I think Ciara senses she is hanging onto her show by a tread, she sounds desperate on the radio today. I think her stand-in made her nervous I'm sure the production team enjoyed her week off more than Ciara

I have to disagree with you on this. Ciara has the highest listening lunchtime numbers in Newstalks history. Numbers jumped almost as soon as she took over from George.

There's times she annoys me alot but her job is safe as long as the numbers keep increasing.

Yes I'm sure those high listener figures are 100% legitimate

You do know that Newstalk don't compile the figures right? If Ciara's figures are wrong then so were Hook's, Kenny's, Joe Duffy's etc.

The listening figures are compiled by a totally independent company. They compile the figures for all the stations. They compile them in a transparent way.

Care to share how these trusted figures aren't legitimate??

I imagine Vanity Jane might read this thread with as considerable a level of disdain for those who contribute here as for those with whom she interacts or attempts to 'interview' on her daily radio showcase. An unbridled harpy.

she must have adhd or something - my stress levels have already gone up - everything at 200mph

she seems to be speaking so quickly today, tripping over her words. Last week listening to Susan felt so calm and easy to listen to by comparison

I didn't listen to much of the show - I quite like Ciara, but the subjects they choose to discuss are far too hand-wringy for my tolerance levels - but it just occurred to me, in the rush to find people who are being offensive that makes up so much content these days, isn't even suggesting "culchie" is offensive, in itself quite offensive to people who have been on the receiving end of actual racist language?

Ciara hasnt had an outlet for her views for a week , obviously couldnt wait to get back ( she even said it ) so she can get it all out of her system - she should be paying newstalk to host show - its therapy for her

This thread is proper ego boost. When ever I read replies from the usual suspects I think to myself well at least I am not like them.

Don't beat yourself up about it. Try to wean yourself off it. Maybe just log on at certain times during the day and don't go outside that. You can shorten or remove these time windows gradually so you don't suffer withdrawal symptoms.

I think the CK thread has just jumped the shark.

In other news (this comment directed more generally), can we keep within the boundaries of civility?

I was in the car yesterday, and I decided to flip over in the hope that she was still away.

    "B-b-b-but t-t--t-t-t-t-t-t- they ...... "

And the radio goes back to the off position.

never knew Ciara was an only child - as someone who lost their mum a bit earlier than most people do - understand what they mean by finding mothers dad hard.

Why do they let her cover political issues? She hasn't a clue about it. She's had several councillors on explaining how things work and she can't understand it. She keeps going back to her opinion and ignores the facts

Because, there are many people listening who relate to the position she would have on topics. Not everyone wants Pat Kenny level of discussion on every item. She is more aligned to people who have an awareness of something more so than having analysed completely.

If the topic on giving more power to local institutions is what lead you to comment the above, I actually thought it was no harm to have someone speak about their frustrations of experiencing inefficiencies rather than a Shane Colman/Pat Kenny/Ivan Yates type conversation.

I wouldn't make any policy decisions based on such a discussion, but I do find it interesting and somewhat different to the above.

There are nuts trying to tell me on Facebook that water meters or 5G are going to kill me with radiation. Other nuts are against vaccinations. I like my current affairs programmes not to be like Facebook

I heard a few minutes today about county councils. Her guest brought up something about libraries. She didn't agree. "Yeah, whatever, Goodbye.". Moved onto the next caller. As bad as Joe Duffy is, he'd try to counter the argument before cutting a guest off. She has a lot to learn.

As self indulgent as Duffy after only six months.

Pretty soon she will be saying "I know that I know that I know that"

I tried to ring in to ask Ciara her views on the pedestrianasation of Norwich city centre but I couldn't get through.

This is cutting edge radio for Friday afternoons. Someone wants divorce to be banned for marriages after set date in future.

"Unscripted" my hoop. Shows like this make me really miss Gerry Ryan.

I don't think much of her show, she's a bit boring, moncrief much more entertaining.
I like the way she says 'ok' in a drawn out way, it's kinda hot

this is pure rubbish today, like a phone in agony aunt slot.....

this guy saying he is 55, surplus to requirements, its always been that way, nothing to offer, on invalidity pension. I know that man could be depressed but this isnt very uplifting radio. ……..and Ciara saying he "amazes" her? Why? (maybe I missed something?) I think 55 is young, so much living still to do, so many opportunities these days to grab life and start again!
next caller saying how hard and isolating life is as a smoker...……. not topics most people can relate to or get engaged with. This is becoming like the Joe Duffy Show!

The Late Late Show, Ray D'arcy Show, are all becoming one big whingefest, sad stories, cancer, terminal illness. Am I out of step or is this the new entertainment, hearing other people's hard life stories? A lot of people need counselling and support but the national airways aren't where its found.
