    Or maybe she does do well enough, but they won't draw out each question. She's doing really well so far.

    No he didn't.

    He said "I think D IS (ie is climbed) but I'm not 100% sure"

    Clarkson relayed exactly what he said.

    No he isn't and this is the problem with Clarkson. He seems to be there for his own entertainment. Tarrant was charming but was subtle in his charm and wit and utmost professional, Clarkson treats the show like a chat show.

    I don't like Clarkson at all but I think in this case he was right to clarify what the friend said. It was a bit confusing even when you were sitting at home so I can see how she picked it up wrong. Her intention was to go with what the phone-a-friend said, so it would have been awful if she mistakenly thought he meant the other one.

    Clarkson did his job as host and nothing more.

    He didn’t hint at an answer either way, he just confirmed for her what the phone a friend had said.

    I’m surprised that she’s never even heard of Scaffel Pike before though. It is the highest mountain in England (3 peaks challenge is to climb the highest mountains in England, Scotland and wales within 24 hours all for charity)

    Bloody London elite, no idea of the world outside their city!

    It is not up to him to guide the contestant to an answer though. It isn't Oprah, it isn't a give away show, it is a game show and there are rules to the game.
    It would have been interesting to see whether he would have guided her if the answer he gave was wrong and Clarkson knew, so by default if he guided her and told her exactly what he said she would have got the question wrong, but if he left her to her own devices (ie mistaking the callers answer with Clarkson not clarifying her mistake) she would have then got it right.

    Clarkson knew that answer and he desperately tried to backtrack a bit when he realised he was helping her.

    The phone a friend is literally that. You say her intention was to go with the answer he gave (or she thought he gave). So Clarkson essentially changed her intention. What if he had clarified the conversation to her and the answer "the friend" gave was wrong so basically Clarkson changes her intention to the wrong answer? Would you be happy with that?

    Clarkson is getting far too involved in the show and the questions and it is going to blow up in controversy one day.
