    Are you ok ?

No bother on me, what do you think of my word 'vegetard' has a nice ring to it.

    What does it mean ?

Is it an attempt to reuse the word retard in a derogatory fashion ?

    Like ****tard or dicktard ?

    I think it’s pretty disgusting.

    'Retarded vegan'.
So if people follow the line you are pushing what do with we do with the surplus herds of animals?

    Two choices:
    1) Prevent them from breeding and kill them. Either quickly and humanely (sausage factory), or let them suffer the indignity of old age before their natural death.
    2) Let them out in the wild. I would also favor a re-introduction of wolves and bears to keep vegans herbivores in check.

It’s great that some of the input from the many farmers on this forum confirms, for your average member of the public, that farm animals are indeed very intelligent, social and have their own personalities.

This confirmation could help carnists to understand the impact of their choices and make a change so they can truly call themselves animal lovers.

Currently most carnists think they are animals lovers but the truth of their choices is they only love some animals.

lets not go making generalizations there are some animals that are as stupid as a bag of turnips.

lets look at the proper words for describing diet, we have Herbivore , Omnivore and carnivore.

Herbivore is defined as an animal that only eats plants.
Omnivore is defined as an animal eats all kinds of food, including both meat and plants.
Carnivore is defined as an animal that eats meat.

vegans are herbivores and describe themselves that way in an attempt to distinguish themselves from animals.

there is an unofficial definition of carnist as a meater; meat-eater; flesh-food eater; one who consumes animals or any creature that walks-crawls-swims or flys. Which is covered by omnivore and carnivore.

As i was writing the above it seems strange that vegans are using a term to distinguish themselves from animals when there's a suitable one there.
    that and
A vegan is someone who is vegan.

    Disgusting.

So you get to insult? But others can't. Here's another word 'hypocrite'.

Well, not quite, ganmo...everything living on this planet is either an animal or a plant (though apparently there's some dispute over fungi).

There must be very few creatures that are true carnivores?
Some of the big cats perhaps?
Some snakes and probably all spiders?
I've a sheep dog here and he absolutely loves bananas!

My dog's mostly vegan. Some days 100%. And you've never seen a happier, livelier dog. :D

A friend talks about Irish wolfhounds and how they're short-lived (6 or 7 years, apparently) but can live up to 12 on a vegan diet. Something to do with their small heart in relation to their huge bodies. I bumped into someone else who keeps wolfhounds and he said yes, keep them away from meat, it does them no good. These are two separate encounters with people who don't know each other.

He's only allowed one now and again as a treat. (Bananas)
I'd be afraid of him getting too high a potassium level otherwise .

A friend got into cycling fairly seriously, and was eating 6 ir 8 a day.
Was always weak and feeling sick, so went to the doctor.
Ended up on some kind of medication as a result, and can no longer be a blood doner.

Sticking your head in the sand and fingers in your ears while a singing 'lalala' does not an argument make....

The word 'carnist' (sic) does not exist in any standard lexicon reference outside vegan related commentary.

Perhaps you might actually explain where all the 'carnists' were before that word was created by Ms Joy in 1991?

Do you really believe these individuals following this "invisible belief system, or ideology" suddenly winked into existence in a blink of an eye? Really?

Wow. The power of plants. Moderation in everything!

A good explanation to why most carnists are acting without any real awareness or thought.
Would be good to see this taught in primary schools to allow children the chance to step back from current socials norms and make their own choices -
    https://youtu.be/0VrZPBskpg

Thankfully schools don't teach such vegan based fiction as 'carnism' (sic)

We could also promote lots of other belief systems in shools such as Mormonism or National socialism and allow them "to make their own choices"

Keeping a dog on a vegan diet is nothing short of abuse.

maybe i didn't explain well enough.
Herbivore is used to describe animals that eat plants only
Vegans are animals that only eat plants so why not call themselves herbivores?

you're right fungi are neither plant or animal as but there are many living things that are none of those
675px-Phylogenetic_tree.svg.pngI've known herbivore animals to eat mushrooms so I'm not sure why you're bringing them in anyway

I know but it's strange why he refuses to answer my question.
I did however see a programme on TV where a deluded dog owner claimed their dog was vegan. So to test the dog two bowls of food were placed Infront of the dog. He went straight to the bowl with meat. Much to the embrassment of its owner.

Nekarsulm, a story; you might have seen I mentioned this on the apples thread recently.

I had arthritic pains in my fingers (I put it down to decades of playing music) over the last 12-18 months or so. Not enough to stop me playing but uncomfortable.

This year, after the bumper crop of apples, I've been juicing them, drinking some of the juice, freezing some, making jam.

Within a couple of days of starting to drink the juice, my hands went pain-free and have stayed that way. I drink a glass every morning, the equivalent of eating 6 or 7 apples. Maybe it should be "half-a-dozen apples a day keeps the doctor away". :)

I don't have an explanation for it but the juice has all the crud and crap in it and it's obviously not pasteurised or filtered. It's a precursor to apple cider vinegar I suppose, with the mother and father in it!

There doesn't seem to be any other cause of the pain going - it's too coincidental. What will happen in the long run I don't know. I'll find out when I run out of apples/juice. For now, I feel zingy.

So it's the opposite of your friend's experience of 'excess', if you know what I mean.

Thats a hypocritical comment considering you are using the made up derogratory word 'carnist'- which is frequently found in vegan commentary directed at anyone who is not a 'vegan' in context such as:

    bloodmouth carnist scum
    bloodwhore carnist
    Carnist murderer

    Etc etc

You must have a lot of people on your ignore list when people have to go to such lenghts to point out the issues with your use of made up words as insulting and derogratory language

It turns out bananas are many times higher in potassium than other fruit or veg, not that he had ever given it a thought either way.
Theyre popular with cyclists as they are pre-wrapped and you can throw the packaging into the hedge when finished!

Cider vinegar seens to have many uses. My late Mum swore it helped a lot with her migranes. (As did grapefruit)

Maybe I misunderstood too! I was only pointing out how your post implied that humans are not animals, which they quite clearly are.

This bit: "describe themselves that way in an attempt to distinguish themselves from animals". That's a kind of thing the religious say, they can't imagine that they're animals too, they think they're something special.

    No matter. Interesting chart, thanks.

As we are discussing contradictions - this is an interesting article titled "A Curious Case Of Vegan Moral Hypocrisy" which highlights some of the issues discussed on this thread.

Not dog but related species which are also Canidae

Personally I believe pushing human belief systems on pets and feeding them such a diet is completely wrong.

If someone chooses to be a vegan then either don't keep animals which eat meat or adopt something like a stick insect ...

i was actually pointing out that vegans are distinguishing themselves from animals by not using herbivore as their descriptor of choice

  • Registered Users Posts: 755 ✭✭✭davidjtaylor

Ganmo, perhaps it's to point out that more than a diet, veganism's a lifestyle? F'r instance, one could be a herbivore and buy leather shoes, so one is not vegan, if you see what I mean.

Well if you are easily amused, how about this?
18 pages of posts (on my phone anyway) and not one post demonstrating social contradiction on how we treat animals!
