are these signs she is controlling? i am starting to worry?

Yes, she seems extremely controlling. I house share and I wouldn't have a problem with one of them looking at a bill for the house that comes in my name - because, you know, it's a bill for the house!

Perhaps, as another poster said, she's not ready to share her space? Maybe sit down and have a talk with her about what you expect from a relationship and living together and what she expects. You're her partner, not a lodger, her behaviour is not on! But if things continue as they are then I'd be making a hasty retreat. Be careful and keep an eye on things.

no it clearly was an ESB bill.
look at the ESB bill the next time it arrives, you can clearly see it is an ESb bill, genuinely

She sounds like a refreshing break from the vacuous airheads who drown out conversation and peace in the home with their definitely-not-reality or commercial soccer shows. A tv-free home is a quality of life statement and I can completely see where she's coming from.

Use your personal phone/laptop with headphones for that intrusive, commercial stuff.

Are you his girlfriend by any chance?

thanks for the replies. after all everybody said i have made up my mind. either we are partners or not???? her choice now. i really shouldn't have to post on an internet forum to make up my mind. either we are partners or not. full stop

This does read like an After Hours thread. For that reason alone I’d recommend you pack your stuff.

    niallers
    i wouldn't watch reality shows.
and i must be the only man who knows nothing about soccer at all. i'd say i havent watched a soccer match in five years. genuinely.
so there was no fear of me watching soccer shows

I’m not sure your getting this it’s not an ESB bill. You said it was clearly marked ESB and it wasn’t. You need to do a little bit of homework before throwing pointless facts into your windup.

Jesus, I have been married over twenty years and would never ever open post that wasn’t addressed to me. Nor would they open mine, unless I explicitly ask (if I was away or something).

This sounds like a class mismatch to me. You’re a bit rough around the edges for this girl I’d say.

sadly, it is not a troll

i should have had more confidence though than to look online for advice and should have made up my own mind.
And i have made up my own mind now.
though that was after reading all the replies.
SHE IS WAY TOO CONTROLLING!!!!!!!!!!!! END OF

I’m with her if she just doesn’t want a telly in the house to give two fingers to the tv license crowd.

Was it a bill from Electric Ireland?

but i pay the ESB bill. surely i can see the bill.

i total respect a persons right to privacy.

you must see the context here. it is a household bill. the clue is in the word HOUSEHOLD. it is not a personal bill . it is a household bill. i pay the bill. sure i can see it without saying having to say every time it arrives "please can I see the ESB bill"

    no???????

It does amaze me that such people exist and even more so that there are enablers who befriend or partner up with them who allow what they know to be bizarre and improper behaviour to persist.

My wife and I have a healthy relationship I feel, we have our joint lives and the separate parts of our lives too, which means we keep some personal money to do whatever the hell we like, within reason, and also that we never, ever look at each others phones.

To the OP, its not you its her, its not too late, get out ta fook.

Except her objection isnt about licence or cost or anything the OP could propose a solution to. They are more esoteric.

    no???????

No. You pay 100 euro which is to cover bills. You don’t pay any bill directly.
It isn’t addressed to you, it is not yours to open. Was it addressed to ‘the householder’, or to this woman?

What do you want to see it for, it’s not yours. If anyone was being called controlling, it would be someone grabbing and opening bills in someone else’s house, and throwing a strop when told to knock it off.

Where is your house, go open the bills there.

    Oh you meant electric Ireland

An Post deliver to an address. Once it's through the letter box it's delivered. So is it still mail once its delivered?

OP she is doing this after only a few months. Either man up or leave because it ain't going to get better doing nothing. You could always buy a monitor and use the Internet, no TV in the house but you can watch the news and rugby.

Just curious but if the relationship continues, would you be willing to pay half the mortgage and bills?

I wouldnt without seeing the bill first! Would you split the bill in a restaurant without seeing it first...
