mrs kelly was in Cork( where i live ) last night for some sort of walk , i was tempted to go down there with a sign saying - ' feminazis not welcome in cork ' or ciara you are not welcome here . lol

wasn't a joke then. Bloody hell.

I think I have noticed a possible correlation between men with problematic attitudes towards women's rights, and men who habitually refer to women as "females".

Any time I stumble on to Andrea it's an absolute car crash.

Horrific stuff. How on earth did this person get on to radio.

I can't say if it's Andrea's fault but the section on landlords & tenants was literally car crash radio. There wasn't a single caller. that I heard, on that topic that made any sense. No middle ground caller at all Then there was at least two bad phone lines that shouldn't have been allowed continue .

I say the same thing a lot here but most of the shows failures are down to bad production rather than a bad presenter

ah c'mon, if you think you can do better, then have a go yourself? Radio stations will listen to any demo/podcast you make.

She seems sound to me, asks all of the important question. There's plenty of room for disagreement, not everyone will like the same broadcaster, but asking how she got on the radio is stretching it a bit far. There's a huge amount of competition out there.

    Huh?

If we're to take on the profession of any we critique it would all get a bit mad Ted. No it's unlikely I could do better, but thankfully I'm not blasting out of the nation's wireless's ;)

I don't care if she's sound or not. I know loads of sound people, that doesn't make them good for radio. I don't know if you were listening today but that landlord section on fairly hot topic at the moment was utter garbage radio while the technical difficulties didn't help.

She failed to take control of it. There's no flow with her It's a bit like she's in there for a transition year school project it's really terrible.

The fact there's so much competition and this is the best of it is frightening.

I haven't listen today so I can't comment on today's show. I don't mind Andrea Gilligan, I think she is ok in the mornings but I don't think she is suited to phone in type of program. Neither is Susan Keogh and neither was George Hook in his lunchtime slot. I know some will disagree but Ciara Kelly is actually very good dealing with callers.

thats par for the course with newstalk... worst channel ive ever heard for bad phone lines.

i dont mind andrea, her voice is a lot more 'ganache' than Ciaras to listen to... and she comes across as a bit more informed

have good time for Andrea and hope she does well in her career - a good country girl who tells it like it is - not pc obsessed and not a feminazi - so all good

It really is strange. Across all shows, they seem to have this problem.
I used to think it was because of a willingness to go with Skype calls time and time again when the connection had broken down already.

But I also noticed it on previous podcasts where I felt the sound engineering was poor. I think it was the Team 33 one when it started where you could hear a door being opened and shut repeatedly close to where it was being recorded.

Give me Andrea any day of the week over Ciara Kelly.
I just find her more professional,I can't put my finger on it.

You are posting nonsense to get a reaction. It could be a description of a 'troll' but I don't think that's allowed here.

better than Ciara is not much of an achievement.

But the last thing Andrea is professional. Closer to a nervous intern.

She is a professional. Thats my entire point.

She is an established journalist and broadcaster.
Im not denying that today's show was below par.

It was woeful on several fronts.

i have to agree. i heard eamos ( i thinkwas his name) . as soon as he starts talking scence about the prtb being a scam andrea cuts across him and his interview is practically over. i would have liked to hear him out

the next guy wasnt making any sense at all.

i usually like andrea the few times i have heard her but today ( or that few min) was a car crash. not sure was it her fault or the producers for not knowing what the caller was going to say.

I didn't hear today's show, but would agree with Roger, she's undoubtedly a serious professional.

I reckon she'd be slow to pull out the sexist card, but I'm more than happy to. A man in her position, or in CK's position, would not be faced with the same criticism.

Pat Kenny and Seán O'Rourke never come in for the same criticism.. Perhaps I'm wasting my breath / bandwidth... Nobody every thinks they're the sexist. Its just a coincidence that they're least favourite broadcasters are wimmin.

    Utter horse manure.

Pat Kenny while been a boring aul fart is someone Ciara/Andrea are not talented enough to be his assitant and it's nothing to do with the fact they're women. They're just ****e radio hosts.

Your arguments are lazy and simplistic.

    "can you do better?"

    "it's because they're women!"

Why does everything have to turn into some sexist shiote show.

Someone posted a link to a Gerry Ryan podcast on another thread a few months ago. The very first thing that jumped out at me was the clarity of the phone line.

    a tyrant is right - meeeeh !
you cant criticise a woman - they are beyond criticism - we must all build up their fragile self esteem and tell them they are great all the time or we will be considered sexist -

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,695 ✭✭✭the_pen_turner

if pat kenny or others presenters said half of what ciara says they would be taken off the air or lynched like hook was.
some of the guests and ciara herself have said some terrible things. like noreen blackwell , the head of the rape crisis place in dublin coming on air and saying that all rapes are caused by the man and that if the woman has any drink taken then she is a victim but if a man has drink then he should be able to control himself and not rape

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,088 ✭✭✭goochy

well said - plenty of positive discrimination for women and you dont hear them complaining about it
same in my work - a woman can tell a male boss to f off ( which has happened ) and nothing is done but if it was a man they would be fired

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,624 ✭✭✭✭meeeeh

I don't know about the phone lines but the record is clearly broken here.

meeeh - its ok for women to whinge but not men - so much for equality - if you dont like whats playing - u can go elsewhere - this forum isnt just for feminazis who worship the kelly one
