No, you can have a mixture of Visas and Mastercards, both virtual and physical, on the one account. It's just that all standard physical cards issued since late last year have been Visas.

That's really odd then. My physical card is definitely a MasterCard.

It might be because I now live in NI?

Or maybe they're switching back to 100% MasterCard again, given that there's no sign of them implementing Google Pay support for their Visas.

    Last Friday.

This might be a stupid question, but do the banks charge for withdrawals to this card?
I use my debit card to top up my account within the app. No fees and instant.

There's a charge for credit card and bank transfer is not instant.
Just the standard. My physical card is MasterCard and my virtual card is VISA. I thought both were the meant to be the same card.

You have 2 cards on your account so. 1 Mastercard and 1 Visa. 2 different numbers.

I've ended up with a physical Mastercard, physical Visa and virtual Visa.

I only have my usual physical card unfrozen (obviously this can also be used online).

The others, I occasionally use if a website might be a bit dodgy. It's great to set a budget on the card for just over the amount you're spending (in case of currency fluctuations). Then they can't take anymore. If the item has been paid for, I then either freeze the card again or reduce the budget on it for the next month.

If I request a replacement physical card will it still be MasterCard since that's what I currently have?

Only if its the premium account. The default now is visa.

Not since PSD2 came in. You can use Revolut to get an interest free cash advance on your credit card if you want, I try to avoid it though as it costs them money.

Folks, I'm trying to think what the best way to send money to a UK based paypal account is? They can only take payment via paypal and the agreed price was £180. This works out at €208 on Paypal or €199 on Revolut's exchange rate.

How would I go about using my revolut card for this? Would I reg the card on my paypal account, then do a EUR-UK exchange so I've £180 at a good EUR rate? Would it be fruitless since Paypal will be taking from a EUR card anyway, or is there a way to get a better price I wonder? :)

Has anyone elses card not arrived?

Got notification that card was sent about 2 weeks ago. Checked the app and says it should have arrived and can reorder if not received by the 15th.

No sign of mine yet either. Have it frozen in the app. apart from when I'm actually using it. Will give it until the end of the week and contact them then.

Thanks, added the revolut card. Had to allow online transactions. Now I just have to wait for a verification code.

Be careful Paypal doesn't convert for you, they can be sneaky like that so it's easy to miss.

    Thanks for that :)

I still haven't seen the code on revolut, actually, I think there might be an issue as when I click the "statement" button on any of the transactions, nothing happens, but the other two buttons work, is this the same for anyone else?

It doesn't seem like the advice on that link is relevant anymore since PayPal has updated, I can't find them options so am left with having to just pay in EUR and let PayPal do the conversion, so I don't think using Revolut will be any advantage in that case :(

I think you get the code from the bank statement of the card you topped up with. It's nearly two years since I signed up though so I could be wrong.

Thanks for the input, but this was related to verifying the Revolut card on PayPal, not verifying a card I'm adding to revolut :)

Seems there may not be much point putting the Revolut card on paypal though as my post above, there doesn't seem to be a way to not get PayPal to do the currency conversion?!

The only way to do this I think is to set up a separate PayPal UK account and add your Revolut card to that. I added my Revolut card to an existing PayPal UK account I had and it's working fine, even though the addresses obviously don't match up.

Awh damn, I might look into that in future, but a bit too much effort for the minute! Thanks for the info!

EDIT: actually, OmegaGene, would you know that link please if it can be done?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,374 ✭✭✭Thephantomsmask

When I use PayPal on mobile, it has a blue link saying conversion options under the figure. Clicking that let's me change from PayPal conversion to allowing card issuer to handle it. It may be different on a computer.

As I've been trying this with sending money to a friend, I was thinking maybe the option only appears when making a purchase from a store that offers paypal, but I just tested with a UK store with paypal option to pay and still the same, no options to choose conversion method!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,863 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Wow, rang through to paypal... the conversation went something like this:

    .....
Me: was there not the option to use a different conversion before?
    Him: There's none sir
Me: But was there one before?
    Him: There's none sir
Me: No, I mean was the option there before?
    Him: There's none sir
Me: Ok, there's no option now... but I mean was there such an option previously?
    Him: There's none sir

He then went on to tell me the PayPal conversion rate is lower than the banks

I've recently made a few payments through paypal in different currencies and it always went through to Revolut in the seller's currency, maybe the option is moved to checkout now?

Yeah, that should still be possible for making purchases through Paypal but for loading your PayPal wallet to send money to another person, I don't think it was ever possible?

I did a test checkout on a UK site that accepts paypal and didn't see the option there either :(

Where did the conversion end up being done?

I got as far as the "PAY NOW" stage, but didn't click that, but there was no option to change currency conversion option along the way!
