Why the deflection? The buck stops with the church on this one. The fact that abuse was happening worldwide shows that.

Yes the church are responsible, but the state are the ones responsible for letting them away with perverting the course of justice in Ireland and covering up criminal bishops activity. The state is responsible for bringing criminals to justice and administering the criminal justice system and putting the Irish bishops responsible in prison. They have not even arrested a single criminal Irish bishop for questioning, never mind convict them.

Why do you not want them brought to justice ?

Woefully misjudged visit, I really wonder what the end game of it was? A call to arms for the ever shrinking ultra conservative religious element of Irish society?

The visit might be a success yet but it was a terrible idea to drive through the streets of Dublin in the pope mobile. I don't see any articles about the tiny turnout on the streets but the film footage does not lie

I dont think there will be any hiding the fact a large proportion of "pilgrims" at tomorrows mass will have come from abroad either.

Are you honestly trying to defend an organisation that has covered up child sex abuse, needless family separation, slave labour amongst other things that contravene the charter of human rights?

Seriously? The whatabouttery is poor and then the insults to try and deflect instead of having an actual coherent response makes me think you're on the wind up or a complete arsehole.

Where have i defended the church?
Im pointing out how the protesters are stupid

If nobody understands the point you're trying to make, it's fairly likely the problem isn't with them.

In this case sadly it seems to be the case it is them though

When I see young people (20+) worshiping the pope I cant help but wonder how devout/controlling the parents must be. I mean given all the freely available information on the Roman organisation, it is an extremely hard sell or intense brainwashing to have young people signing up as active members.

Any kids I know that were brought up like that backlashed against it twice as hard when they matured but yeah 20+ might be the point of no return.

One can be religious without continuing to validate an institution as morally reprehensible as the Catholic Church, yet so many still do and this is more than open to challenge.

No. If you are religious & you lead by Christian example, few would say that. But this is total hypocrisy

Where exactly did I say that? Before you reel off another very tired apology for church crimes of "paedophilia exists in all professions with children/sections of society", there is absolutely no organisation or industry that even comes close to the continued depravities of the Catholic Church.

Ah, the classic strawman argument. What were you saying previously about ignorance?

I think that's down to the power the church had in the country until very recently though. I dont disagree with your point in general.

Edit: I do want them brought to justice, I just took your post as one of the ones deflecting attention away from the church but maybe I picked you up wrong.

    You did.

I'm Glad you want justice for the victims, so do I

And how to we bring corrupt Irish Bishops to justice and have them trialed and sentenced for perverting the course of justice when the CURRENT state authorities and politicians won't even take in a single Irish Bishop past or present for questioning, never mind issue a search warrant of their offices, never mind charge, trial and convict them ?

How else do we get these criminals in prison if the state won't do their job TODAY ?

Why is the Irish media not asking these questions of our current Irish authorities while the Irish church management still gets away scott free ?

Excellent speech from Leo. Fair play to him.

yeah he's another one fond of words and no actions.
Under his watch, not a single criminal Irish bishop / former bishop has been questioned for perverting the course of justice, and prosecuted for their crimes by the state. And therefore nothing preventing them from doing it again.

I'm a believer that if you want respect then you need to earn it. However by referring to Frank as Holy Father, Leo is not offending those who look up to Frank. It's a political title effectively.

Only 82,000 are allowed in to Croke Park for health and safety reasons.

A good chunk of this number was on the pitch.

That is the reason for empty seats in the stands.

Are you sure that people protesting didn't order tickets & deliberately didn't turn up?

My friends Ex & her mate have over 100 tickets for tomorrow's mass & will be binning them in protest. Another guy online claims to have 1000 tickets for tomorrow
