That’s the nicest colour and wheel combination on the golf R in my opinion.
    Looking forward to review.
Would it be a contender for your next car?

Those paddles look after market. What year is the car? I presume it's 2nd hand?

    Edit...just seeing it's a 181.

Boot too small, cost too high but in another period of my life, yes! A G30 530d is hard to look past especially with the price of them from the U.K.

OMG Mark - that's the very car that was to be mine that I cancelled, back in January!

The guy who actually bought it must have moved it on again...

So what's my car like then? :pac:

P.S. I know that the guy who had it did a few silly mods like cutting the exhaust (res delete), so that might also explain why you're finding it noisy ;)

There’s only 2,000kms on it? Ya sure it’s the one?!

    Absolutely certain.

Wow, he didn’t use it all that much!

You coming for a spin so?! Love the seats, what was it priced at when you ordered?

RRP, about 55.5k! I suppose Keane’s are looking for around 47k now?

I’d love to drive it, would probably only piss me off!!

Personally love lapiz blue. Have this two months love it. As described brutal power and grip.
Not easy on the fuel (Dont care). Driving it hard is takes a bit of getting used to as its Unreal how it can gain speed.
No dcc which doesn't bother me as I've never had it before. Ride is frim but, the plus side it feels totally planted .
Only thing I'd liked to have had would be the pan roof. But feck all Irish cars have it .

Wonder why he offloaded it so soon? Attention from the wrong type of person?

He changes cars frequently and I don't think he warmed to the R.

Sorry my bad there’s nearly 12,000kms on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

It nearly looks like LSG in the pictures, but that was never available in the facelift, was it?!?

Re: the soundaktor. It was one of the first "mods" i did to mine with the OBD Eleven. Turned it off and forgot completely about it. It was awful.

No, they dropped LSG for the facelift. It's Indium grey now.

I see you specced adaptive headlights too Joe. Sorry :)

Hmmm, no, I don’t think I did! If you mean the auto dipping main beam, that was standard or was part of the tech pack or whatever it’s called.

Can definitely see the headlight beam move as the steering wheel turns, maybe that’s standard in the Golf xenons/LEDs...

Yeah that’s standard. The turning is actually more pronounced / aggressive in sport / race mode.
There is an expensive adaptive headlights option that uses tricks to trim the main beam around oncoming traffic but I definitely didn’t spec that.

    From memory I spec’d:
    Leather
    Pretoria wheels
    Adaptive chassis
    Keyless
    Dynaudio
    Tech pack
    Darker rear tint

Ah I’m not sure. I’d say no regrets... but then I see Mark’s photos and videos and I start feeling that itch again!

I don’t think I’d have an R again, it was too much and too much of an indulgence for my day to day needs, but I definitely have a hankering for something like a GTI again for sure.

The 4 is great, I really cannot fault it. I had it serviced yesterday and it cost me nothing (service pack). It’s a cheap car to run (depreciation aside!), it’s comfortable, looks good and does the family stuff very well. But it’s not very exciting. I find that I’m not as bothered about it as I was with the Golf. If i was having the Golf serviced, I’d have been fretting, worrying that some monkey would scuff one of the alloys. But I didn’t give the bmw a 2nd thought yesterday. Sure enough, they did a fine job, they even washed it without making a mess of it. But I wasn’t as bothered as I might have been before...

I’m looking at building a house at the moment though so tbh it might be bangernomics for a few years!

How many km's did that get you?

€45 got me less than 300kms, I then stuck another small bit in to get me to today as it’s going back then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 385 ✭✭SaintsYB

Jesus, an R certainly wouldn't be the car for me. I'd be going broke very soon in an R with the amount of driving I do haha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,902 ✭✭✭hooch-85

Hence why i am driving a GTD and not an R or GTi.

Getting 800+kms to a tank, roughly €65 to fill. But yeah, it sounds like a tractor and there's no getting away from that

Ya, in or around 450 to 550 Km’s brim to brim. Maybe 600 if it’s all motorway at 100km/h

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,548 ✭✭✭JoeA3

^^^ Yep that was my experience also. Probably just under the 500km mark for me most of the time as I typically don't do a lot of motorway driving - or stick to 100km/h ;)

500 ish would sound about right. Have gotten 620 on a long drive with the family. 100kph driving. Have had a few 400km too. No hiding it an R is hard on fuel.. bigger tank would be nice. My old 2lt tdi mk7 done about 720 to a tank.
