Be interesting to see how reflective of public opinion AH is. How many votes will Casey get.

The polls for the 8th and gay marriage were representative enough, but I don't think that will be the case with this.

Does anyone know when the IT exit poll is likely to be released?

Both that and the RTE one just after 10.

Just looking at RTÉ news coverage it looks like Gavin Duffy was depositing his vote in a shredder and Joan Freeman was sticking it into a photocopier.

Be ready for a strange result.

What would be a strange result?

I gave no scratch to the chancer Casey, and hope to God that we don't follow the US by electing an extremely wealthy self server, just because he done enough of us into thinking that hes anti establishment.

Yes, to the removal of blasphemy.

    Michael D. is a multimillionaire.

And you'll tell him again, unless he's changed the timeline.

anyone who hasnt voted, please get out and do so for Casey! The entertainment it will provide now and for the next few years will be fantastic, versus the boring hobbit!

There are debates that need to be had out and the establishment dont want that! They have it all their own way now! A resounding vote for Peter casey would send out a message. This bull**** about would you wear a poppy, how did you vote on the 8th, to be honest, highly divisive and personal issues.

Why dont they ask about the gross incompetence effecting hundreds of thousands on areas that will receive far more consensus? the housing farce, health, broadband? the outrageous welfare state, how they manage to keep these pretty much off the agenda here with the assistance of the media, is pretty incredible! Law and order, doesnt exist in this country either and they are talking about a ****ing poppy and a ****ed up grey area?! Do one you rats!

Why not bring up those far more straight forward and urgent issues?!

I assume you gave your No 2 to Dustin?

Sure no President has any competency regarding any of the those topics. It's just a ludicrous beauty contest for ugly people.

also this what can peter casey do about these issues, he is a joe soap citizen like us at the moment and him uttering a few lines, telling the truth, has already opened up a can of worms for the government!

Raising the issues will put pressure on them, no pressure can be put on those rats, if not a SINGLE bloody candidate represents the workers of this country in the DAIL!!!

You're guys are getting awfully worked up over this. Are you afraid that when people go out to vote, having come in from their hard working jobs all day, that they'll vote for Michael D?

Are you afraid that the rigged online polls won't reflect the overall result?

Don't forget to tell people to vote for renua btw.

i only hope something is finally done about the travelling gangs
it's a small number of people and they are terrorising the countyside, especially the old, isolated, vulnerable,
maybe with Big Pete watching them now they will make some fukkin effort

Probably because those questions are not in any way relevant to the presidency.

Anyway, like any sensible person, I voted for Michael D. Higgins. My second and third preferences went to Ní Riada and Freeman - both may have their faults, but at least they're not overconfident 'entrepreneurs' who think that appearing on a reality TV show is a sufficient qualification to become head of state.

I was torn on the blasphemy issue. On the one hand, voting Yes would annoy pricks like Ronan Mullen. On the other hand, voting No would annoy pricks like Atheist Ireland. Was sorely tempted to just draw a picture of the prophet Muhammad fellating our blessed saviour, Jesus Christ on the ballot paper, but just voted Yes in the end.

we dont need more bull****ters in government, like MDH. The entire country is a farce, because of the "quality' of what we have to choose from. Poets, teachers, whatever else, no wonder the place is f*cked!

    President - no 1 Casey
because one 7 year term in an honorific position is long enough for any one person, other people should have a go, especially since that is how Higgins declared he would do it originally - he has a certain air of entitlement that is unappealing. Voted for Casey because the others were utterly bland and unremarkable, and he has a bit of character about him. I like disruptors even if I disagree with them.

Blasphemy - No. On the grounds that the European Court of Human Rights has just effectively supported blasphemy laws protecting Islam and I feel the same protection should be maintained in place here for all other religious denominations.

Calm down. Look at the exit polls. Casey winning on the first count. More votes than all the others combined. 22% victory.

The only way that can change is if people go out and vote.

Think this is going to be a real indicator of where places like After Hours and the Journal comment section stand in relation to the Irish public.

You should always fill it down for feck sake. Unless you have no preference between the others.

I didn't want my vote to go to anyone else. What a collection, other than Higgins.

I did the exact same. She seems harmless, wants to help people and I’d love to see her get her deposit back.

whatever about the journal and after hours, pretty evident the country is left leaning... world class benefits and the a 'boom time" budget that gives less than a euro a week to those on E30,000 good to know the wasters who have never worked a day in their lives are getting a fiver a week though.

any one other banana republic where this would fly?!
