It'll never happen, but I'd love to see Ringrose play at 15. Great boot, really elusive and always finds a gap to make a line break. Superb defender as well.

Wouldn’t start him there for Connacht atm never mind Ireland

He'd be a great man to have on hand if we needed a last-minute drop-goal again though.

I mean, we're clearly forgetting the obvious solution at 15.....

There was an interview with Henshaw recently where he made the point that while he was at one time a 15 converted to centre, it's been a few years now, and he doesn't feel prepared to play 15 now.
It would require a change in mentality, and a lot of re-training, with a certain amount of physical change, he'd need to slim down a bit and work more on his counter-attack from deep and aerial work as well as positioning.
I've no doubt he could be an absolutely brilliant international fullback given the time at Leinster to play there, but if he doesn't do it for club, then he really has no business doing it for country. It's not fair on him to expose him to that scenario, and it could be disastrous for the team. There's no need to take such a risk coming into a world cup.
Perhaps the next world cup in 2023 that might be a possibility.
For example, Conor O'Brien at 12, Ringrose 13, Henshaw at 15 could be a super move for Leinster for next season.
Larmour as a wing with a view to potentially replacing Earls after the world cup.

We're talking about Henshaw as a 23 to cover centre primarily, and fullback in an emergency. Carbery will almost certainly be on the bench to cover 10 and 15, so it would only be a case of Sexton and Kearney/whoever starts 15 both being injured that he would need to cover there. If Joe goes with Aki/Ringrose I would be fairly certain Henshaw will get the 23 spot.

Tulaugi is an injury nightmare. We should run straight at him. He's liable to get injured. His fitness is a concern also. He's a 60 minute player.
I'd be more concerned facing Slade. He can create and has a good rugby I.Q.
If Jones reverts to form, I expect to see Brown at fb. Teo at 12. It will be an arm wrestle and our fitness will wear them down.
England certainly have the players and the physical specimens, but if they bash it up the middle, they'll struggle.
Ireland will try to retain possession and possibly kick behind the backline. England struggle to cope with that style of game.
If it's a crappy day, that will suit England imo.

in whatever state Tuilagi is in running straight at him isnt the best plan....
We can retain possession well at times but i dont see why england will struggle if they bash it up.

I'd be much more wary of an England side with Tuilagi at outside centre. Slade is someone with a complete skillset for an outside centre. Lovely passer, great boot, runs great lines. But he has never made the step up to test level. Just looks like he can't hack the increase in tempo and pressure. Falls off tackles a lot.

He played there mostly in 6th year actually before finally settling in the centre

Slade has always flattered to deceive at this level, he's been exposed as thoroughly mediocre every time and somehow keeps getting selected. And while Tuilagi is a freak it's been a long long time since he showed what he can do internationally. Ringrose is far better than either of them.

Anyone else bothered about foreign players playing for us? Just me? I know every country is at it but I'd rather have a homegrown team.

It lessens the value of it in my opinion.

When one looks forward to the RWC, it is clear that FB is the position where we are most short of a definite No 2 (obviously also to an extent at SH). If Kearney misses out of the RWC squad through injury for example, we need a tried and tested replacement.

I would be hopeful that Schmidt will make use of one or other of the 6N games to try out alternatives of whom there are currently 4 -- Larmour, Conway, Addison, and Henshaw.

I'm deliberately omitting Carbery from the list though he could end up there at the RWC.

Is hooker not the crisis position?

I'm just happy we're going into a 6N arguing about selection between such great players, rather than some years where injuries to one or two key players would leave a knot in your stomach..

Still nervous about the England game though, not sure how much of that is just habit from years past...

The always charming John Mitchell weighs in on this weekends game:
"Ireland will try to bore the sh1t out of us on Saturday".

No wonder the players on all the teams he's coached have ended up hating his guts.

On the first weekend of last season’s Six Nations, before Johnny Sexton’s superb drop-goal that kick-started a wonderful year for Irish rugby, France made a monstrous 253 tackles.

That staggering figure set a record for the most tackles made by any team in Six Nations history, surpassing Wales’ phenomenal efforts against the same opponents in 2015.

In fact, every one of the top six team tackling tallies has come against Ireland over the past four years.

    ^^Robbed from The Telegraph.

So that's it in a nutshell. We keep the ball and you keep tackling us to try and get it back. Guess who's going to tire 1st? As the lads say about Tuilagi... He's grand for 60 mins and could end up injured long before that. I wouldn't be worried about Ringrose up against him, I fact if I was him I'd be more worried about facing Ringrose. With his eye for a gap and his footwork it could be a long afternoon for Manu!!

What would be your criteria for players eligibility?
