I don't recall Dublin being at their best in that 2013 final. I think people have short memories of Horan on the sideline on the big days tbh.

At least Rochford tried things even if they didn’t all work

Agreed, the line was a fault for it at least not being a draw.

On that though. Did he order Higgins to stay marking an injured O'Gara?

Would other mayo players stay marking an injured man, there's 15 men on the field too. They more than anyone knew Cooper, O'Carroll and O'Gara were bunched.

Not all his fault. He put steel into the mayo team and handled himself (and McGuinness) fairly well imo

Did someone need to tell Higgins
" Listen this is the final, your man can't run, push up and attack"

TBH I think it's unfair on Horan, yes it could have been pointed out, but the players should know too.

Hindsight is a great thing. It's very easy to sit behind a computer and analyse something after the fact. I think he did a pretty good job. If Higgins had pushed up and Dublin scored a goal you would slate him for pushing Higgins forward, you can't win.

So unprofessional, disappointing and downright cruel. What a pointless rollercoaster Stephen and his family have been on for the last few months...

Wishing them.all the best and thanks for some of the best days following the mayo team.

I wouldn't be harsh on Horan, he brought us on, no doubt about that.

But I do think Rochford upped it another level, it's easy to forget the strokes he pulled. He was a unique manager and an ideal manager for Mayo imo... he put his team out to play the Mayo way but with a little bit of a tactical twist when needed. Some massive calls over his relatively short tenure, on a different level to Horan imo. Horan may have evolved too with time.

Big bird at full back vs Tipp. Dillon sweeper vs Tyrone. Aidan full back vs Kerry. McLoughlin sweeper when we badly needed a sweeper. I still think Hennelly was a decent change, just one that didn't work out. Draw with the Rossies, come back the next time and hammer them. Draw with Kerry and come back and beat them well. Sign of a good manager in my book. Signs that he had the courage to back himself when he stuck with Aidan at FB. Plenty of calls like that, it shows a cuteness that is hard to find in a manager.

Plus he got the best out of players like Andy and Doc. Still can't figure out what he saw in Caff though.

Hearing stories that the players wanted Rochford out. Also that the smart money is on Horan taking over.

If its true then its time to clear the desks and if that means a few years in the wilderness, so be it. How long can this carry-on be tolerated; at what point do they look in the mirror and wonder whether some of them have ticked every box they could have? It especially annoys me given that the ones so often linked with this craic are largely the ones who have underperformed since the Connelly and Holmes debacle

I heard “the egos “ are actually on the county board

County Board met with the players last week and there were some dissenting voices to Rochford being retained as manager.

2014 was the one that got away for Horan.

Failed to close out the drawn semi final on the field and completely shafted by Croke Park and an incompetent referee for the replay.

And as Kieran Donaghy described in his autobiography completely failing to learn from the reason they didn't close out the first game

Forgot to throw in Aidan and Cillian's collision.:)

Still had more than enough chances to win the replay if we were good enough.

Playing Ger Caff at full back for the replay was a monumental error.

Yea Rochford had that ability to adapt the team and the game plan for who they were facing, something Horan did not seem that good at.

The mantra with Horan's regime seems to be "this is just game x", where every game was just another game and they would play the way they always played.

That's what I always wondered why people seemed to want Rochford out

I wouldn't jump to criticise someone who knows what's 100% best for his players and sticks to it, it creates certainty.
Rochford always seemed to be looking for his next chance to show what a tactical genius he was.

Not necessarily criticizing Horan, just pointing out the difference between him and Rochford

And I agree with what you are saying about looking for the next chance to show what a tactical genius he was.

It was mentioned here a few years back that that may work in the world of Galway senior club football, but not at All Ireland county level.

Brady said the complete opposite on Off the ball tonight. He said the players were fully behind Rochford.

So you've no source to back it up?

According to Brady he said the majority of the players were behind Rochford, but as in any large group there were some dissenting voices.

That was Colm Keys speculating that and he had no inside knowledge.

No surprise that a national journalist would go straight to the "it was the players what do it" angle.

What does Bernard have to say I wonder.
