I'll download and give it a chance and run it alongside Plex

Had a read through the Premier list to see whats offered, seems the same as Plex Pass, which I have.
Forgetting about remote streaming as I'm happy with the Plex set up at the moment is there any standout difference between the 2 servers and their paid services that anyone has an opinion on ?

I've ran both together on a Dedi server without issue but I'm not sure how well the Shield will cope with both at the same time. I'd certainly disable Plex while Emby is doing the initial scan and scrape.

Tried something out today , linked up the Shield with my laptop to see if I could transfer files over the network. Bit of messing to do , ie for some reason the Shield took an age to setup the credentials log in so I could log in on the pc running Windows 10 .
I have eir , 100mbs connection. Have TP links for an Ethernet connection to the Shield , so I get roughly 80-90 mbs on a good day . Sometimes have to reset the plug at the socket to increase the speed if it drops .
Anyway , started to transfer files over the pc . It never got more than 4mbs . And hovered between 600kbs and 2.5mbs . Is this normal ?
I even went so far as to connect the laptop directly to router thinking it might speed it up .
Maybe I was expecting too much , but that's pretty brutal .

Shield uses smb1.0 only. You'll fair better using ftp instead.

Anyone lose audio when streaming games from your Steam library in GeForce Now??
    Can't figure out why

So I've had a problem with Plex on my Shield for over a year whereby in client mode playing a movie from my local Ethernet connected NAS the movie just randomly fast forwards or jumps forward. I thought it was isolated to the Plex app but I recently installed Kodi and although it worked fine for a day or so it soon started acting just as weird when trying to move up and down menu's and whilst playing a movie it also jumps forward and fast forwards randomly.

I don't think it can be two rogue apps and I don't think it has anything to do with the files on the NAS as they actually play fine via VLC and via Plex on other devices so I'm beginning to think it must be either the remote controller or the game controller. I pulled the batteries from the remote and the behaviour continued so I'm hoping it's the game controller but I can't figure out how to disconnect the game controller.

    Can someone advise?

Do you have any mouse toggle apps installed or similar? Unpair the controllers in settings -> remote and accessories -> shield accessories. You can use the smartphone remote app while you're testing

I had an issue where my game controller acts as if it’s pushing up so I let it run flat and fully charged it and then rebooted the shield and fingers crossed it seems fine since
Tip given to me by high horse

Have this issue for forever . And it's disrupting everything in the Shield . I've been reading a lot about it and some say dodgy controller , others say it's the updates . Trying to find out how to RMA the controller here . Not sure who to contact about it , Nvidia themselves or the resller on Amazon .

I RMA'd a dead controller last year and am in the process of RMA'ing the remote now too. I did this using LIVE CHAT direct with nVidia even though I bought on Amazon. I didn't want to return the whole package and RMA'ing with nVidia meant I just got the controller replaced. The LIVE CHAT link is here:

    https://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/support-uk.html

They'll ask for a picture of the Shield box that has all the serial numbers on the side. MAybe you can find the serial number from within the Shield itself somehow if you don't have the box. Proof of purchase also required. I just sent them the Amazon invoice.

    Good luck!

Cheers! I think I still have the box in the attic and should be able to get the Amazon invoice . Was it much hassle doing it? Presume you pay for postage for the return ?

Not much hassle, no. You will have to talk with them online though and try some of their suggested solutions first, e.g. unpair device, go to Settings - App - nVidia TV Remote services [can't remember exactly] and clear data/cache. Reboot and re-pair. Stuff like that. You won't get an RMA number straight off the bat.

EDIT: They'll send you a shipping label as part of the RMA process so postage is free. Mine was sent to The Netherlands.

I'm just in the process of returning my remote too - stopped working at the weekend.
New batteries and then the steps above didn't help, so have sent them on the details.

Also bought off Amazon but went through Nvidia chat.

Thing is , it's not dead or anything . But it just randomly pushes up . It has come & gone with updates so I'm thinking i might try the clear data / cache. See if that tides me over til the next update. I have two spare ps3 controllers which are grand but the mouse pointer doesn't work. So I tried out the nvidia shield app last night, the pointer works . It's a pain in the hoop alternating between this and the remote . But I'm not forking out for a new controller if it's actually a firmware issue on their end .

My remote isn't dead either - it just all too often refuse to wake up for 30 seconds or become really laggy. Then it's fine again. Still faulty. The controller and app for the phone works fine. Tell them what the fault is, maybe they have a suggested solution that works, RMA if not.

    Mines the exact same.

Had the dead or critically low battery warning for ages, that's gone now. But the remote is virtually unusable now

Try unplugging any stuff from the USB ports. I tried to use a hub a while back that must've been poorly shielded because the remote wouldn't work with it plugged in. I also had to try two different USB cables [for a hard drive I had plugged in for a while] before the remote worked with it. No point getting the remote replaced if it's your environment that causing the problem.

Hadn't considered this as an issue. I've a hub plugged into one of the USB ports, and a 2TB hard drive in the other.

However, the remote was working fine up until the last update that came down

Does anyone know if there’s anywhere that sells the shield tv that accepts One4all vouchers? Pcworld have them online but it’s unclear whether the online store accepts them.

Just an update on this. I was able to get one on the John Lewis site using Parcel Motel. The one4all voucher worked even when paying in sterling.

Got my RMA authorisation - the email says I can use DHL, FedEx or any other courier - anyone advise how you went about it - will the courier collect from your home address, or did you have to drop at a depot?

Edit: actually, looking at the shipping label, it's marked FedEx, so I guess I better call them...

Did you open the web GUI with your laptop using the URL provided when your setup the Emby server app? From there it should be self explanatory add library, add users etc.

You do understand how it works? Just like Plex it's a server > client setup, this is just the server part, not the media playing client.

Anyone have any issues getting the Plex media server running. I can see it is "stopped" in the settings. When I try to start it... it looks like it's trying to start up but after a minute gives up. I've rebooted, clear app cache, force stopped the app and restarted. Anyone encounter similar issues?

The Shield is online, right? Plex Media Server on the Shield does not work AT ALL offline.

When I log in via laptop Emby asks me to connect to server.

How do I do this if my 6TB HDD is connected to my Nvidia Shield?

Both laptop and Shield on same network but different parts of the house.

Make sure both your server and app are up to date,It happens when they go out of sync in terms of updates.
Sometimes you have to push the server update from the app store

Did the setup of the Emby server app not give you a URL to connect direct to the Shield, it would be the IP of the Shield on port 8096
    http://<shieldIP>:8096
From here you have a server dashboard that you can configure your library, add users and lots of other stuff

Mine works offline, streaming through the shield.

All my files are held locally in a 2TB hard drive attached to the Shield.
