I believe Billy Morgan and Mick O'Dwyer were there too. County Board are putting together the ultimate managerial supergroup in a desperate bid to finally land that All-Ireland...

Maybe that's why Kieran Donaghy, Paraic Joyce and Jimmy Keaveny were there?

    Probably 2010.

That was the "last time" for a lot of stuff with Mayo GAA.

Leahy was obviously trying his best not to say too much and not to go into specifics but he gave a good outline.

A couple of players didn't like the fact that they weren't getting picked and walked, with their clubmates following them. They've then cited 'safety and welfare issues' in order to drum up a little sympathy. It says it all that the rest of the team have backed the management. The team will be better off without them.

I have lost all respect for Cora Staunton at this stage.

She can go and F**K for herself.

Afraid its looking v much like that. And her county and club have suffered for it.

Yep. Very, very hard to see how her side can emerge from this with their reputations intact.

Even if some specific player welfare issues are highlighted (as opposed to all this vague pussyfooting around) it'll be hard to believe they are factual & not just conjured up out of thin air to save face.

If they were not reported to the manager, his management team, the co board, the liaison officer, the GAA/LGFA, or were an issue for the rest of the squad, how on earth can they be as real & serious as all their cloak & dagger bull$hit suggests?

From the outside you couldn't but fall on the side of the management in this. The podcast was very good and he came across as a very decent individual who is very professional in how he operates. And a very fair individual as well, he wasn't very bitter or anything to those who have caused him obvious hassle

Some players think they are better than others from what i can see and maybe feel they can take a few short cuts and still be guaranteed their place.
as well with Carnacon being such a successful and prominent club they probably feel they have a bit of added power

    Very good interview

Fair play to him for holding his silence until now, seems like a decent guy

Cora could finish up her career on a sour note here and leave a bit of a bad mark on what should be seen as a great career

That really does seem to be all that was in it. If there was any skeletons to come out of the closet Leahy would never have done that interview yesterday and invited them to tell their side of the story.

The response from the Carnacon side here will be very interesting. Either they continue with the player welfare allegations or they back down and apologise. If they dont respond at all it looks even worse. To quote Jimmy "The politics in Mayo football makes me sick" and hes not far wrong on that

From what I can gather/see, Cora's career with Mayo is now finished once and for all - there doesn't appear to be any way back from this. After all the service she gave and everything she did, it is a shame that her legacy and retirement (which was just around the corner anyway) will have this blot on it and that her Mayo days ended on this very sour note..........of what appears to be her own making. Watching the 2017 AI Final, it was obvious that she was past her peak and that she was more of a hindrance than a help to the team - everything had to go through her and she simply wasn't able for it anymore (although the feeling was there before that game). That's why the whole Oz career was a good way to end things for both sides, she really should have left it at that.

The Mayo management have played their cards very well (how often can you say that sentence about any team!) and now have effectively backed Carnacon into a corner. That whole "safety and player welfare issues" BS is the easiest thing in the world to day. Nowadays, you release some vague PC buzzword statement and leave allegations out there. Either put up or shut up!! Funny how the rest of the team don't have any and have backed the management 100% on this one rather than their teammates, which is a very unusual occurrence. Normally, it's the entire team v management.

At this point, the people that I would have some sympathy for are the current and future Carnacon players - while the ones that walked are sheep, they have probably grown up with the sense of entitlement that their senior clubmate has. However, I reckon that there are probably a couple who felt forced or pressured into walking with their clubmates. Those players are their club team mates (some of which will inevitably include future county players) have all been tarred with the same brush and, possibly, some of them will lose out on a career with their county.

So, in short, thanks for everything Cora but you should have called it quits a couple of years ago instead of letting your ego drag both your club and county into the mire. You have backed both yourself and your club into a corner on this one - you either need to come out with specific issues immediately (no more of this "the real story will come out someday" rubbish) which you can prove, or else both yourself and your club will have to offer a very embarrassing apology which will always be levelled against your name/character.

They could be for defamation if they can't back up their 'safety and welfare' claims.

There could, but I would hope that sense will prevail in all this.
On the weekend where 12 months ago we were in an AI final this has gone from bad to worse.
