Had family round this morning so I made a bacon and spinach frittata, along with 3 pepper slaw, flat topped mushrooms and cheese scones. Finished with a very easy desert of filo pastry baskets filled with marscapone and berries.

Made these yesterday. Some drop scones with berries from the freezer done in a saucepan with sugar.

    Potato cake with poached eggs

Looks a bit of a mess granted - took my eye off the poached eggs - but very tasty. And easy.

Leftover mash (potatoes boiled with garlic and rosemary), add dried mint, sage, basil and rosemary. Two parts basil and rosemary to one part sage and mint. Bit of salt and pepper. Mix up, fry for a few mins on either side.

Added a bit of scallion and radish. Eggs on top, bit of sumac sprinkled on them with some hot sauce.

Sauteed a few qtrd mushrooms in butter and a splash of red wine vinegar, spoonful of baked beans and an over easy fried egg.

Finished off with a slice of granary bread toasted with butter.

Beat a greasy fry up hands down too.

Christmas always starts with a decent breakfast.

Pork and spring onion sausages (these are absolutely delicious) from my local butchers (his own recipe) grilled.

    Whiskey smoked rashers, also grilled.

Eggs scrambled in butter and cream, not good for the cholesterol I imagine, but its Christmas morning.

Mushrooms sauteed in a bit of butter, with salt and pepper.

Freshly baked baguette, split and buttered.

We don't use a lot of butter in this house, actually made the trip to the shops specifically to pick it up (to make cookies for the big man in red with the kids) but you can absolutely tell the difference in the real stuff and the faux stuff.

Anyway, it's all been devoured, with a big mug of tea.

Now, off to take the dog on his Christmas morning walk.

Happy Christmas everyone, from the Dogs household to yours.

Was asked to do pancakes again this morning, but unfortunately this was the problem:

But after it googling, we had everything to make our own batch of nutella, so...

^ Where did you buy your Palm Oil?

I am now convinced that chocolate companies are the true spawn of Satan. Along with breakfast cereals that is.

Bake them in a muffin tin with a tablespoon of water.

Or the boil water, swirl water, drop in egg option always works for me.

Small pot, about 3in of hot water, turn the heat on under the pot. Crack two eggs in and leave them while the water comes to a simmer and lift the eggs out gently when the white has set nicely. Couldn’t be easier, honestly! I don’t find the vinegar/swirl method makes enough of a different to be honest.

I also do them in the microwave when in work. Mug that’s about half full of hot water. Crack an egg in and cover with a saucer and in to the microwave for 20seconds. Take it out, flip the egg in the water and then put it back in at 10’second bursts until done. This takes much more practice to get right but it’s handy for the office!
