Saw two tossers leaving my estate this morning for work with employee I.D lanyards around their necks.

Ive worked in roles that required employee I.D's and I would be mortified to wear them around in public.

I notice that a lot of people wear their work ID in public, on buses, trains etc. what's the reason for it, is it to give two fingers to the unfortunate unemployed or maybe they're saying 'look at the lovely job that I have' f**k you'

I've seen these people, thay also have big badges with "I work for a Living do you?" on them, bastards.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Unemployed can have a lie on so don't worry.

Truly the things that annoy people are amazing along with the over thinking of what other people are doing.

Ah sure the unemployed can wear public service cards if they want to give 2 fingers to people who are out working to pay tax to pay them every week......

Seriously some people just forget to take them off, some people are proud of where they work. There's no ulterior motive....

how is this an issue?? don't wear/need one but cant say i ever noticed them before....

When I had to wear I generally left it on until I got home.
Mainly because if I lost it was a pain to get another one.
I'm also a guy so I didn't have a handbag to put it in and my pockets were generally full.

Ever see anyone wearing leap cards around their neck? No.

I regularly see people with their leap card on a lanyard.

Haven't had work id myself for nearly 20 years, but often walked home with it around my neck. If I stopped off for a quick g&t en route, lanyard & id went in the handbag.

I refuse to wear it in work even and just leave it in my pocket for swiping through doors can’t stand having it around my neck or hanging from a clip on my waist etc.

    Couldn't agree more.

Yep, they're definitely doing to make people feel bad. No other explanation. Personally, I walk briskly to make old people feel bad about themselves.

And I'm fat on purpose just to make skinny people feel bad, especially those wasting away through illness.

Same here, I just keep it in my pocket as I feel like a m*ngo wearing it. I remember working in the Eir building and security would go mad if they seen you not wearing it

I worked somewhere before and you weren't allowed pockets!

    I don't know what a lanyard is.

If it's work kit why is it worn outside work? And it IS disrespectful to those who are not currently in work.

I am just glad that I work in such a small close knit business that we do not have IDs for the office. I actually look at people with IDs and feel sorry for them

    Yes!

This was a thing in my gig before last: work ID was the same size and a few people kept their leap card in the work id holder. Makes sense if you only use Leap for work.

Yea. In contrast to all those non badge wearing welfare spongers proudly walking around without a badge to flaunt the fact that they don't have to work for a living.

None of my colleagues wear theirs in public. It's considered the badge of shame.

They do wear a uniform though.

    Grey tracksuits.

Taking that to it's logical conclusion you get this.

How DARE you walk around in public with your fingers that are used to clock you in at work, this is offensive to unemployed people!

The unfortunate unemployed shouldn't be allowed on buses during rush hour to get 'triggered' by working people's ID ...rush hour transport reserved for the working commuter classes :)

    They're just jealous!

Lanyards have a pretty daring past. They were first used by French soldiers and pirates in the early 1500’s as a means to keep their weapons close at hand when climbing the rigging of their ships or engaging in combat.
