I notice that a lot of people wear their work ID in public, on buses, trains etc. what's the reason for it, is it to give two fingers to the unfortunate unemployed or maybe they're saying 'look at the lovely job that I have' f**k you'

They need to wear it at all times in work and probably forget to take it off.

It's just there all day because it has to be and they get to the point where they don't notice it any more. They just forget to take it off or leave it on until at home, so as not to misplace it.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Yep, they're definitely doing to make people feel bad. No other explanation. Personally, I walk briskly to make old people feel bad about themselves.

It's to fend off the dole scroungers in case they catch a job by accident.

In many workplaces, they act as access fobs and timeclock fobs.

It's easy to forget that you're wearing them.

They become like a wallet, watch or mobile phone. An important piece of equipment, where it's painful to leave them on your desk.

I wear mine in public until I can take it off and put it on the sideboard (same place every evening) til I put it on next day. Otherwise I lose it.

The most idiotic thing ever, it's like here's the key to the offices of X company, in you go if you take this or find this and you can fleece the place.

Absolutely , I myself would rob Amanda from accounts chair and probably a load of butter from the canteen should I find a random card laying on the street.

    Then it's grand :D

I actually think putting the company name on them risks the safety of every member of staff working in the place, it's like finding a house key on the street with the address attached to it.

Part of the work kit. No disrespect to those who are not currently in work. GET OVER YOURSELF

Why do people always use x from accounts in their examples- there are other departments!!!

Last 4 places I worked with such ID's there is no check whatsoever once you had the ID, the larger the company the easier it would be as little chance of a new face being recognised.

I work/worked in more secure places then. Used to it now.

It's a piece of credit card sized plastic that says who you are and where you work.

    Farmers tag their sheep also.

Is there money from Europe in it so??? Lads wear these tags, we will get a few euros

Any time I take it off during the day, which is usually if I go out for some form of physical exertion, I invariably find myself standing at doors outside my office...knocking waiting for someone to walk by and let me in cos I've left it down somewhere.

So I wear it cos of that and to fit in with all the cool office-based folk as well as mocking the unemployed.

But mostly to mock the unemployed for not having a piece of plastic with an awful mugshot on it.

If it's work kit why is it worn outside work? And it IS disrespectful to those who are not currently in work.

I usually just keep it on all day, including leaving the office, because it doubles as a entry swipe to the office and I'll either leave the office without it or lose it.

The thought that it might annoy the student outrage sector is an unexpected bonus that hadn't occurred to me. I might start wearing two now.

By that logic we should all be wearing grubby tracksuits instead of suits.

Would you prefer if they dressed like sweaty tramps as well? So those not currently in work might feel better?

Are you saying people who are not currently employed are sweaty tramps?

I pretty much always take mine off and put it in my bag when I leave work. My name and the company logo are pretty visible and tbh I feel like a bit of a tool walking around with it on. Also find it annoying as it knocks off stuff. So yeah not very fond of the work ID myself!

I'd be embarrassed to wear mine in public. Soon I walk out the door of work off it comes. It's like a millstone around my neck!!

Loads of posters have explained why? They forget they are wearing it because they are so used to it and /or they dont want to lose it.
And it IS NOT distespectful to those not currently in work.

I think the OP must be a water protester/people before profit member/CIE union rep or similar.

Think of the patronising disrespect of paying income tax to pay their dole. The reasons to take offence just grow and grow.

It wasn't a comparison. I asked if it would make them feel better.

I have a spare badge if you want.
