Anyone know who is the wholesaler for Zappi chargers in the Republic of Ireland? I'm more so looking for information than to buy one.

Sorry I don't have the answer to your question but just wanted you to be aware in case you weren't already that there appears to be some sort of Zappi Product Update announcement happening around 2:30pm or 3:30pm today (Nov 29th).

Maybe a new range of Zappi Chargers coming soon ?..

I'm sure you already know that you can get the manual for the current Zappi chargers online (not sure if that would help you with the type of info you're looking for though).

They’ve announced their untethered chargers for delivery in 2019.

I believe they will have a smartphone app coming out soon too.

I think a lot of people are waiting for this alright..

Hopefully we'll get it soon & it will be compatible with all the chargers..

    http://www.electricautos.ie/

€585 for the 5m 1st gen (tethered) and €8 postage. I found them great to deal with and the Zappi is very good especially if you have or plan a solar PV setup.

I'm fairly sure they said on twitter that the hub will be compatible with the current charger, but will be an extra cost.

Any prices on the new models?

myenergi say that the new models are available for pre-order however they are not answering any questions on twitter regarding pricing.

I'm trying to decide whether to order existing model now or wait for new model early next year.

I'm going to wait for the new version too. Untethered I'd say to allow for an easier future upgrade.

Be aware that the prices for the new models are considerably higher than the current model:

    From myenergi, new prices are:

    zappi 7kW untethered £695.00
    zappi 7kW tethered £725.00

    zappi 22kW untethered £795.00
    zappi 22kW tethered £845.00

    All prices are inc VAT

Apart from the app that is supposed to be coming what does the new Zappi do over the old Zappi?

I dont see anything new in the glossy video of it. Seems like an excuse to increase the price to me.

Anyone know if there is something else I've missed?

    My thoughts also.

The app will also be available free to those with the current Zappi. A hub will be needed to use the app (£85 inc VAT). I'm not sure if the hub is included/necessary with the new Zappi or will that be another cost.

Personally, I think the increase is just to increase profits and hence why I went with the current model.

I will upgrade my leaf gen 1 in time so the untethered version is logical for me anyways. Don’t fancy shelving out again to change a charger to suit a different car.

Any ideas where to buy a zappi in ireland? places quoted here are out of stock. I can order from myenergi but they have a 1-2 week wait time. Any ideas? Also where is the hub? I can only see things like eddi and harvi in their products page. Our house is only single phase so the &kw old version seems max we can use.

Darkin Electrical in Rathcoole do them as well, seems to be same price as Nigel Daly.

Still out of stock when adding to cart online.
No bother, I'll just go to manufacturer.

Have you tried contacting electric autos by email or phone?

You will get a better understanding of the stock situation than simply accepting a line on the website.

Yes direct on Facebook. End of the week new type 2s are expected, thought I said that.

Been talking to people about them. The general consensus I seem to be getting is that while they have a wide range they also have a rep of being a complete rip off and there are a couple of contractors that work for them that are riding the bandwagon. There is a lot of chatter about it on the EV owners page. Some rip off merchants out there.

I only bought the Zappi charger from them, so I can’t comment on anything else. The cost was within a few euro of what MyEnergi sell them for. I spent 20 minutes on the phone discussing my needs benefit purchase and I got some good advice.

Having siad that, some of the quotes I’ve seen for install from an apparently reputable installer, who shall remain nameless, have been eye watering. Well into 4 figures. I’m sure he does a good job, but €600 for half a days work seems to be the going rate. Mental.

Are you sure Nigel M Daly & Son will remain nameless in this thread? :p

He does a good job and he knows how to charge for it. Plenty of people on here knew up front he wasn't cheap, yet went with him. Nothing wrong with that, it's a free market

Personally, I prefer to get better value for money. In fact Nigel M Daly installed my charger free of charge under the old scheme :D

If I was an electrician or a car sales man, I know what market I'd be getting into now ;)

Yeah maybe I shouldn't have been so harsh on electricautos but they are expensive by comparison to some. As for the installers in actual fact am not referring to anyone in particular but some prices that are being quoted are moon money!!!!. I believe in value for money but ho my Christ some of them are just using their imagination on some of the figures.

Like I say, within a few euros of MyEnergi to supply.

At the moment for a 5m type 2 tethered, it's €588 shipped from Myenergi, or €593 shipped from electricautos.

    ...i completely lost you here...
On other PV quotes topic, you said maxim €400 for two people to install a 2kw PV solar system over 2 full days.
On this topic, you are saying that €600 for half a day to install a fcking car charger is good value for money !

May i ask you to decide which one is "better value for money" because i donno how to say it...but i kind of just dont get it... are you THE installer or THE seller !?

Zappi installed today, Ioniq coming on Monday.
Unit smaller than expected. Easy install not much to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭deegs

Installed this yesterday will hopefully get electrician out to connect and sign off for €100 :)
Quick q so I can test.
I have night mode but it's not smart. Am I right in thinking Eco mode + timed boost set to my leave time is the optimal setup?

I haven't used it but it sounds like that will do what you want.

The Outlander has a small enough battery so I just leave it on eco mode and set the cars timer to kick in at midnight, the thinking being that a low charge rate will keep battery temps down and extend the life. No idea if it will work or not though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,154 ✭✭✭spakman

I had my Zappi installed today and I had it on Fast charge mode to begin with and was getting 7KW which I was quite happy with.
Then I decided to try to set it to only charge during night meter hours, so I switched to ECO mode and set the Boost Timer for 23:00 to 08:00.
The strange thing is that the Zappi is saying it's delivering 1.2KW to the car and this is coming from the solar panels, nothing from the grid.
Why is this strange? a) It's pitch black outside, b) I don't have PV solar panels, they heat the water!!

    Any idea what this means??

Edit - Photo of zappi display attached.

Could your sensor be connected to the wrong terminal inside the Zappi?

Does it show the same on Fast charge?

That sounds plausible alright. Ill check it at 11pm when the boost should kick in, so it should be expecting to draw from the grid then.

IIRC, smart boost will kick in in time for it to complete charge at 8AM, or whatever you set it to. I’d go out and flick it to fast and see what happens.

Yep, looks like that's the problem alright. Nearly 7KW, but still showing as solar, not from grid!
I'm not bothered about it if it's just the display, but I'd imagine this could screw up how the Zappi decides how and when to charge?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,822 ✭✭✭stimpson

It’s pretty straightforward. You need to move the cables from the CT2 terminal to CT1. Make sure to turn the unit off completely before you open it.

Or get the installer back if you’re not 100% sure what you’re doing.

Looks like the clamp is wired to point 2 (generation) instead of 1 (house).

House figure, top right should be showing something if you have a few lights or TV on 0.3 kw or something like that.

    Edit,what stimpson said above...

That's a poor error for someone you're paying well. There's only 2cables to wire up if you don't have any generation!

question- I had somebody quote me including needing an RCBO, isolator. What are these and why do i need them (apologies for the stupid question)?

Ok..I know what they are...but do I need an isolator? and what would people think are a reasonable cost for electrical materials (ex vat).

I estimate I need 1-2 m of cabling (fuse box is on the other side of the external wall to where I need to put in the socket.

I ask as I was given a quote today of around 1250 ex vat, and 10% of that was for Electrical materials.....which i think is a bit high. Power unit was an ABL home charger.

From looking at the Electric Ireland site, I think I could get similar installed for around 750 Eur ish. So this quote was taking the p*ss right?

Loopy quote, pre the grants I got mine installed for around €700 including a priority switch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,822 ✭✭✭stimpson

I’m a bit outside my comfort zone here, but the Zappi needs neither Priority switch nor RCBO. My spark was a bit iffy about it. After a long discussion he wanted to install a priority switch at cost so I rang the Zappi support line. He had a long chat with the lad in support and was happy to fit without RCBO or priority switch. The fact that it has an integral RCD and that we tested the current limiting with the electric shower were what swung it. Total cost to fit was €170, although he was doing other work here at the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭deegs

    Got mine done yesterday.
    Zappi €600 (bought myself)
    15m 6mm power cable, 20m cat6 data cable, rcbo, €80 (bought myself)
I drilled the holes, cut out the walls and fitted conduit.
Electrician connected, signed off, installed rcbo and tested in 2 hours for €100

    Total 180 after grant

Serious rip off republic with these charger installs.....
Go with a local spark and educate them.... Don't waste your money on the most expensive in Ireland....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,154 ✭✭✭spakman

Fair play to you, but i know nothing about electrics so wouldn't dream of messing with them. Doesn't leave much choice but to go with the price they're asking for unfortunately 😪

Can somebody educate me on what the Harvi would be needed for? I had somebody tell me i need one. I thought Zappi had the monitoring tech inside it?

My fuse box is a standard 63a & i have 20a fridge freezer rcbo/10a rcbo + the rest of the usual rcbos

A CT clamp comes in the box, this monitors energy use in the house, wire has to be pulled from fuse board to the zappi (along with the power).
The harvi is an optional wireless version of the CT clamp.
