the Casey result seems to suggest we need a more right wing party in this country

I have felt for a long time that we are running the country to suit the minority concerns while
the majority are put upon and ignored while paying super tax, high vat, high transport costs and medical insurance

Not at all. We have gone too far left away from the middle. Readjustment is required back to middle. We need better use of our taxes and accountability.

Haha, yeah they said they vastly prefer a life-long socialist to a tax-exile whose only notable feature is disliking travelers.

Sorry Tayto...can't let yet another misrepresentation pass.
That was in response to PP dropping the 'winning' outright odds. How did those punters get on? The ones who were cajoled/conned into thinking he had a chance? See any of them collecting winnings?

Ah Francie I see you are back
I don't gamble anyway, a bird in the hand is better than two on the bush.

Maybe he should do what Sean Gallagher should've done after last time. Step away and enjoy the heights of coming 2nd. He'll never top this.

Do you not think it’s the parents responsibility to worry about their innocent children? Are they concerned about shelter, food, clothes or an income when they’re expelling a child from their crotch every year? Don’t you think people should be allowed worry about themselves and their own families before taking on the responsibility of a child with two parents of its own?

What parents "should" do is irrelevant when they are layabouts/drunks/scumbags. Innocent kids should not be suffering because their loser parents are not facing up to their responsibilities. Many here would clearly love to "teach" the parents a lesson by allowing the kids to suffer. The parents don't care about anything but their next fix (usually of alcohol or gambling). They are not, by any definition, good parents so expecting responsibility from such people is very idealistic.

If Irish people wonder how Irish society could have abandoned so many children to all that neglect and abuse in the 1950s and 60s, they really don't have to look too far in After Hours to see people supporting sacrificing kids in 2018 to lives of abuse and neglect.

smoked-salmon socialist of at least 15 years standing would be far, far more accurate. You're correct about the wannabe Trump guy, though.

Michael d in his speech says he is an independent candidate .
Not long ago when it suited him he was a labour man.
A cute whore/ a champagne socialist if ever there was one .
He is in his element giving a speech about helping the worse off in society, before he throws his party in the Arus .

23% from 1% who’d have thought it. Absolutely delighted. The full reaction is yet to come hopefully,

Another seven years of horsesh1t like we just heard and no real action. I'd say Kevin McCarthy is at home preparing the Champange and the prawn sandwiches.... and probably warming up the sauna as well.

Given that the centre has moved a long, long way to the right since, say, 1980 (when Labour was actually a working class party, for instance) and the rich are far, far richer (than the middle class) in Ireland than the rich were in the same year it's an impressive reflection of the brainwashing going on that somebody would declare we need to be more rightwing.

Growing inequality is on the rise

The real story of the election is almost a quarter of the electorate supporting Casey, even after the Taoiseach came out and made an unprecedented statement encouraging people not to vote for him. Many people have had enough of punitive taxation and endless welfare entitlements. There's a clear demand for change.

Livid here listening to that low sized windbag going into full flowery mode.

Pure waffle in that 'speech' vaccuos rhetoric of Mom and Apple Pie politics
and faux concern for the working person.

Cannot understand how the electorate were taken in by that lad.

    Beggars belief.

If that’s the description of the parents then they have no business reading a child and the child should be placed in state care where they have a better opportunity and chance at life

And those 'parents' are well aware of that ,mate, and not afraid to game the issue

His height has nothing to do with anything. Reflects on you more than anyone.

As for Michael D, he's not my cup of tea but who did you honestly expect the electorate to vote for?

    It was a dreadful ballot.

No one here wants to see a kid suffer.
If kids are suffering as a result of a parents failure, they should be taken off the parents and put into care. Maybe try and break the cycle of next fix/delinquency/criminality. Youre right, why should the kids suffer, and the state just shrug, and pick up the tab.
