I for one couldn't give a flying f*** what the airline staff wear. Get me on the plane, get me to my destination and I'm happy as a pig in sh**. Let them wear what they want. Do many people really care how they look? I've a lot of respect for their occupation with a lot of the nonsense they put up with.

Call me obnoxious, but I think you have higher expectations of a service if those delivering it are well presented themselves

I wouldn't call you obnoxious but I've worked in hospitality most of my life and I agree all service staff should be well presented but I know from experience wearing uncomfortable clothes can hinder you. The shoes I had to wear in hotels killed my feet with blisters to the point I was in constant pain. The point I suppose I'm making is if I'm comfortable I'm friendlier more relaxed etc which in turn makes the staff customer relationship better.

You don't need to wear either make up or high heels to be presentable or professional. In some cases the amount of make up can make you look unprofessional. You can be clean and well groomed without high heels and make up.

One of my former housemates was a Ryanair flight attendant. The amount of rules re: uniform and make up were astounding. A certain tights colour, a certain particular shoe that had quite a high heel and there were rules about make up too. I think they went as far as to specify lipstick colour and the like. She always looked orange heading off to work. Some of her starts were really early. The thought of having to trowel on the make up at 3am - shudder.

On any decent airline you should be served by beautiful young women, not hatchet faced old sows.

"New policy will take effect from November". Got to love the pace of change at some companies. It's not like it's a complex decision to implement.
They got Louise Kennedy to redesign the uniform last year https://www.irishtimes.com/business/transport-and-tourism/aer-lingus-crew-to-get-sartorial-upgrade-1.3427409 . Looks quite nice imo though I'm no fashion expert :) Seems to be taking at least 18 months to actually phase it in though. No idea if they redesigned the men's version.

Jayz they'll have to get her to re-design. No trousers there.

Can women only be presentable with makeup on?

As long as they know how to act in an emergency I don't care if they are old or sows. In fact some of the best I have seen are the older ladies on Air France long distance flights who don't take any messing and are exactly whose hands I would rather be in an emergency

They can be beautiful and knowlegable.

I'm sure there's no shortage of "facials" when the pilot gets his hands on them.

Because he ejaculates his semen all over their faces.

I wouldn't call myself presentable without it, but that's just me

Of course. However their knowledge is more important I would have thought.

Doubt this will cause most to ditch the make-up, just the cement textured levels of it.

Don't be jealous of the girls :D

Why wouldn't you? Being presentable is about wearing clean, tidy, work appropriate clothing and having clean, tidy hair. Your facial appearance does not make you 'presentable'.

It's just a normal way of seeing myself, which I'd consider "presentable", I'd feel I look very tired or washed out without it, of course some girls can pull off the al naturale look no problem

In your world, do all women fit into one of those two categories? No in between at all? No beautiful older women, nor "hatched-faced" young ones?

It must be quite nice to live such a simple existence.

I feel the same as Prominent Dawg - and I certainly don't wear much make-up, only a bit of BB cream and clear mascara, but I would look washed out without it because I'm super pale. Especially if I'm tired or it's cold out.

I don't think you need to pull off the natural look, you just need to be comfortable with it. But it's mostly personal thing. I never looked at a woman without make up and thought she is not presentable. However I would look at women and men in creased dirty clothing and think they are not presentable (not including those who do the type of work where you get dirty).

Aer Lingus is nothing like as good as it once was, it has gone downhill a lot.

As a man I find a woman's bare face pretty attractive actually.

    Do whatever you want really.

Their in a skirt suit which if you ask me looks much better worn with heels than flats.. love the idea of introducing optional clothing , however not sure it's going to improve the look as their uniform is already horrific

    Who doesn't!. :D

I think it's a good idea anyway. Being presentable as a face of your company is important, but it doesn't require a full face of makeup.

It was an absolutely pointless rule because women will wear makeup anyway. Their appearance is of utmost importance to them.

Step in the right direction. Seems like a bit of an anachronism

I’m sure some will still choose to wear it but it’s nice to have the option not to. Plus I doubt they’ll wear it to the same heavy degree, the red lips etc at a 4am start is excessive to say the least. Some may have felt it detracted from their appearance.

Don’t kid yourself, they love looking glam. It has always been a glamorous job.

I'm assuming they also ditched the "weight-height in proportion" requirement?
