I got it on amazon for a couple of euro but halfords do it for 7.50

I’ll drop in there tomorrow, want to sort it before the engine guard goes on

Use some Autosol with a rag and elbow grease = shiny!

Are those exhausts chrome plated do you know? It looks like it is half chrome half standard metal. I've used up most of my elbow grease this week I think with the harpic :pac:

What stops this going back to rusty in about 2 weeks though ?

    After all the effort?

Mines as bad as that, never bothered to clean it because it will rust straight away.

    Weekly polishing?

Didn’t think of what will happen down the line. I won’t be using it once the bad weather starts anyway. So I’m hoping that will help ease the issue.

For my money, this is something you do if the bike is garaged and not used often. If its used commuting or parked outside. Then its really a tough ask.

Not sure if they'll fit on the DL650 though?

    What's more important?
    Block the wind?
    Heat?
    Protect your levers?
    Looks?
    Price?
    All of the above?
    None of the above?
    Some of the above? :D

    Is that multiple choice? :pac:

Sure we’ll try all the above and see how much strain the piggy bank can take :o

    Should have added..
If all of the above, they don't exist. :p

I think there is a second hand pair of bark busters on eBay.
They may have a mark on them but they are good guards and he maybe open to offer.

I must check them out again.

You can get Polisport ones for €30-€40 but they'll only keep a bit of wind off.
    I have them

Best check on a DL650 forum buddy as you'll find many handgurads will prevent you from going full lock on the bars. Heated grips are a better investment if you don't have them already.

On the down pipe, in my experience with an SV, that down pipe will be back to a nice orange hue again in a few weeks. But its worth doing as it really ages a bike in my opinion. Finish it off with some autosol, you've done the hard bit already. Get a fenda extenda.

I was reading the thread, tbh I wouldn't bother my arse polishing pipes.

I've tried it a few times, you can get a bit of a shine up but it never lasts. Not worth the effort esp if the lad is putting engine bars and bash plate on the bike.

Depends on the bike really, and in my opinion of course.

If you've got a bike with nice big, long pipes like a cruiser then it's well worth it. Probably less so on a bike with short or more hidden pipes.

Trying to polish pipes in the current weather is not easy. Got the autosol yesterday with the intention of polishing today and it bloody rains

Fitted some radiator guards and a Biketrac tracker to my bike over the last week. Very happy with the Biketrac , some piece of kit and works great out of the box.

Wheeled the bike out of the garage today to go for a spin and decided to check the spokes because of what I was reading about new BMW GS's having problems with them. I was pretty annoyed to find 3 or 4 very loose spokes on the back wheel. It's more or less grounded me until I get it sorted under warranty.

Is it just me, or are there frequent problems with the GS every few years?

Yes, yes there is. Last years debacle was the fork stanchion issue causing the tops of the forks to collapse.

This year its a bad batch of wheels. There's a lot of them being replaced , I'm surprised there was no recall yet.

I vaguely remember there being an issue with the ABS on certain bikes too? From 2007 or 2009. Not positive but I vaguely remember them not being fixed under warranty.

It's a damn shame, because they're great bikes but stuff like this really gives people ammunition against them.

I believe so, back in the early 2000's. Might be the reason you see the older twin cam models with the ABS pulled off them.

Seemingly this latest kerfuffle is down to having the wheels manufactured by two different companies.

Well here's hoping they get this sorted out for you, especially after the recent trouble you had.

such a fantastic machine, But the price of one versus the issues they have. its unforgivable. They should be bullet proof at that money tbh.

I'd have thought so too. I have the barrel package GS Adventure, so I have a lot of money in it. Far too much at this stage. :o

I may go back to a reliable Harley next year :pac:

When I bought my GS from JD's (2010 twin cam) the sales man told me "now you know this one hasn't got ABS?"... "EXCELLENT" says I :D

On a side now, I was thinking about you.. The young lad who sold you your bike is gone from JD's, I fvcking KNEW you'd break him :pac::pac:
