Id imagine most of the clubs who voted for this are the lower end of the table,
Surely the big clubs knew with the world cup they'd have limited time to get top class players in  ?
What was Jose on about when he said its been a bad pre-season already or is it taken out of context by the media ?

Load of players missing from the world cup, and Sanchez had the Visa issues. Means that the majority of the first team won't get a pre-season this year.

Well United voted against it alright as one of the 4/5 dissenting clubs but it wasn't a big/small split iirc. Also I think Jose was in favour of the window being shortened.

In any event, it was decided nearly a year ago so it can't be used as an excuse if the squad is left short.

I posted up who voted against it a couple of weeks ago, majority of bigger clubs voted for it apart from city and United

I honestly can't see us signing any key players in the remaining weeks.

Meanwhile Chelsea signing Rugani for £44m. A center back that would be a starter for us if we signed him.

    Yup.

    Its not looking pretty, imo.

I can see a lot of clubs starting to panic soon. The new window is such a stupid idea - and I can see european teams taking advantage. They can somewhat afford to drag sales out as they will still be able to sell to Spain, Germany, Italy, France etc after the English window closes - so the closer we get to August 9th the harder they are going to squeeze.

Then once we hit august 10th, we could see some real issues crop up if a big Eurpoean side decided they want to test the waters on a star player in England. Sure, the club may not want to sell and may not sell - but I can see a lot of disruption caused by speculation occuring, which was one of the reasons for the new window, to stop that.

When the PL knew europe weren't going to copy them, they should have sunk the idea then and there. Changing the window so dramatically, in isolation, was stupid.

I actually thought the new rules were being brought in to help English teams keep hold of their players once the league gets underway. Nope, turns out to be nothing like that. Foreign clubs can still come in and try to poach an English player, leaving the English team no hope of getting a replacement.

    #WellDoneFellAini.

Sell Jones and I'll be happy out.

Jones is currently probably the 2nd best CB at the club so that would be silly.

Why do you think that ?
A lot can happen in the 3 weeks left .

I'd be shocked and pissed off if no more transfers happened ,the current squad isn't good enough for a title shot and that has to be obvious to all at the club.

Obviously hope I'm wrong. I don't know why it's just a feeling I have. Title challenge seems so far away.

We need a CB, LB, RB, RW in that order.

RW isnt as bad as we think if we do it right. I'd be happy enough with Lingard, Chong, Rashford and Pereira to be fighting to play RW as I don't think someone like Bale is available.

RB, when Valencia gets the ball I stop watching, there's no point. I don't know what the plan is for Dalot or TFM.

LB then, Young is a good backup, Shaw is a good backup, neither should be first choice. Of course Shaw has the potential, and I hope he comes good but he is running out of chances.

CB, Smalling, Rojo, Jones are too unreliable and are liabilities. VAR will be the death of Smalling. Bailly is also injury prone but is great when he plays. Id probably keeps Jones out of the 3 liabilities listed.

Need to sort out our defence once and for all. We have too much wrong to get sorted in 3 weeks.

Its a feeling I had 6 weeks ago. There is nothing new under the sun and generally fans have a sense of where things stand even if they don't know all the details. My sense now is that the club is way, way off where it needs to be with regards to transfers and that chances of all the problem areas being addressed in time are very slim indeed.

And this is a problem. I'm on record as saying Jose will probably (and unfortunately) be gone by the end of this season. Going into the new season without 4/5 new senior players, still relying on the tried and already failed, that just solidifies that belief.

He didn't say that. He said role Pogba played for France isn't enough for ManUtd and it's a very valid point.

The effort he put in for France should be the bare minimum though.

There is no point the story used to be that pogba wasn't ment to be a defensive player and Jose was restricting hi m too much and now the problem is "after he puts in some if the best defensive work horse displays you will see in a while" jose is asking him to do too much.

Imagine Keane or Gerard or Viera or any of the top midfielders been asked too do to much!!! Pogba has all the tools in his locker to be one of the best midfielders in the game he just needs to keep the mind focused.

Given Woody's love of massive name signings, I have to believe the delay is cause there's a big name in the offing. Right? :P

Or he wants a big name he can't get and wastes a summer trying.

I felt we'd gotten over that issue in recent times tbh. :o

I think Utd are done with sackings. Jose will be there as long as he wants, barring a catastrophe.

If Jose doesn't get backed in the transfer window, he'll walk sooner rather than latter. If he doesn't get backed, we'll probably struggle for a good enough league position anyway.

They threw massive money at Sanchez who hasn't done a tap, I wonder is the club saying make do and improve what you got before any more big money is spent. Would be foolish though.

I reckon the big English clubs are powerful enough to withstand any advances of the big clubs in Europe especially if they are powerless to get in a replacement. If the August 9th is the deadline you can be sure it will be the big clubs in Europe's deadline too unless they want to get rid of any fodder

I feel we'd have gotten briefs saying as such then. Woody would have leaked that quicker in the summer so as to taper expectations.

As weird as it sounds, the utter silence from the club in that way is whats keeping me somewhat optamistic....

This.. 3 solid players.. Although id love us to sign a megastar like Bale but i feel willian would imprive us regardless

I presume you think adding those 3 would mean we beat City to the title. Otherwise we shouldn't be satisfied. Giving them a run for their money isn't good enough either.

Barca after him too apparently, though rumours are the price tag is absurdly high. €80m was what I saw :/

Nothing we do could make that certain. City's points talky last season was unheard of and if they repeat that this season they'll be champs.

Getting a side together that can look to keep pace with what city did last season is the best we could reasonably hope for, imo. If City match last season and we run then close then yep, I reckon we should consider that a good campaign that falls short of perfection.

As things stand the current squad will fall further behind City, imo, and drop below Liverpool. Will be tough to stay ahead of the other top sides too - it will be close fir that 4th spot.... But if that's our aim then I'll be struggling to give a crap about the club.

As things stand it doesn't look like United want to compete for top honours, they just want to maintain CL participation. If our goal isn't to be the best then what's the point at all?

Does this summer indicate United are looking to step up from last season? I can't see an argument for it.

I'll give them till the end of the window before making that call, cause I'm hoping the delay is because the level of player we want isn't easy to get.

I think, for instance, we could have gotten everyone of Arsenal's incoming players had we wanted. I think we could get transfers for transfers sakes done. As examples of players we were linked with and could have gotten, but have moved to smaller teams.....Seri, Malcom, Talisca. Linked to all, but all ending up at significantly smaller teams than us.

I'm hoping that we'll see proper movements by the end of the window, and hoping the wait will prove worth it long term.

If we're still twiddling thumbs in three weeks though, then *shrug*
