Your beloved Sweden has people start paying income tax at 1600 euro, we dont start paying here till 16,000 euro.

Those same people you claim are in poverty in Sweden would be paying taxes..... ranging from 7%-32% depending on a multitude of factors

It's fascinating that you suddenly become caring for the poor, perhaps you see how half the workforce here are struggling.

If that figure is true, it just shows how a just society Sweden has become where the poorest can afford to pay that amount of income tax. Here, the poor which according to your link is half the workforce ,are far worse off and susceptible to deeper poverty by a tax hike. The higher standard of living even for the poorest in Sweden is in contrast to the lower standard of living here. Proof that socialism works in Sweden (and other Scandi countries)

Just because someone can charge extortionate rents, doesn't mean they have to. They choose to, because they're greedy f*cks with no sense whatsoever of social responsibility.

Just like the same greedy f***s who game the system.

    How much?

Is Barry’s mug shot on it.

LOL the blanket assumptions you make is just astounding, level of income is not in any way an accurate measure of poverty. There are so many variables involved its ridiculous that you allow your bias to make such ignorant statements.

It's also fascinating to me the logical leaps you will make to pretend your opinions aren't constantly being shown to be devoid of any logical or factual basis.

According to some homeless and other charities, there are many thousands of us living in poverty. My family included. However, I don’t see myself as poor. I’ve always lived within my means. My children didn’t go without EVER, let alone at Christmas. They learned the difference between what they needed and what they wanted. I don’t live beside my job, shops or family.

We CARE for each other and are rightly peed off when we see others expecting to be handed pretty much for nothing what they could provide for themselves.

You're some saint Maryanne, it has be said.

I am paying for myself. Worked at weekends from age 13 which was illegal at the time, but what the heck. And then the Summers in the local hospitals.

Bought my house for 24k at the time. The area is mightily sought after now.

Go out there, save your money and do what is best for you. Each to their own.

Some like to be self reliant. I salute my lovely parents for this ethic.

I know it is different now, but at the time, back in the day, it was tough too.

I see lovely apartments been handed out like candy to our poor vulnerable members of society today in D24!!!

Working couples could only dream of such luxuries.

Unequal society is right just not the way Richard Boyd Barrett waffles on about.

Wouldn't you think that self-professed "socialists" like Coppinger, Smirker and Barry (to name but three of the breed) who claim only to draw the minimum wage from their TDs' salaries could afford to hand out free copies of Mick's scribblings to their impoverished fellow protesters?

Presumably Mick has obtained the artist's tax exemption for his minor work of fiction so won't be liable for income tax on any profits that he made on sales!

I see Peter McVerry Trust has income of €24,000,000. With €9,000,000 being donated. Does the other 15 million come from the taxpayers? How much does it cost to raise the 9 million? How many people would lose their jobs if this 15 million was used to actually BUILD homes?

Homelessness is a total industry now. So many industries and so little to show for it. But they are all telling us it is a disaster, well they have to don't they? Otherwise they are defunct.

But they should be wishing to be defunct really. But no, on it goes.

There will be no end to homelessness because that would be the end of the gravy train for all those myriad of homeless "charities" and their CEOs and employees wouldn't it?

Same applies to the refugee industry too, who also need housing, and woe is me, they cannot access housing either. On we go again.

It's really not that much for a CEO, it's actually quite low for a position at that level

True but its the large number of charity CEOs in that area. How many donations does it take to fund them all?

€94,535, plus a salaried allowance of €104,601. A fair bit more in practice.

Very interesting that finally a politician with a backbone stands up and speaks the truth:
"The idea that you're paying huge rent one week and then you're paying zero rent the next week. It's going to give to perverse incentives, with the best will in the world," Mr McGinley told the Irish Independent last night.
"They're putting people in hotels and B&Bs and not charging them a cent. What do you think is going to happen in that situation? Word gets out.
    That man gets my vote.

Depends on the organisation and industry though. Salaries in the charity sector are taking money away from those who they are supposed to be supporting. Charity and religion, the later in the US more so, are greats ways to make lots of money.

I know for a fact this is 100% true.

I know a girl whos parents have a 3 bed council house with 2 rooms unoccupied. She decided to stay with her child in the Regency instead and was given her own place
