The section at Camp is more or less complete but there seems to be a lot left to do on the embankment section of the road at Ballynasare. Difficult to see clearly but I'd be surprised (and delighted) is it's open for e.g. the August Bank holiday weekend. Safety barriers are essential and there isn't even a sign of one yet - I presume they'd be substantial given the drop on either side of the road. Temporary lights at Lispole school these days too but no big delays.

I was actually out this road earlier today.
I agree with Lottpaul, there is still a massive amount of work left to do.
Not only barriers, but footpaths and embankments are also a complete mess yet.
Even the finished section at Camp is poorly finished, the embankments weren't sowed with grass seed resulting in weeds and stones. On a plus, the road itself is obviously a big improvement.

I was out there today also, certainly westbound the embankment alignment looks more or less compete, still requires tarmacadam but the road and footpaths are clearly seen. There is a lot of work to be done with the tie in up the hill but that will likely be left til last so traffic can be sent along the new alignment as the old one is closed off. It seems as though west of Kate's Cross will be traffic calmed as part of Lispole village.

The Camp section looks unfinished but then again the hard work is done and id imagine the contractors have moved most of the manpower back to the Lispole section to get that done. Once both roads are open to traffic the last finishing touches will be complete.

Hopefully the two next sections are tendered soon and might start this time next year or so.

Work progressing well on the Lispole section. Traffic control at times over the past few days. All surfaces near the school look nearly complete. Not so good past Garrynadur as it drops down to the new embankment but very good again past Ballynasare. Shouldn't take too long to do the tie ins. The cycle paths still have a bit to go on the Lispole end but all seems on track for an early August completion.

Really taking its final shape now, 2 sets of signals in place today as tarmac was going down on where the current temporary road meets the new N86 on the hill up towards Garrynadur. Most of the tarmac complete on the Lispole side, with the embankment section yet to be tarmaced and that's it. Signage poles up along the route also.

The Camp section is pretty much complete now bar cosmetic stuff. It's a pity they didn't continue the realignment along the cutting to meet the bridge head on at the western end instead of the current loop around. This will be corrected in the N86 Ballygarret-Doonore South which is to start next alongside N86 Ballynasare-Annascaul (which will remove the last 3 hairpins between Annascaul and Lispole.

I was amazed they didnt include it the current scheme.

Looking great now, passed through Lispole last night and the new road hasnt opened yet but I'd say its very close to being opened.

Came out from Tralee at midday and traffic to Dingle was using the new flyover, just the one side open

    🧐IMHO, God wants us all to ENJOY many,many ice-creams , 🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦

Raidio na G announced this morning that the entire new section from Lispole to Ballynasare is now open.

Closed again this evening, traffic being sent via old N86 and the temporary slip road.

Making good progress there at Lispole. thought they would have made it straighter considering the extra space they had after Kate's shop heading in the dingle direction, but the bend will probably slow traffic down.

Signage up in the area now confirms that the speed limit from near the top of the embankment at O'Sullivan's Pub as far as Lispole will be 60km/h. Hence the twistier alignment and the kerbing at the side of the road as opposed to segregated cyclepaths.

This is pretty much complete now but there must still be work required on the Ballynasare embankment as it was closed this evening. Lots of tidying up going on still, but there can't be much more than 1/2 weeks work left. It really did all come together quite quickly at the end.

There appears to be work ongoing on an embankment at the eastern end beyond where the new road starts. They could be starting some preliminary work early on the next part which will be between Ballynasare and Annascaul. When this is done the road from Annascaul-Lispole will be quite different to before when the 4 hairpin bends are gone.

While the other hairpin bends will likely be attenuated, they're not going to be removed completely.

I'm talking about the 3 between Lispole and Annascaul just for clarity, the middle one is a fairly tame bend but still a bad bend

The plan seems to be to almost remove them, there will still be a bend but it'll likely be suitable for 100km/h running or close to it. It will significantly improve that stretch of road which is painful to drive

The road heading towards lispole doesnt look to be complete as there is some work going on with the embankment. The majority of the works looks to be done though and its a massive improvement. On my way home last night from Dingle, I nearly missed the sharp turn on to the old road and nearly went through the cones onto the new road, it comes on you quite quickly and is sharp.

Installing cats eyes/studs on the embankment today - in the lashing rain - while some minor landscaping/barrier work was being carried out at the same time. Traffic management in place. We were heading west after an early morning trip to Tralee and there was a line of 5 cars/buses/camper vans ahead of us. We were held for 2 minutes at most. When we got to the pub at Garry we counted a line of 60+ cars etc held at the stop sign. Crazy! The main cause was definitely 2 unrelated jobs being done at the same time. Bad co-ordination, but they may have deadlines.
That said, the barriers are installed and pretty solid looking, and all should be open for the Bank Holiday weekend.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear enough - it was guys holding signs - but there were 3 guys at least holding signs. One seemed to be with the cats eyes truck and when we came across them they were in the middle of the barrier guys section. And I don't know if there was much communication between them - :)

New road now open I've been reliably informed.

Used it today - nice bit of work BUT what's with the continuous white line? There is adequate sight line to overtake & no junction on the embankment!

Great to see this finally open - they have made a fantastic job of it. I was expecting it to be more steep but it really is a great engineering job on what was a shocking stretch of national road.

Roll on the next 2 sections

Completely agree marno! It's a fantastic job they did on it.

Tender issued for resurfacing of the stretch west of Camp that's an embarrassment at the minute

    https://irl.eu-supply.com/app/rfq/publicpurchase.asp?PID=136041

Not sure what this means for the planned realignment along here. Perhaps the resurfacing can't wait.

Thank the lord - that stretch is brutal, have to slow down to about 40-50 km/h as its terrible bad.

New N86 alignment at Banogue now live on Google Maps. As you can see it's quite an improvement

The official opening of the 2 upgraded sections of the N86 will take place next Tuesday - according to Raidio Na G - at 12.30pm

Present will be Minister Brendan Griffin, councillor Norma Foley - chair Kerry County Council and other local councillors etc etc. It sounds as if there are 2 separate events - there's definitely a stone wrapped in plastic just outside O'Sullivans bar in Garry - but I'm not sure if there's one over in Camp.

The ceremony has been postponed before but presume it'll go ahead this time - and won't require the closing of the road itself I hope.

I don't see any road changes at Camp? Where is it exactly?

It's just west of Camp, the road was widened there but it follows the existing alignment pretty much +-50 metres or so
