a valid excuse the rest of them are just overfed.

She has a point a lot of parents just feed them with rubbish to shut them up.

She wasn't having a crack of parents with kids who have leukemia
