We've all grown up enjoying wrestling and wrestlers for a multitude of reasons. Their larger than life characters, their charisma and their crazy storylines. An often forgotten but fondly remembered element of these were the managers. These sometimes devious, sometimes comic individuals could make you cheer or boo that extra bit more and invest you further into what was going on. We're going to see who you think was the best of them all as we look to crown and see who is the greatest manager of the modern era.

    1. All bouts in Round 1 are first to three votes.
    2. Please give reasons for your answers.
    3. All draws are made at random using a number generator.

    The Brain for me.

    Reasons?

He's Bobby Heenan basically up against a hair stylist.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

Has to be Robert "The cerebellum" Heenan for me.

Had it all, and acted like a manager should, even when on commentary. He followed canon, knew what the business was all about, and how to get the reactions he wanted.

    Early pick for winner here

    Bobby Heenan.

Repeat this for every round until he wins.

    Nobody else comes close.

Bobby Heenan do I really need to say any more.

As expected, The Brain saunters through unscathed. A real mismatch. Let's see if our next bout throws up something a little more competitive.
    Francine

Francine who played a key role in ECW as a manager to some of the companies biggest names.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

Stacey for me, purely because I have no knowledge of Francine's management experience in ECW

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

    Francine

stacey was pretty forgettable as a manager

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

I'll give my vote to Francine too. Wasn't afraid to mix it up and took her fair share of bumps. Also was a manager in a truer sense whereas Stacey was more of a valet IMO.

The Queen of Extreme goes into Round 2 at the expense of Ms Kiebler. Our next match has strong ECW roots but I fear it's gonna be a very one sided affair.

    Heyman here

    A great manager for Brock,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,417 ✭✭✭WinnyThePoo

Heyman for his work with Cesaro ;). I honestly don't know who the other guy is.

Heyman must go down as one of the best promo's the modern business has ever had.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,976 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

Assuming they're on the opposite side of the bracket, Heyman will be the likely finalist with Heenan.

Honourable mentions to JJ Dillon, Jim Cornette, Mr. Fuji, and Jimmy Hart.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,477 ✭✭✭brianregan09

    Heyman obviously

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Assuming they're on the opposite side of the bracket, Heyman will be the likely finalist with Heenan.

It's a random draw each round so they could meet at any stage.

On we go with our next bout.
    Paul Bearer

Can't say no to Sunny. Just can't.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,477 ✭✭✭brianregan09

Paul Bearer , shes known more for her backstage shananigans than actually being a manager

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

Sunny for me. Bearer might have had bigger boobs, but nobody was better with tag teams in mid /late 90s wwf than Sunny

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

    Paul

    I think hes more iconic

Got to be Sunny for me too.

She elevated any one she managed which is a managers job.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 51,124 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

    Yeah Paul Bearer for me.

    OHHHHHH YEESSSSSS!
Big part of the 90s as a manager.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Well it's the timing that can decide these things and it's mere seconds that sends the iconic Paul Bearer packing at the first hurdle. I'd consider that an upset. Let's see what's up next...

Ill go dutch dont remember teddy being a manager at all

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,511 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

    Dutch.

Btw I realise that we need to give the tournament a look of credibility but ffs Sir Robert of Hernan is in it. Case closed end of game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 60,339 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Teddy for being manager of Doom.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,511 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

I mean not only was heenan a brilliant commentator who was sharp as you like but he managed multiple worlds champions(not that the WWF ever mentioned it) he's the greatest manager ever.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

Dutch for me. Never really seen Teddy manage other than Rodney Mack etc

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional West Moderators Posts: 6,773 Mod ✭✭✭✭connemara man

Dutch for me he somehow got Jack Swagger over and I can't really remember teddy

Dirty Dutch beats out Theodore R Long in a decent tussle. We go old school for our next bout. First to three advances.
