    Any high points.
I don’t have the will to look through a 44page document.

The bashers will get angry at this, while the smart ones will get ahead of it.. Peoples tastes are changing.. People are eating less meat and dairy. Farmers are foolish to ignore that and feel threatened.

But get this, the people eating less meat will probably buy higher quality, meat dairy, veg and grains. Where are irish farmers getting on to that.

Irish beef and dairy products are among the best there are. We have superior grass growing conditions here to produce it. As a group Irish farmers are well educated and great at what they do. That’s where we’re getting onto that, we’re doing already !

What we need is consumers to support that by only buying Irish products and challenging retailers importing cheap nasty products that undermines our economy.

We need legislative support from government to stop the processors abusing their monopoly of power and driving prices down in a never ending race to the bottom.

On rte radio 1 now, no one from an taisce showed up for the interview.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

The thing is the 'traditional' farmers diet has led to the majority to have a long and happy life in this country.

By traditional I mean dairy, fish, eggs, pork, bacon, a bit of game, cabbage, carrots, spuds, turnip, -- veg and home grown fruit and not abusing the black stuff or tobacco.

Now you have these hip young whipper snappers telling these farmers that "oh no you're wrong you should be eating this new Quorn pie with palm oil or avocados or soya" or whatever stuff being flown half way across the world and processed by some multinational.

You'd be a little bit peeved off at these young whipper snappers ignorance too if you were a farmer in this country.

Joe Healy, but the interview got side tracked into the old debate, 'cows belch but our cows are more carbon friendly than Brazilian cows'.

Wow it seems there’s nothing these f””kers won’t poke there nose in

It’s amazing that this propaganda machine posing as a “charity” is allowed to get away with this

    A firm stand needed here

Do you think that people from an taisce are going to belittle themselves to talk to shoddy polluting farmers in public. Well I never

Hmm not sure about that argument tbh.

The vast majority of our farmers produce is exported. A few people here reducing their consumption of red meat and/or dairy is hardly here nor there.

Its tastes changing abroad which are the bigger issue and there's **** all anyone here can do about that.

For the life of me I cannot understand why transport (planes and cars in particular) seem to have little affect on the environment whereas cows belching have caused global warming - and I am an environmentalist rather than a farmer. As for An Taisce....

This is propaganda - not education.

It really is despicable - no matter whether you agree with it or not.
Children should not be used to promote political ends.

In fact - there should be some constitutional protection from this kind of brainwashing - again whether you agree with the sentiment or not. Children should not be pawns.

Poor from the taisce representative. Dietary advice is explicit in the resource pack yet he blindly denies it while trying to change the subject.

Joe did fine and it seemed there was a statement at the end from the government about a potential change to the pack coming?

It’s pure political propaganda not seen since Nazi Germany started indoctrination nearly 100 years ago

And the cheek of the f””ker to come on live national television and say it wasn’t agenda driven and practically deny there was anything in there about agri is a joke

It’s about time that An Taisce was disbanded and it is being run by people who are solely out to drive their own political agenda.

We should be pushing to shut them down

Also it’s amazing that not every farmer on boards isn’t commenting on this

This sort of carry on has the potential to destroy farming in Ireland for generations. They are using the children to get meat and dairy consumption down

We need to be sure we have the stomach for the fight, because these crowd certainly don’t fight fair

what are the average annual methane and co2 emissions of a cow?

Also how much land would one cow take up?

What would be the output of vegetables grown on that same portion of land?

While I'm sure there are many that are well educated and responsible in how they manage their land and farms, I don't think it is anywhere near being universal.

I see an awful lot of ignorance and poor practice on Irish farms too. Sometimes it is ignorance or ingrained outdated thinking at best and other times it's downright intentionally destructive practices. Eg, removal of hedgerows to create bigger fields, or replace with fences because it's easier to manage without a single thought given to the fact that it absolutely exterminates any kind of biodiversity on that land.
Of, course it should not be done and in most cases is illegal. But you do still get the odd ignorant fook that this they are above all that. And they are not that rare either

You do know that nowadays you have to replace a hedge if you remove it

I assume you also know that for instance in the Reps scheme Irish farmers planted thousands of kilometres of hedges, to moscow on both sides of a road

Well a significant portion of it comes from you and me taxpayer via our wonderful government

Although I’m sure they are breaking some rule regarding declaration as they only list a tiny amount from the EPA

    Some digging to be done
