Did they spend a gross or net amount?

    No sympathy for them.

They spent the average amount. They haven’t announced what tier of average it was yet though.

As a man in his 30s/40s (I'm presuming), it's perhaps time to move on from twisting others' words for 'hilarious' effect. And, if I'm correct, YOU were the one lamenting the apparent absence of what you termed "serious debate", no?
Oh no, I've abandoned any hope of serious discussion on AH. It was a great 17 years, but it's over now. I go elsewhere to find people willing to actually discuss stuff with facts and honest answers.

I was asked a question, and I responded honestly. I didn't attack or insult or denigrate anyone, just told it as I see it. That's a virtue you guys love, right?

A flood of people then queued up to dispute it and unintentionally and rather amusingly provided an in-place demonstration of my observations.

    Have a great weekend folks.

    #1 Michael D
    #2 Joan Freeman
    #3 Duffy

I gave no scratch to the chancer Casey, and hope to God that we don't follow the US by electing an extremely wealthy self server, just because he done enough of us into thinking that hes anti establishment.

Yes, to the removal of blasphemy.

Now you know how Peter Casey felt.

because the voting pattern is vote for someone who says things that I secretly think but havent the balls to say. in the government elections, you keep voting in the same people who make the same changes to social welfare etc that you so hate, but then complain about it anyway and elect someone like casey as president as 'he says it like it is'. If this was america - ye's would be trump voters.

In fairness Mac, people are saying it. Its the politicians who aren't. If Casey makes some sort of impact perhaps some other TDs might step forward.

Trump has power, Irish President has none. Huge difference.

There is no viable alternative to the government we have.

MDH will win on the back of the urban vote but PC will come 2nd on the back of a strong rural vote.

And a lot of people I know will be richer given the generous 2nd place odds last week. Party time!!

I take issue with the myth that urban voters are more discerning than rural voters, which is what I believe is being implied.

There are very large populations of Irish people living in our cities who are very insular, you only need to look at both the wealthy areas and deprived areas to witness that insularity, there is a fairly large percentage of voters living in rural Ireland who are much more urban than those who like to think themselves as an urban voter!

I don't believe in one person, one vote. People should have more votes than others by proving their value to society and demonstrating that they actually understand what it is they are voting for.

I voted for Peter Casey #1 and gave no other votes. I was actually voting for Michael but since peter finally called it as he sees it and said what most of us think. To be honest as well i am sick of all this PC nonsense. I also voted Yes to the Blasphemy law.

Casey is currently 8/15 -MD. Is that better of worse than he started today?

Low turnout is not good for MDH and I'm now convinced Casey will poll much better than currently expected.

Reports of a very high turnout at one polling station in Thurles, that will be an interesting set of tallies.

MDH has himself to blame for that as he really treated the campaign with disinterest and disrespect himself.

The usual 'evening bounce' will occur after 7pm probably.

    Terrible idea.

I just don't like that people can vote however they want and for whatever reason they want.

Maybe they should just run their vote by their local fg/ff rep just to make sure they're doing it right. Would that suffice?

I just don't like that people can vote however they want and for whatever reason they want.

That’s the literal definition of democracy.

Be interesting to see how reflective of public opinion AH is. How many votes will Casey get.

If MDH loses it will be a spectacular own goal by him and his campaign team.
