Also most spirits are zero net carbs, having a vodka and Coke zero for example is only calories.

When I drink, I use gin and tonic now. I use Fever Tree for the tonic as it’s much better than the other stuff.

Have you looked at it at all? It's not the same at all. It's actually not a bad recommendation for the majority of people unlike the original food pyramid.

Fever tree is a good choice in terms of being a good tonic. But tonic is a terrible choice on keto.

It’s not the best, I know. But it’s a rare thing for me so I allow myself this treat now and again. It doesn’t knock me completely out of ketosis when I check my levels afterwards.
Personally, I don’t think I can do keto 100% all of the time but for the most part, I do and it seems to be working. My weight is always at a steady level now and I feel great most of the time now because of keto and IF.

It's a bit more than "not the best" imo.
There's more sugar in a bottle of tonic than a bottle of bulmers. Might as well have lemonade or coke as your mixer.
1 of any of the above won't kick you out.

Drink tonic if you really like the stuff, but at least go for the light stuff which half sugar.
    Soda would be best.

Use a slimline tonic that uses sweetener instead of sugar, has ~0 calories per drink.

Someone only suggested soda water to me last week. Think I’ll try it tonight for the Limerick Hurlers homecoming! Thanks for the suggestion.

If you want a drink and want to stay keto, vodka is best. Most spirits are OK. Some wines (iirc the dry whites are OK, but Google it, don't take my word for it). Beer and cider are off the list. Never mind the sugar, there are more carbs in a single bottle of lager than your daily 20g allowance.

Sugar free 7up is OK, but the sweeteners are suspect. Some sweeteners trick the body into thinking that ARE sugar and then your body produces insulin to absorb sugar that isnt there.

There's not need to check the ingredients for different types of sugar.
Just look at the g's of sugar per serve in the nutritional label.
Perfectly fine on keto to eat something with sugar as an ingredient if the content is low.

on day 4 of 5 of a "fat fast" which is low calorie also , I wouldn’t be up for anything like a water fast but this seems like a happy middle ground, basically a small bullet coffee at lunch and dinner is 2 avocados. Day 4 seems no different to Day 1 . Its based on a suggestion to have 2 avocados each day and a green smoothie, the suggestion was to do it bi-monthly. I don’t expect it to move mountains but would be curious to test my blood sugars on Sat to see if they have dropped any. My normal fasting reading is 5.9mml/l which is on the high side of normal, 5.5 is apparently bang in the middle of the range.

    ^^

finished now, tested my blood sugar and it was 5.6 mml/l lowest reading ive had without exercising first. shockingly dropped 5.6 kg since last Sat, obviously the majority is food and water. today will be protein day, had an omelette for breakfast and i have a hankering for a tuna salad for lunch. once every 2 months is doable and being at work helps where i'd be pretty busy anyway , also considering i was commuting by bike 26km per day i never felt lacking in energy.

Had a mixed week last week and ate some potato ( homegrown) and other carbs - back on track now -

Started today with scrambled ham and eggs
Had a stir-fry of mushrooms, asparagus, cashew nuts, kale and a little grated cheese for lunch.

Haven't weighed in for over two weeks.

    That's fab! Well done!!

I.F. goes very well with keto . I did my first 24 hour IF this week (am 3 months on keto) and it was grand. Could NOT have done it before. Used to get hangry and wolly headed after a few hours before keto. But now that I am fat-adapted its easy to go much longer. Only 2 meals a day now.

    Keto meals rule!!

Ha anyone tried frying pan pizza?
Med heat frying pan. Good layer of cheese. When melted & bubbling add tomato paste and toppings of your choice (I love pepperoni, chorizo, mushroom). Then light sprinkle of mozzarella to seal it. Its like a fried cheese sandwich, but without the bread.... Very filling. Ab fab!!

You would 100% fail. What are you meant to live on protein alone?

Thanks fail in what way though ? hunger get the better of you and you'd eat carbs ?

when l say l don't like the idea of eating fats l don't mind putting butter on top of steaks or eggs after they are cooked , would that work OK ?

a bit of googling one site says if you don't eat enough fat the body starts using muscle for energy instead of burning fat ,,that would obviously be a negative

Butter is perfect. You can also fry in avacado oil. Remember, its good fats you are after. Dont pick the low fat meat when shopping. You can also add cheese to your meals to up the fat content. If you are still low on fat intake, try a fat-bomb. We make it like a type of homemade "ice-cream" made from cream, cream-cheeese and flavouring (eg a few berries). Adding double cream to your coffee is also good way of upping your fat intake. Lastly, check out MCT oil. It can be added to coffee and all sorts.

That's really rare. You would want to be eating very badly for your body to start "eating" muscle. Just being low on eating fat doesnt mean there is no fat in your body for it to use as a source. Most of us have plenty of padding to loose before worrying about loosing muscle.

Hang in there.....there are always ways to go!

thanks for the reply's ,, l tried it briefly for about 2 weeks and had great success in weight loss ,, l struggled with eating coconut oil and feeling queasy in work l stopped it ,, l wasn't fully prepared IMO ,,if those no carb beers that the guy in Sydney posted links to were available here l reckon l'd have no problem going full time on the keto full time but social life aspect has to be taken into account .

Anyone use coconut flour - I used it to flour a homemade fishcake yesterday and then made some "bread" type stuff with coconut flour, sour cream, eggs, cream cheese today.

Problem is I think I may be allergic as both times after only having a small amount I got a terrible tummy ache? Anyone experience this?

You probably got stomach ache because you ate something made of coconut flour, sour cream, eggs and cream cheese
