I felt it was all wrapped up much too tidily and conveniently at the end. Some bits didn’t make much sense. What was the deal with that young lady who Budd drove (in her tasty BMW) to the house for that final confrontation? From that point on, they seemed to be in a rush to wrap it up and all the villains just queued up to confess!

Nice teaser for Line of Duty too!

Thought the whole series was fantastic myself!

    Really enjoyed it!

Although I didn't enjoy the series as a whole, I felt Mercurio redeemed himself by having Budd's female boss and a muslim woman be the main villains in the end.
Quite the departure from the usual PC nonsense on TV. But then again, typical Mercurio.

After all, on Line of Duty, one of the best loved characters is a white man in his late 50s who is so unaware of PC culture that he was reprimanded for calling a black female colleague "darling."

So, great job by Mercurio in that regard.

But the ending of Bodyguard was so neatly wrapped up that I almost began to think it was all in Budd's head.

Having him drive off with his family, full of smiles; it could very well have been the end to an episode of Walker, Texas Ranger. All they needed was for someone to make a cheesy joke, followed by a freeze frame of Budd laughing.

    More like the highlighted

Woeful, last episode, it really lost its way after a solid start.
The acting was really bad in parts too, almost as if they had to do reshoots and were out of time. The two cops, in the park were noticeably bad.

So many facepalm moments too. Walking through London with a bomb, the wife running towards him, the shouting at each other from 10 feet away.

The twist regarding the bomber was cheap too, I felt, especially given she was in hysterics at the beginning, she had no idea Budd would walk in.

The last 10 minutes being like something from Murder She Wrote all it was short was a quick "next time ... let's nip it in the bud", then guffaws and freeze frame.

totally ridiculous but good tension created in fairness.

when he was cutting that last wire.... !

p.s hated that actress who was the Sampson woman - head of the police - bizarre affected mannerisms in her portrayal.

and that last twist about the Nadia woman - totally off the wall.

I agree. "We need to add gravitas to the role so she appears real , let's have her call everyone 'Sarge'".

Good start, dodgy middle, and poor ending.......

I was hoping the Budd family car was going to blow into smithereens in that final shot.

They moved Budd from an office building environment to a residential area, yeah that makes sense

Ah,'twas actually the other one I was referring to!
Although I'm never really sold on McKee in general but she wasn't bad here at all.

The action scenes were tense and well shot other than that the whole series was a big pile of crap.

Rock on the next season of Line of Duty.

So... the October 1st bomber woman built her own bomb and her husband wasn't involved. Then she was hired by "criminals" (opposed to RIPA) to build more bombs and these criminals gave that guy from Hellmund Province the sniper rifle to take out the home secretary and then the security service in concert with some politicians orchestrated the bombing of the home secretary.

And this conspiracy relied upon laying blame upon Budd?

Fairly outlandish but very watchable IMO. Line of Duty jumped the shark in the last episode of series 3 (and series 4 was meh) so I wasn't surprised.

Unfortunately, Netflix only have the broadcast rights to it internationally.

So they'll add all 6 episodes on October 24, but it's only be accessible outside of UK/Ireland catalogue.

I was hoping the Budd family car was going to blow into smithereens in that final shot.

Funnily enough as I was watching I remarked at that point "and then their car blows up !" Would have been a hell of a twist.

Didn't think the conspiracy ultimately made much sense, including the turnaround of the suicide bomber from episode 1, who was clearly terrified at the time. And some big time criminal wants to assassinate the Home Secretary because he's opposed to a piece of legislation, really ?.

The conveyor belt of confessions at the end was quite awful.

Especially when one of the villains trotted out the "it was just business" line.

    Give me a break.

Probably not legally unless a friend video taped it and shows it to you. :p

Anyways, great show badly let down by that strange Hollywood type ending.

Good series but let down by a dodgy last episode.

Why did the criminals attach the bomb to Budd but then allow him roam free and explain to the cops what was going on? (Despite the cops not believing)

Why did Everyone just confess at the end? I think it’s a symptom of Mercurio’s constant use of red herrings and need to utilize twists, he struggles to reconcile it all and wrap up all the loose ends.

In a similar vein, why did they tape his thumb to the dead mans switch, kind of stops a DMS from working?

Was it not so the pressure could be maintained on the switch while he was unconscious?

yeah, but then it isn't a DMS any more, and less of a reason not to just headshot him.

I got to watch the finale this morning. I thought it was terrific. That whole vest sequence was fantastic.

For those who thought it was wrapped up too neatly, this isn't like US network television with a million cliffhangers. They had to wrap it up. This was a thoughtful, self-contained story with a beginning, middle and end. It has to be commended for that. If there was a stupid cliffhanger, you'd have complained even more.

I thought Julia Montague might have been revealed at the end though (that her death was faked to protect her).

I saw something on Facebook yesterday that said some people thought the finale was Islamophobic. I didn't read the details because I hadn't watched the finale yet. Now that I have, I'm rolling my eyes and shaking my head.

Cant help but think of that scene from Gladiator....where Maximus is after slaughtering a load of people in the amphitheatre and he roars “are you not entertained?”

Really enjoyed the show. Also agree on the scene with the vest. I still maintain the opening scene on E1 with the bomb on the train, the attack on the school in E2 we’re amongst the most tense scenes I’ve seen in any TV show.

Happy enough that the show ended all squared off. Mind you we were also half expecting the car to blow up too!

Indeed, a cliffhanger would have been an awful way to end this (presumably) one off series.

But just because there wasn't a cliffhanger doesn't mean the lightweight ending we got was good.

Many great films and TV shows have reached their conclusions without a blatant piece of sequel bait, or without wrapping everything up so neatly that the audience's intelligence is insulted.

I don't think it was lightweight. The whole house of cards came down when Budd survived.

    Nadia's confession was a bit mustache-twirling, I'll give you that. :)

I thought it was a great way to wrap it up by having Budd as the scapegoat and when he wasn't that everyone else was tracked. I didn't like the admission at the end, too convenient but that's only being pedantic really. I've never watched Line of Duty, guess I have to now :D
