The owner of that first house should feel very hard done by. Stunning house to only get a 22

Yeah, I didn't understand why they were only giving it 7's.

Too white. Not respecting the view. And the acoustics, which I didn’t understand.

It’s a bad score alright as the marks are really 7-10 (why would anything lower even get in the show?).

I like this show I have to say but these Wayne manor type houses should not be considered. They're too much, there's too much money involved and sure how can you compete with that, plus they're never homely.

Remember the two gay lads who won it a few years ago for the tiny cottage on the lake?? that was smashing and had everything.

sorry for saying Gay lads, it's just how I remember it .

Was that Longford or Westmeath. It was lovely, but afair it was a holiday home-think they also lived in England...could be wrong

    .

Just looking at the furnishings and fixtures in that house you could tell there was serious amounts of money sunk into it. They even had a giant multi-coloured apple down the end of the garden, the sort of thing that sculptors would be charging thousands for.

What was their background and where was the house? I thought I saw the Harland and Wolfe cranes in the background, was it up on some hill in Belfast where the merchant class live?

They own Argento jewellery and the house was once the home of Harland & Wolff chairman.

That second home was more suited to dermot bannons incredible homes show. Unreal

ahhh the only periodic element with a country named after it!
well it had serious backing cos the house was just too much. The refurbed doors were from another century and all that.

there should be a square footage rule or something.

That was the 2016 winner and it was fab. https://www.independent.ie/life/home-garden/homes/inside-rtes-home-of-the-year-the-dreamy-lakeside-cabin-that-won-the-judges-hearts-34670928.html

Really nice couple too. I emailed them about their kitchen table as I was searching for a similar one at the time. Got a really nice reply with lots of info and advice. You're right about the UK connection

    Well deserved winners

Rewatched this weeks programme. Winning house was stunning but felt sorry for the house that was behind by only a point-I’m sure it would have won on other weeks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,648 ✭✭✭honeybear

Anyone watch tonight’s show? Felt it was a lot weaker than last week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,713 ✭✭✭BabysCoffee

Has this show run its course?

It seems so scripted and choreographed to me.

However, I do think the judges are slightly more critical this year and it's not just oooohing and aaahing along with lots of wow's

I agree, I don't ever remember them discussing the acoustics in a house before. I still watch it but can't help but feel that the houses are becoming more and more show piece/hotel like. It is only the odd one I like. I think they are stunning but wouldn't live in them myself. How would you ever appreciate going away for a weekend :) With these houses I always find myself thinking where are their possessions. Absolutely no evidence of anyone actually living there. The old station house from the last season (I think) was my kind of home, comfy and cosy.

While a lot of the homes are great, I've found that this season many of them just aren't to my taste. They are more like showhouses or they are just trying too hard. While I do love a well restored cottage or Georgian building, are none of the entrants a standard 3 bed semi on the outside but done up well? I'd actually be interested in that.

BBC have a similar programme on daytime TV. Difference is its judged by neighbours and they also put similar houses together eg. 3 detached houses, 3 semi detached and 3 that wouldn't necessarily qualify for either.

Bigger pool but works well as looking at like doe like

Was thinking the same. But notice they don't show all the rooms. So probably they have everything stuffed into the other rooms before the filming.

Fairly unconvincing houses today. And a 6!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,346 ✭✭✭van_beano

The 1st house should have won it as the 2 lads weren’t interior designers and made a good effort.

Don’t think anyone will be hiring the interior designer of the 2nd house with the hammering the house got from the judges.

The 3rd house was too bling-bling.

Must say I agree with this. I also don't think the shows producers know what exactly the show is, like is it an interior design contest or an architectural design contest. It seems to be all about interiors for some houses and then all about architecture for others.

Like yourself I love restored Georgian cottages but am getting tired of seeing them on this show at this stage. Not a week goes by that we don't have some redbrick in Dublin 6 "lovingly restored by its current owners". They all look the same at the end of the day. A standard 3 bed semi would be great at this stage but I doubt we're going to see one!

Next weeks episode seems to have a converted church which should be interesting.

Was too austere rather. I don’t mind open plan but why does everything have to feel like an airport lounge.

House no. 1 should have been the winner there.
It was the 'homliest' of the homes tonight.
The architect fella mentioned that it showing what you can achieve "on a budget"... was he saying it was obviously cheaply decorated? :pac:

They really didn't like home no. 2, to the extent where I felt a bit bad for them. Slagging off the perfectly placed pile of books etc made me cringe. Fair play to anyone who enters their home into this, I wouldn't be happy at all hearing all that criticism about my poor house!

You'd want to have some big head to enter your own house on this.

The first house this week...the converted church, is literally the most horrible house I have ever seen on this show.
I don't get it at all.
I thought the wheelchair accessible house was stunning so bright and airy, timeless.

I hated it... thought house 3 was the best too.

I KNEW it would be that one! I hated it. Don't like that smarmy new guy either. Bring back Patrick Bradley.
