Just out on National radio that he’s gone . Only in mayo would this happen . The only commonality over all the managerial messes since Moran is the county board .

    Which station?

Only in Mayo would what happen? And who or what is Moran??

I deleted my original post but see it's still being quoted, though once deleted it would disappear completely?

What do you mean by support and I am not having a go here? Did they have a go at him about the success of the year and the failings to proceed in the championship? Some could see this as not giving support but I would think this is reasonable to ask to get his opinion but if they lambasted him and tried to push a blame game on him, then I would agree that they are not giving him support and want him out. You can read this many ways.

Anyway, I can't understand why they don't want him unless they have someone superior (in their eyes) lined up.

Not sure tbh. What i heard was nobody spoke in favour of him, what the context was i dont know

Didn't Connolly come out a few weeks ago and say something along the lines that new players needed to be blooded. No county board member should be talking about team selection, that's nowhere near their remit.

Then you have the backroom staff being let go.

If they are lining up someone else then they must have an impressive CV. Wouldn't be surprised if it was Pat Homes Version.3.

I agree that Connolly shouldn't have said that but it was so obvious that I can see why it came out, either way that should be for a discussing in a quite room and not in the media.

I was under the impression the back room team wanted to go rather than been let go.

If they're trying to push him out the door then you'd like to think they have something lined up. We'll see!

From what I hear Rochford is still manager.

    Can someone prove otherwise ?

Nothing on the main stations apart from what was reported by Mid-West earlier. Would be crazy to state that if he was going. They could easily have deferred any statement for a few hours.

Although saying that, it is strange that they issued a statement because of social media speculation.

    That pollock is getting smellier.

In fairness with all the sh1t been posted online they had to issue a statement to stop this nonsense.

I would say that Rochford probably knew for a while that his back room team were going and the fact that it was taking him a while to get a new one in place could make the CB a bit uneasy. Maybe he though he had loads of time but they may want this sorted hence the deadline. His announcement of Ford should have put an end to all this but someone is acting the clown and feeding this.

Sorry I was at the barbers with my little fella so I am not sure what station . So right now I’m confused . Both of us heard it though, must have been incorrect , either on our side or the radio.

Thought I was going senile earlier . Thankfully my son heard it also . So sorry for all genuine mayo supporters here ( like myself ) .
I really thought a year to refocus would have us back on track .
Now we have a new management and backroom staff who will be under the scrutiny from the start .

    Statement from Stephen Rochford

After a meeting of the Mayo GAA Board's Executive Committee last night, held to discuss the management team I had assembled to manage Mayo senior men' s team in 2019,the board issued a statement saying they wished to meet with the management team and me about our structures and plans.

It was apparent from what transpired at that meeting that the desired level of support for me as manager was not forthcoming from the Executive Committee. This disappoints me greatly.Accordingly,I see no value in meeting with the officers of the board and I am resigning my position as Mayo manager.I thank all those who supported me during the past three years, two of which saw Mayo come so close to winning the All Ireland title.

Like all Mayo people,I enjoyed the good days when the team won and suffered the disappointments when results did'nt go our way.It was a great privilege to manage the Mayo team.

The 2018 season was a disappointing one for all involved, and for our supporters. However,I had every confidence that our new backroom team had the capacity to build on the progress of previous years and drive the team on in 2019.

In particular,I thank the players, backroom team, spouses and partners, our team sponsors Intersport Elvery's,county board, the clubs and the Mayo supporters worldwide who turned out in huge numbers and who lent financial backing to the team.A special word of thanks to my wife ,Laura, and our children, and both families, for their support and forbearance at all times.

I wish all who wear the Mayo jersey in 2019 and beyond every success and I look forward to supporting the footballing fortunes of the county.
