JJH is a good squad player. Definitely worth hanging onto. He's talented, covers multiple positions and can kick. But he's not going to be a strong option at outhalf in the long term. We've all seen enough at this point. He has had about 30 starts at outhalf for Munster and plenty more appearances from the bench. If he hasn't been able to consistently show he's the man for the job in that time, he's not going to now. He has progressed very little as a player in the past 5 years.

With Carbery now in the hot seat, he's not going to get any significant run of games at 10 either for the foreseeable future.

Carberry will be playing less and less with Munster over the next few seasons. He is the heir apparent to Sexton and how many games does Sexton play on a normal season with Leinster.....

Having a player like JJ will be critical to Munster. Most 10's only play their best rugby in late 20's/early 30's, so it is JJ prime coming up now

Time people seen the positives in players and not run them down at every chance....guy get MoM at weekend and was delighted, wouldnt take long to suck it out of him if he read the posts on here.....

Johnston is very promising but given his injury record there may be a long term approach being taken. I hope he can stamp his authority during the RWC.

JJ has had 1 European start at 10 for Munster, 1.

I hope he’s given the chance to back it up in a much more hostile environment against a team that might actually try a play a bit of rugby.

    This.

JJH is not going to be a long term starter and if Carbery and/or Johnston work out he doesn't need to be.

I agree that he's probably reached his ceiling. He didn't work out to the level his initial appearances may have promised but he's a valuable piece to hold onto.

    Nobody is saying otherwise though.

He's a decent squad player to have, can play 10, 12 or 15 reasonably well and apparently he'll still be at the top of his game when he's 36...

But the idea that he hasn't been given a fair shake is nonsense.

If that statistic is correct then that is fairly shocking.....

he gets one game, gets MoM and probably wont be seen for rest of season

Similar to Williams, did he ever appear again after the match against Exeter?

It’s right, had 20 odd games in Europe for us, most were as a sub or if he started it was at 12.

If Carbery is fit he starts. I don't know why it's even being discussed. You don't leave an international 10 on the bench in a crucial game in the hope that Hanrahan can back up a good game.

Oh he's been given a fair shake and at two clubs too.

There's a weird infatuation for JJH. He's a half decent player, but he's nowhere near as good as his U20 days made him out to be.

He had a good game with ball in hand vs Castres, but some of his kicking from hand was ropey. I don't think he can run a game to a high standard from 10, but there's also a backlog of centres in Munster to give him a run there, and Haley covering that 15 spot.

He showed at Northampton he wasn't able to get in front of Myler or Mallinder, Keatley was keeping him out of the starting spot before he left, and he couldn't nail down the starting spot last season either.

This. JJ is fine. He’s had one good game.
He’s had plenty of chances and been alright at best.

Joey is our starting 10, JJ is a decent back up when needed. That’s it.

Bit baffled by this post. JJ has had plenty of other opportunities at Pro14 level and that'll inform selection as much as one MoM display. (Not to mention the coaches who see the players day-in day-out in training). It seems fairly obvious that Carbery is our starting 10 when fit.

And for the last statement, are you suggesting he should be starting ahead of Murray??

For those of you hitting to the return fixture this weekend

FAO @Munsterrugby @MRSC16 @MRSCLondon supporters travelling to France this weekend. There is an anti gilets jaunes movement called the red scarves. To be on the safe side, if you are anywhere near gilets jaunes protesters, it might be a good idea to remove your Munster scarf.

Zebo currently top of the pile of Midol's list of signings of the season so far. 7 tries in 11 games. Big loss to us, and Ireland (despite what many on here would say). Guy is a natural finisher.

Paddy Jackson (and Julian Savea) have been named among the flops of the season

Yes. What a torrid year it has been without the Zeebs.

They should move Heaven and Earth to get him back. It would be lovely to have a real finisher on the team.

How long did he sign for? - 2 years?

It's an awful shame Ireland doesn't have someone with a decent strike rate, we could really do with someone who scores a try in almost every international game he plays.

He'll most likely stay a little longer than 2 years... personally I think his chances of coming back to Munster are less than 50/50 ...he's loving the game over there and family have settled well

He said many many years ago he would move to France. They had a BT interview at the weekend with him, wasn't really listening to it but he was in a house with Russell...not sure if they lived together or could have just been for the camera's....Russell saying it was easy for Zebo as he was fluent in French

All mickey-taking apart, Zebo would still be a very useful squad player to have, but that's it at the moment.

I like Zebo but think there's a bit of a grass is greener attitude now that he's gone. He's playing well to be fair to him but he wasn't in that form when he left. I'd still welcome him back to Munster but not sure that's something he wants and even if he does not sure he'd make Ireland squad with the depth in talent we have.

Maybe Farrell might have a word with him and persuade him he's in his plans post wc with Kearney and Earls winding down, I think him finishing his career in France is still the most likely outcome.

He has done the hard part now and moved, I don't expect he has much interest in going back

No harm to Munster but he is now in one of the top squads in europe. Watching them play at weekend reminded me of Toulon when they have they won everything.....

How many seasons was he at Munster? how many trophies has he got?

Racing's style and plan seems to suit him, the stadium ensures it's dry, and he seems to be enjoying life there. I don't think he'll be coming back.

Farrell is out of the match on Saturday and Carberry is still being assessed could possibly be without both.

Chris Farrell suffered a quadriceps muscle strain and is set to miss Saturday’s game against Castres

    Better news here:

Stephen Archer will resume team training today and Tommy O’Donnell, Stephen Fitzgerald, Jean Kleyn and Liam O’Connor will begin reintegration to team training.

"Begin reintegration to team training" doesn't suggest they will be available for Saturday but it's great to get them back for the interpros.

Yup that's what it seemed like alright.Short enough turnaround between away to Castres on Saturday and away to Ulster next Friday so they might be in the picture for that

Kleyn would be a huge addition, great to see LOC back he's had a long lay off.
