Do yo u think FM is the second player that has the issue? I had heard a different name

MC is the second player AFAIK.
That's who I understand is also the other player who had 'issues'.

I knew somehow Martin Carney was behind this...

Theres a lot of talk of slander and lawsuits here, which to me sounds like absolute nonsense

As Happilylost said "not safe" could mean anything, literally anything. She's also not named anyone so I'm not sure who the slander is against, maybe the county board but thats a massive stretch

What has happened is she's been called out on apparent absolute nonsense but also f**ked up womens football in Mayo for a long time. For enough herself and FM will retire but very hard for the other 6 to come back while Leahy is there and its hard to expect him to step down for doing absolutely nothing wrong only to stand up to a cliche within the group

No winners here, Leahy will limp on next year so as not to be leaving the remainder of the group, they'll find it very hard to do well without 5-6 starters (which team wouldn't?)

    Its a ****ing mess

Exactly not safe could mean anything. So by saying that they left it open to all sorts of interpretations including some very sinister things that were doing the rounds. If the players had been specific they could have avoided letting the names of management be dragged through the absolute muck

I was trying to use the most basic and obviously most over the top example of how a player could explain why the word "unsafe" was used. It doesn't have to be that the manager was running the players through a maze of swords for the word to be used. The word unsafe means a lot of different things to a lot of different people.

With the thundering silence from the Carnacon players to the managers statement I feel it is more that highly credible to believe this had nothing to do with an unsafe environment, and everything to do with certain players egos.
In today`s environment for those players to use that terminology, with all its connotations, after an independent inquiry found no basis for their claim, is disgraceful and to continue to use it is nothing short of criminal imo.

Leahy and mgt should start demanding apologies now.

I don`t think we will see a sequel though.

We might. When this mess is all over, Australia may well be the only place she'll be able/let/willing to play a bit of footie. It will be a terrible shame & an ignominious end to a great career. But if the writing on the wall is true, she has only herself to blame.

I'd rather watch the last five minutes of last year's All-Ireland on repeat than watch that tripe.

Her actions are reprehensible. She's an absolute mess, an embarassment.

Umm, I think I would rather watch the Cora thing, but only because I was there and I still remember that oh so familiar feeling, it was also worse than the others as about 15 minutes to go we were in the lead...

It's amazing how quickly some people can turn on you . When you make a mistake. Even at the end of a long illustrious career. And when the facts are still fairly sketchy. Shame

The facts are not sketchy she made a cu1nt of her self cos she was told she was to be a sub end of story.
She though or her ego wasn’t having any of it and all the sh1te that has gone in since is her own doing.

The facts are sketchy because Cora and Carnacon have chosen the "it'll all come out soon" approach to this. Leahy was forced to reply by her choice of words in her interview. If there is a grievance of serious nature then it needs to be reported as such and not try and drag someone through the mud with airy fairy statements on a national broadcaster. We have one side of the story which leads to the way of thinking you've mentioned. They either do things properly or apologise.

The only sketchy "facts" here are the "personal and sensitive" welfare issues at first given for the reason for the walkout, and then Cora Staunton`s claims of an "unsafe environment" when an independent inquiry found no substance to the original claim.
    .

In today`s environment to make such unsubstantiated claims involving a female football team where males are involved in its management, are reckless in the extreme. Especially if one of those males, ii as a previous poster has said, a schoolteacher.
How long and illustrious a career anyone had does not in any way take away from how reckless and damaging to reputations claims like that are.
If anything such reckless unfounded claims by anyone with a long and illustrious career only adds to the damage to reputations.
Nowadays if a male acted in such a manner how long do you think his gig would last with RTE and not have a TV programme highlighting his career pulled from the schedule regardless of how long or illustrious it was?

By remaining silent now it will just prove that the management are correct. Why such silence from Cora and the others if they’re so sure of what they’re saying

More than likely a BS rumour. Just wondering if anyone else heard.

The instructions from the LGFA are that the only activities are the 7s competitions and the Ladies finals tomorrow.
All other matches and training to be cancelled.
If anyone gets injured in training they will not be covered by insurance.
    It's a countrywide instruction.

Do you know the reasoning behind that? Seems very odd.

It’s to encourage as many people attend the All Ireland Final as possible. When clubs affiliate they get free tickets to finals. They cancel insurance for the Sat and Sun.

The decent approach would be for the players that went to apologize for their actions and release a very simple statement to that effect.

They are burning themselves by not doing what anyone should do when you are wrong. The problem is people see what they have done, are not happy with their actions and the choice of words which are very damaging.

Its time for them to act like proper adults and people will have more respect for them. We all make mistakes but you have to recognize the mistake in order for people to forgive otherwise you get a hammering

I agree. I'm not trying to make excuses for anyone. I just think it's a shame how quick some posters on here are with the personal insults etc. I am pretty sure there is more to this story.

Unfortunately that innuendo was brought into the mix by the players who walked with their "personal and sensitive issues" statement at the outset, and yet when an independent inquiry found no case to answer was still added to by Cora Staunton`s "unsafe environment".

Peter Leahy for his own sake and that of his management, (and rightly so), had to address the issue after Staunton`s statement where he more or less made it clear it was nothing more sensitive or unsafe that a few players ego being hurt.
In light of his interview the silence from those players involved who threw around those innuendos is telling imho.

Enough of this bull**** from Staunton of the truth will out variety being left hanging over peoples good names and reputations.
Either put up or shut up and apologise.

Very bad way for Cora to end what has been an outstanding contribution to inter county football. Doubt there will ever be anyone who’s able to contribute the same length of service as a player as she has.
